[New Files!] The Remastered Realistic Rex is finally here! Added to October Specialist Rewards

This has without a doubt been one of my most complex builds so far but I think you all are going to love it! I spent a lot of time getting the tolerances of each piece just right and figuring out a way to allow the binoculars and rangefinder to work in tandem.

To go over some of the changes to the Realistic Rex model:

- Now includes 2 versions - one based on the Sideshow Realistic Rex sculpt and another based on the Hot Toys version. "HT" will denote Hot Toys unique features
- Added moveable rangefinder
- Added moveable binoculars (HT)
- Added magnet separation of front, back, and dome pieces (including non-magnet versions)
- Added visor ridge and cutout template (including non-visor ridge and non-magnet versions)
- Added Phase 1 Visor Curved version (including non-visor ridge and non-magnet versions)
- Added alternate flashlight ear detail (HT)
- Added 6x3mm magnet holes to rangefinder cap so rangefinder can be removed
- Cut holes for 1/4" diameter wooden dowels through binoculars and rangefinder for more durable movement
- Modified helmet welds for HT/SS accuracy
- Added Jaig Eye and Tube Stripe painting templates

*Note about the binocular and rangefinder* - the rangefinder must be lifted and rotated to move downwards. The binoculars must be in the "upwards" position for the rangefinder to move "downwards" and vice versa - the rangefinder cannot move "down" if the binoculars are already "down"

I think that's all the changes covered! I really hope you guys enjoy the helmet as it took a lot of work to get all the differences, details, and mechanics of the helmet to work well. Thank you for your continued support!

- Aaron

guessing you've figured it out by now - but just in case - open all the files you want in Meshmixer (ex: Dome, Back, Front) then in the 'object browser' window, select all 3 files, when you do this you get a little popup for actions & one is called 'Combine' - do this & then go to 'File->Export' (Not ExportSVG) & the default file type will be STL. Which you can then import your new file into your favorite slicer (Cura?) & you're set. Personally though I wouldn't print this entire helmet at once even if your printer is big enough. If it fails late in the print, it's a lot more wasted filament. But whatever you decide, HAVE FUN!

Okay so I’m new to all this. I just downloaded meshmixer. Is there any videos or websites that might help explain how to combine them to make one full helmet?

Bryan Freeman

I will do what I must

Joey Jones

The form is roughly the same so the template should work but you'd need to make some modifications to the ear pieces for the rangefinder

Aaron Hughes

So I already have the base helmet primed at this point. Do you think I might be able to drill out the ear peice for the moveable rangefinder? And I'm assuming the template would fit on the older version? Sorry for the questions I just really don't want to waste this one.

Joey Jones

Yes! I saw that and wondered if that was the case. I already dropped the HT into Meshmixer and was combining my new highly customized helmet. This is SO awesome. THANK YOU!

there's not a "single" file helmet just because there's a lot of different combos you could pick. They all should be oriented in their default position though so you could load them into a program like meshmixer and combine them to your liking

Aaron Hughes

Quick question... I didn't see a full helmet file... did I just miss it in my excitement to print it? :D
