The Noontide of Valinor
Added 2015-07-18 10:57:34 +0000 UTCFirst digital sketch (actually, already the third refined one) for a commission for Erin Clark. The Noontide of Valinor, with the two Trees in the centre, and the Aratar around: Left Manwë, Oromë, Mandos, Nienna; right Varda, Aulë, Yavanna, and Ulmo.
We both decided male Valar needed beards. Except Mandos, for some reason.

2015-07-20 13:13:25 +0000 UTCI have a more Elvish version of the Valar in mind as well, but the Graeco-Roman or possibly Nordic, I see that in them as well, works out nicely too.

2015-07-18 14:16:36 +0000 UTCFunny with the beards - I would probably have gone the exact opposite way: no beards except possibly for Mandos (I am fairly certain Tolkien somewhere says that the phanar the Valar wore in imitation of the Eruhíni were based on Elvish hröar, which would mean beardless) :)
