John you often bring literature into your analysis, In the case of Luigi I see (possibly) the song "John Brown's Body," Why? Because Brown's violent and ethically questionable acts had a role in the ending of slavery. John Brown was a hot mess! I visited Harper's Ferry last year, and it still haunts me.Yes Luigi committed murder--YES. However that doesn't prevent the murder from being useful. Unfortunately violence does sometimes "work." I also sang "Glory" this year from the movie "Selma." We need a MLK for insurace and health care.

I didn't even notice John said that that's so funny 😂 but it might be do to my profession as a social worker; it's just normal to think ahead like that and to see the next step for a person who offends. I know that Sara Boone probably will stay in jail for the rest of her life, but still. My mind works like Dr. Johns I think. And also, in Denmark (Europe) Sara would have gotten 7-8 years in prison and we're used to thinking about recidivism with all offenders. We have very few people who stays in prison for life. (Also, sorry, english isn't my first language 😬)

I have a relative with a savior complex, but as far as I can tell, my relative is nothing like SB. I’m sure there are different reasons for the development of a savior complex, and the one(s) I know are definitely not addicts. One seems to be completely silent about it, but anyone looking at their relationship would think that’s the only reason they would be together. The other seems to use it for conversation fodder and it appears needs to feel like the most functional person in the room. I would like to know what Dr. J would/could say about SB’s possible adverse childhood experiences.

ETA Please please please watch the rebuttal, especially the end of day 5 and beginning of day 6. There are more videos of Sarah’s sadism. And when Jorge would leave her she would send him pictures of his birth certificate being torn up to get him to come back, and would then call the police when he showed up. I don’t think this was just a dysfunctional relationship with two abusive people. Jorge has no criminal history before Sarah and no claims of physical abuse from past partners. Sarah did! // As a person who has suffered under the “love” of a narcissistic abuser, so much about Sarah Boone’s speech patterns remind me of my abuser. The grandiosity, cruelty, the unreliable narration of history, framing themselves as a martyr… it all makes my “danger!” sensors go off. I see her continuing to prey on vulnerable people to “help,” in the jail and online, and I believe she will continue her abusive ways. If she were released, would she likely kill someone again? Maybe not, and maybe that’s why you consider her low risk. I think she’d wreak havoc, but maybe not kill (unless it was a drunk driving accident, we know she drove drunk a lot and Jorge would try to take her keys). I think what bothers me most is people calling her a victim. I believe people do this because she was the woman, and when when it’s recognized that Jorge was the one terrorized and killed, people still assume it went both ways. I really, really challenge you to watch the videos produced during the rebuttal phase (specifically the last hour or so of the court day on day 5, the lady 3-4 videos). Honestly… I do think Sarah is dangerous in part because she doesn’t see herself or her actions clearly. She kept saying she “kindly” and “humbly” spoke, when you see the video and she will have been screaming. I think she’s a bit… delusional maybe. But I could see her hurting someone again.

Thank you so much for explained it, Dr. John. I probably was the one who threw tomatoes on YouTube,lol. I watched Sarah Boone's full trial and was so mad and shocked seeing all the footages (which Sarah herself recorded). The amount of mental and physical abuses Jorge had experienced in these videos were so so sad. He was treated worse than a kettle. I think Sarah looked at Jorge as a 'project' , like how she stated about broken art in the sentencing. I personally think Sarah has a savior complex. That's why she couldn't stop mention about her two disable pets. It's also explained why she manipulated that witness who needs kidney transplant. For her Jorge with his alcohol addiction was one of her project to testify she as a saint. She looks at herself as a saint, a mother Threresa. It will be interesting to dig more into her history. I think we didn't heard much about criminals with savior complex thing ( I don't know what is the professional term for this personality). I wish Dr. John can enlighten us! Thank you again 😊

