A note on Paizo's updates to the Community User License
Added 2024-08-20 17:29:42 +0000 UTCPaizo has officially discontinued the Community Use License, instead creating something called the Fan Content Policy. Unfortunately, the Fan Content Policy does not apply to character builders. That means, at the moment, there is not policy PathCompanion fits under.
For the moment, nothing is changing. As long as no changes are made to PathCompanion, the product is grandfathered into the Community Use License. But that means until I can get some answers on how to move forward, I won't be able to make any updates.
I've reached out to Paizo to let them know about the situation. I believe I'm in a similar situation as a popular Starfinder builder built by hephaistos. Here's what hephaistos wrote a while back: https://www.reddit.com/r/starfinder_rpg/comments/1ecve5k/licensing_changes_hephaistos/
So far hephaistos hasn't received an update, but might be working on getting a bespoke license. That's a route I'm interested in, so I've let Paizo know.
I'll keep you all updated with what I hear.

Just a reminder to EVERYONE to apply pressure to Paizo to undo this terrible policy change. This is very much like what Wizards of the Coast did last year. Community tools like PathCompanion are what made Paizo ever succeed. Tools shouldn't need special licenses and permissions to exist. And Paizo made these changes with literally ZERO notice as well. And please be prepared to back up your words.
