I totally agree with Grayson (not sure if I’m spelling it right) this podcast/channel is so unique and provides immense value for me I love the education I get and you don’t turn families’ greatest tragedies into entertainment but rather show us how society can learn from them. And that’s the side of true crime that I like.

2025-05-08 17:10:57 +0000 UTCIt’s interesting because if we equate psycho/sociopathic traits with evil- but those ppl have no capacity to be naturally empathetic then they can’t really be blamed? However I have heard from people who have friends diagnosed sociopathic and they make a choice to be considerate and have their work arounds for it. So wouldn’t that mean to be truly evil someone who is capable of empathy would have to actively choose to NOT be empathetic is what evil actually is? Also I don’t think a diagnosis necessarily negates evil. I think it explains behavior but if a person has the capacity to be empathetic then maybe they are just evil? Not every person who was cruelly abused as a child will choose to abuse others. They exercise their empathy and know that those behaviors hurt others and actively choose to change their behaviors. So is it evil to decide not to change? Is every person capable of change? Definitely an intriguing discussion. Thank you.

If those evil choices make up what can be perceived as their general presence and/or contribution in the world, I think it makes sense to call them evil. Hitler would be a great example. For me, the evil is about how much harm they inflict throughout their life. If Hitler had been genuinely remorseful in the last 24 hours of his life, would it have made him a less evil person? I’d argue that we’d still think of him as evil.

What drives someone to torture, kill or dismember another human being. Wouldn’t a person have to be “crazy” to do such a thing or are they just evil?

No doubt, the daybells and Sarah Boone could also be characterized as such. What must go on in the minds of evil people is a mystery to us. There are so many factors to consider in this question. But if you emit their mental health, the way they are brought up etc and ask yourself what did they get out of it? I could be totally wrong but that's how I try to determine if someone is truly evil

Generational trauma, sexual abuse, physical abuse, drugs/alcohol, hate, traumatic brain or physical injury, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, control, mental illness, selfishness, narcissists it goes on and on. We are all born innocent? If you have a dog and love it and only treat it positive and feed it and give it affection and care about its every need it will love you back. On the other hand if you have a dog and kick it and starve it of food and affection and fight it with other mean dogs. You cage it and yell it and abuse it, it will learn to bite and kill. I think we all ask why, I think that is for me at least what makes me interested in true crime. No empathy, no self control, no conscious, what makes these people hurt and kill? Especially their spouse and children, people they say they love? Children?
