IF he had fixated on Kaylee and had built up a fantasized vision of her (a potential romantic interest whom he couldn't have), finding her in bed with Maddy might have really set him off and could have caused the more violent attack on Kaylee. He might have mistakenly assumed that they were in bed together for sexual reasons rather than as best friends. To be rejected (in his imagination) as a man would be one thing; to be rejected for a woman could have sent him over the edge. I agree with Dr. John that Xana and Ethan were "in the way" on his mission to go upstairs to target Kaylee. I do have one question about that, however. How would he have known that Kaylee was going to be there that night without talking to someone or over-hearing a conversation? She had left and had briefly returned to show her car to her friends.
