A few thoughts on process videos

I've been thinking about the watercolour vids I've been doing over the last two months, and I decided I'll be sharing them elsewhere too. They're so ridiculously time-consuming that I want more people to see them. Plus, I think I was going at it the wrong way. What I want with Patreon isn't to force people to pay for stuff I'll otherwise withhold from them, but to show their appreciation for seeing things I've created (which is what we're here for!) So, the videos won't be exclusive anymore, though you'll definitely still get them first - and there might be some I don't share publicly.

I hope that's all right with ya'll. :)

I'm really glad this decision is meeting with so much approval! You guys are wonderful. :)

(Been meaning to comment for a while, sorry.) I love this decision. I think Patreon should be about supporting artists and their work/passion not a means to haver a mini ego-trip for getting something that someone else didn't. It's also not a glorified payment plan. This, to me, is about creating a community, connections, friendships even, with the love of (your!) art at the core. To limit that, to put a price on it, to exclude others, well, IMO that cheapens it. Love this decision.

Your art is so beautiful and your style is so well realized; it seems like part of your (and our!) obligation is to share how you've built it with others. Please carry on!

Yep, that's the idea, exactly.

It seems to work for others - but hey, I'm hardly Sakimichan! :D Not my business model.

I don't mind at all. I do video for a living. I know what it is like when you spend lots of time shooting & editing something. If you're proud of it and it's good, get it out there and let people see it.

Agreed on not wanting Patreon to be a 'pay so you can see things' option. I've seen a few patreon users who actually had this approach and it quite sickened me (as well as their attitude 'you pay so I can get better drawing equipment, or follow art courses so I don't have to invest in becoming a better artist myself)

I think it is a good idea. I love the approach of Patreon as a way to support artists we love. I don't enjoy the way it can go more towards the 'reward' model, or as you put it 'force people to pay for stuff'.
