Art books - the bad news and the good news

There is some news on the art books. It starts bad, as you can see, and then gets pretty good.

I got my 125 copies from Oloris Publishing last Tuesday - and nearly a heart attack. The printer had packed the books so that it was impossible for them to survive the trip from Canada. Of 125 books, only 8 (!) were undamaged. I sent them all back to an arbtitrative board; Oloris will try to get the money back from the publisher. That was the bad news. And yes, it ruined my week.

The good news is: Oloris are sending me a PDF so that I can print the books here, with a printer that I know does great work AND knows how to ship books. I hope to have the PDF early next week, and the books might be here about a week later. And they'll be in hardcover.

I know of one or two of you who got the sketch package. Has Oloris reached out to you yet? (They'd better. They still haven't sent me a list of sketch package buyers.) You can choose to have your paperback copy sent to you by Oloris now, and get your sketch separately from me in the mail. Or you can wait until mid-October, and get the hardcover book with sketch directly from me.

Non-preorderers: The books will be available from me mid-October (barring any further catastrophes, but I'd say I've used up all of mine, right?). Books with sketch will take a bit longer, as I have to do the sketch package orders first!

I'm incredibly sorry about this whole thing. and you can imagine that I'm pretty upset about all that has gone wrong with this wretched art book project. I want to bring it to a satisfying close, soon, and you can all bet I'll do my next artbook myself.

Comments

Jenny,

Matthew Vosper

Jenny, I received mine while I was away (in Canada). Ironically the ones I received also had some damage on the front covers in various was between the two. They ARE, however, gorgeous books and it was indeed a joy to flip through my copy! Indeed sorry this has been a plague project on many accounts.

Just received my copy here in France, the cover is very slightly damaged on the corner (still the packaging was perfect), but that's nothing, it is pure beauty inside!

Natalia Borurueva

Whoo! So glad to hear that. ^___^ I'll upload some Rhyddion Chronicles stuff here soon! :)

Jenny Dolfen

Forgot to add, the book was well worth the (very very long) wait!

Jenny, Songs of Sorrow and Hope arrived today!! It's beautiful! Loving the blurbs and your comments with the pictures, but need to remember not to drink while reading :D I've never read The Rhyddion Chronicles, but the artwork is so lovely I'll be checking this out!

Hey Sommer, fancy seeing you here! :) Was it the package with sketch? If so, then it will be shipped through me. Everything else is handled by Oloris. They're shipping the books at the moment. Have you received a shipping confirmation? Dorte said she got one in the mail. If it's the book plus sketch package, then you would not have had an email - I was supposed to do the books with sketch and then send them to buyers, but well, as you ca see above, those books won't be sent to anyone except back to the printer...

Jenny Dolfen

Oh dear! I'm still waiting on my copy that my husband ordered(with something included, I think)...I'm in the U.S. Do you have any idea of the time frame for other pre-orders here? I'm so sorry that you've had such trouble. I'm sure it will be well worth our wait though :-)

Sommer Sorenson

Oh no. :/ By all means, make them take back the mangled one. So you ordered three copies, one with sketch, and they sent you three? That's weird, since they shouldn't be sending out sketch copies - I was supposed to do that. Only, well, I can't right now, without copies.

Jenny Dolfen

I picked up my three books this morning. One was fine, one had slight damage on a corner, and one was much more mangled. Only one of the three was supposed to have a sketch. Do you think I'd be able to send back the mangled one and get a hardcover from you?

Gwendolyn

To be fair, the publisher didn't ship my books themselves - they had the printer ship them straight to me (they're a small publisher that doesn't do the printing in-house). But the printing company is, by all means, a nightmare.

Jenny Dolfen

Zounds! What good is a book publisher who doesn't know how to SHIP books properly? O_O

Rowana

Fingers crossed! They said their copies were fine, and judging by their reaction to the photos, they were just as shocked that anyone would send a book like that. Maybe I attracted all the bad luck there was?

Jenny Dolfen

I am so sorry you're going through this!! What a rough week :(

Alexandra Rena

I had an e-mail from Oloris on the 20th informing me they've shipped my copy, so far it hasn't arrived... I hope it arrives okay.