I found u both, thanking u & my lucky stars & instincts, because my go to trusted caster was just backward here & I couldn't deal with that. I wanted the facts & the truth & you gave us that every day, Lauren❣️ Thank you SO very much!! I would have been fine with u giving some of your own thoughts & takes during the trial long before you did, Lauren. I think that some never got past Gull trying to breach RA's 26th Amendment, which upset me too & was rectified. They got too entrenched & then were team Defense & not Abby or Libby & it led them to believe the insane 3rd party defense that rightly wasn't allowed. They got too close & then felt solidarity with the defense team then RA & facts went out the window. It was so disconcerting to me as a really big fan & sub & member. When you mentioned the 'post-it', I knew immediately & it bugged me a lot as part of the judicial process. I actually tweeted to a caster that I felt their "fingerprints" all over that Defense Closing. I wasn't corrected. I wrote again when RA's innocence came up in a cast on another case & said I hoped that cases would be separate going fwrd. I also wrote that we'll never agree on this case. Trust I believe that some casters are helping with the Appeal, imo. Just nuts, but they're allowed their opinion though I couldn't disagree with that more. RA was actually trying to confess, unload his guilt & to apologize & do the right thing, unlike Sarah Boone, but family, lawyers & others wouldn't let him, so he went to trial & there will be an Appeal. I 💯% believe that the truth came out, it made sense & Abby & Libby's families got justice for their precious girls 💙😇💜😇🙏🏼 Lauren & Dr John your work is greatly valued, appreciated & truly NEEDED in true crime community, TY🤝👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰 I am enjoying watching cases & trial coverage with you both. You two add such a complete picture with extra depth that's truly amazing!! Ok re: Sarah Boone at the end when Dr John said he thought Sarah Boone was a low risk for reoffending, I was yelling at the tv😂. BTW, I also understood what Dr. John was saying when you did your show on Sarah Boone’s sentencing. I appreciate your integrity, both of you, and always give you the benefit of the doubt. I love how carefully John speaks, and how often he says that he can’t diagnose someone he hasn’t evaluated, and those kinds of qualifiers. And tonight, on this live, when you were talking about integrity in your profession, that resonated with me—first, because that’s what I believe; second, that’s what I absolutely expected to be the way you operate; third, that is how I have tried to always conduct myself in my business and professional life. When speaking with a prospective client, I am clear that we won’t break or bend the law for anyone, but also we are going to do what we believe is the morally right thing to do in any situation where there’s a question. We’re in rentals and property management and my brother is my business partner now. So we get property owners who still want to discriminate on the basis of race and other factors that are protected by law. But we also treat people fairly because it’s the right thing to do. Very interestingly to me, this hasn’t hurt our business. In fact, almost every one of these clients either signs a contract at that time or calls the next day. Again, a long comment to say that I appreciate your integrity and the care you use when you choose your words. Lauren, I appreciate many things about you as well—it just feels like John was the one under fire tonight, so that led my thoughts here.

I feel like I have always understood that Dr. John’s process includes reflection, and he’s not ready until he’s ready. My husband and I have worked together in the past, and I get what you’re saying. Even though we collaborate really well together, I understand the push-pull. I also comment to my husband that I feel we have seen a shift in Dr. John since I first started listening to the Vallow-Daybell podcast. It seemed to me that he was very uncomfortable being on camera, as opposed to voice recording only. I remember a comment you made, Dr. John, that you were committed to what you were doing on Hidden True Crime, and you wanted to support Lauren and the channel. I feel like you really pushed outside your comfort zone to be on camera, and maybe ironically, as you have continued along with your unique coverage of these crimes, your subscribers have more and more become fans. I see a lot of “I miss Dr. John,” “Can’t wait to get his take on this,” etc. I love the way you both support each other and respect each other, and I love that Dr. John has a fan club (myself included). And I love the community—many very smart, kind people. When you were talking about having a pool party at the Bellagio if you got to 144,000 subs, I told my husband that I thought we should go, if it actually happened. This is extremely out of character for both of us, and he did look surprised. I also said that I thought Dr. John seemed about as excited to be in a swimsuit in a semi-public setting as I was. Cameron, my husband, said, “You like this guy, right? He’s one of the good ones?” I said “He is indeed, and I do like him.” Cameron: “Okay. I will wear a swimsuit and go stand by him and take my shirt off. When everyone sees the sun reflecting off my white, middle-aged belly, they won’t even notice him.” I hope you’re not offended by this. It was hilarious to me, because Cameron really can’t “do” true crime. He is absolutely gutted by any harm to a child, especially. So I don’t talk to him about those aspects, but I do sometimes share Dr. John’s literary comparisons, or talk about your friendships with Larry and Kay, and Colby, all of whom have completely captured my heart, and other details that aren’t directly about the crimes. So… all that to say that I feel like I get the husband-wife thing.

So what I’m hearing is that the instruments used to assess risk of reoffending are inadequate because what is being assessed is limited in such a way that mimics the inherent bias baked in to the criminal justice system. It seems pretty obvious based on how high recidivism rates are in the U.S. that those “risk assessments” are not very reliable. I want to know how those instruments are validated - how often does predicted risk correspond with actual behavior? Data suggests those assessments have about a 60% accuracy rate when administered by a human and slightly higher predictive validity if using actuarial assessment. That is not good. The BJS reports up to 50% of intimate partner homicide perpetrators have been arrested for a previous violent crime. (Note I said arrested not convicted.) So it was disconcerting to hear Dr. John say he can only take convictions into account.

