Author Q&A (April)

As I mentioned last night, we got something like 40 or 48 questions last month; I answered more than twenty, but that leaves a bunch left over! As such, I will only be opening up for new questions for 8 hours this month. Don't worry, though, once we've cleared out the queue, it'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming! (Except that I'll probably only be open for one day a month from now on instead of two, to keep up with the rate of questions)! Keep them coming!
Anyway, if you know the drill, fire away! The deadline for this month's questions is later today (April 25th) at 2 PM MST. I will not save or answer any questions sent after the deadline!

The author Q&A is a space where you can ask pretty much any question and I will give answers as best I can! NSFW, spoilers, and everything else are totally on the table! However, I try to be somewhat vague about totally game-breaking spoilers, though I still answer them!
(I also reserve the right not to answer questions that I deem inappropriate--like weird personal questions, not necessarily NSFW--or those which make me uncomfortable, though, but it's a pretty common sense process!)
If you want to send in a question, either comment below or ask through the ShoH Tumblr mailbox (usually if you want to remain anonymous). If you do ask anonymously, please type #tellmeeverything in your question. If you don't do this, I won't know that you're asking for the Q&A, so your question might not be answered if you don't include that tag!
I will answer the first 20 questions sent in before the deadline, and save any others for next month if I receive them before the window closes.

Concerning the ket, why was Blade picked to be the assassin and not Gladius? Do some kets specifically have a certain number of children to fulfill particular roles in society?

I was curious about the Autarch and I was wondering if we could get some non-spoiler information about her and the royal (dictator lol) family—like, does she have siblings/therefore niblings? Are they part of the political sphere or kept away so there's no succession crisis? Also you mentioned the Autarch opened up all Orders to all genders—prior to this generation, was there sexism and the Autarch was in like a Queen Elizabeth situation for lack of male heirs or something? You don't have to answer all of these lmao. She's a very interesting character to me (even though objectively she sucks) and I'd love to know more!
