Short Story Poll (May #2)
Added 2021-05-08 02:11:42 +0000 UTCHi everyone, it looks like serialized short stories won the last poll regarding our future short stories! That's not to say we won't do the other options that didn't win sometime later, but this gives me a concrete direction to head in for now!
One thing I forgot to mention last time is that these serialized short stories will be slightly tricky in that they obviously take place during the game (just off-screen), but MC will not be in them (because they're off doing their missions or something). However, I feel like it would be weird if MC wasn't ever mentioned, especially in stories that feature their recruits, so I'm wondering if I should just write MC's name as literally "MC", or pick a gender-neutral placeholder name that you can just swap out mentally as the MC name of your choice, like "Briar Emelan" or something like that. Or maybe we could vote on a communal MC name LOL? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Finally, I've popped down some ideas that I've been toying with for the first serialized short story! I have others in the reserves, but I'm only putting down the first few that have the strongest chance of being turned into a cohesive, multi-chaptered story first. Once I get the first story done, more options will pop up in the polls in the future!
Vote below on what story you want to see first!
Option A: Chase, Briony, and MC's recruit Justyn pursue a magical arsonist in Ambryn with the help of the city's Fire Brigade. Meanwhile, they must prevent riots from breaking out against another Mage threat in a city still raw from their own Equalists.
Option B: Blade, Ayla, and Lavinet are tasked to protect and escort a young noblewoman across harsh terrain, only to run into a mysterious group of masked criminals. Meanwhile, their client has a secret of her own.
Option C: Trouble and Riel prepare to save one of their officers from a law tribunal imposed by the Inquisitors. Meanwhile, a business connection tempts them both with the promise of developing airships for the Order.
Other percolating ideas for later:
- Red, Halek, and MC's recruit Ysa return to her hometown of Karzai to investigate the illegal shipment of arcane weapons.
- Tallys, Red, and MC's recruit Cybele attempt to enter a forbidden temple said to withhold an ancient secret that could serve as a weapon for the Order. However, the trials within are far more than they ever expected.
- Deep in the Archmage's Vaults, Shery and Caine stumble across a veil that shows them reflections of other worlds.
- A sickness that takes over the compound turns out to be an affliction that can steal the Shepherds' powers.

Another vote for just a title. It does help with immersion and usually flows pretty naturally.

The only thing would be that it wouldn't work for anyone who kept their MC from becoming a captain (can you even do this? I could never say no to Blade. I'm a sucker for Kets apparently), but I think that would be less of an issue than trying to keep a name (even a generic one) from removing the reader from the story. Plus, since it's just a little mention here and there and not the backbone of the story, I like the title idea because it just blends right in with the narrative for being off on our own adventures while shenanigans take place back home. Yay shenanigans! ๐