I have invented a technical term for that Virginia wolf style DV. “Two bogans fighting” Sometimes there is one submissive partner who does what they’re told by the abuser- Mostly male perps but also female- But so many people assume there is always one bad and one good. Not true. Sometimes bad people find each other- But no one deserves to be murdered. I did what I was told when I was with a violent man- and as John mentioned regarding if he got out of the case? I wouod absolutely be dead if I had put my husband in a suitcase. (Then let him out) But he only tried to kill me a few times and I didn’t fight back. His girlfriend after me? Dead He told people he was going to admit himself to psych institution so he could get away with killing me However he met a girl in there who was in for being angry borderline personality. So they met and fell in love- Moved in together days later and she was dead in about 3 weeks And obviously she didn’t do what he told her. She died in a “house fire “ 3 days after police were called to domestic there. And as John mentioned- my husband had NO record So eventhough I was granted a life time AVO he has no charges - with regards to me or that girl who died. She of course may have died accidentally - with her fries frying - and a damaged skull- However I don’t think so. Nor do the police. But they did say “we don’t want to put you at risk - making you a witness- do you think maybe you’re safer now? Could he get away with this twice ? But that girl was from a crappy dysfunctional family- one of her kids had been removed (one they returned after I said my kids weren’t safe with him ) So none of her family or friends or anyone has cared to push for further investigation. My point? Unfortunately there are many violence people and child sx offenders- have NO record at all or apparent history.

I thought, "Well yeah — she's probably never going to zip somebody up in a suitcase again." I do think Jorge's death was a horrible accident AND I also think Sarah Boone got the correct sentence.

I'm FAR from qualified to determine risk, but I had the thought that she could do major harm to her son! I feel uncomfortable saying that because I've never heard of any evidence that she was abusive to her son. But I represented parents with substance use disorders a long time ago and alcoholics were at a very high risk of being negligent or worse parents. Plus, her dominance over Jorge who as smaller than her made me think this as well. And that's not to say that just because she was bigger than him that he couldn't abuse her. I've seen little guys inflict abuse on female partners. But my point is, I think she's also an abuser who has learned absolutely nothing about anything! And she would abuse and physically harm (or worse) someone else in the future.

Considering she tried to choke her former husband more than once when she was drunk and mad, I think she has reoffending risk until she deals with whatever underlying issues she has. The evidence from her phone at trial shows that she had zero insight into how her behavior is abusive… I could easily see her in a future “not intentional” criminal situation

I respectfully disagree with the continued speculation that Jorge was abusive when there is evidence that she fabricated and contradicted herself many times in her stories of abuse. Also, we will never get to hear his side as she killed him so I feel it is unfair to believe her at face value and not give grace to him, the victim. I believed initially that their relationship may have been mutually abusive, more complex than we knew. After seeing Jorge cowering in fear in the body cam footage and her glee in punishing him by calling the police, making up lies on the spot, it made it clear that this likely wasn't the case. There are also text messages of her manipulating him, disparaging him when he tried to leave her. It was horrific. Whatever his faults were he didn't deserve this. I hope that for future cases there is more sensitivity when speculating on situations where there is a lack of knowledge of the case and when it applies to a victim that can no longer tell their story and also consideration for the victim's family. You do such a great job and I really believe in the work you do.

This is why risk assessment is a different issue than punishment. I love Dr. John because he articulates it so well. This has to happen because most offenders will be in the community again, so we need to know who is higher risk than another and what we need to do to make sure offenders can be more successful and contribute to society. Otherwise it is a revolving door of generations of criminality.

It seems the prosecution felt she was "low risk" for murder or they wouldn't have offered her a deal. But she is so prideful and can't get out of her own way and now she has a life sentence, which seems appropriate since she can't take responsibility or feel empathy or remorse for her actions. Sarah tries to control people and situations and has anger. I think she is a time bomb. Mix in alcohol and it is worse. I think Jorge was pretty weak physically. He had health issues, drinking, by the time he went down the stairs and hit by the bat he was not a threat. He couldn’t breathe. She knew that. She went to far.

I can see how she could be classified as “low risk” for murder. However, after that statement she is definitely “high risk” for her to commit abuse on other people in her orbit. Glad life is life here in Florida, hope she enjoys her retirement at Lowell. I hear it’s absolutely miserable all times of the year.

I don't think she deserves a life sentence. 25 years max. Tomatoes are great... Need to add that DOC did a psych report and we were not privy to the results. There could be a good reason for the life sentence

Absolutely! He worried about her. I think abuse goes both ways. There are men who are abused. She was the dominant and she treated him like a child and charity case!
