Blodeuwedd - finished

Welcome the May-queen

Sing for her now

For as the year turns to Samhain

She'll return as an owl

(Damh the Bard)

Not a good day today. I wasn't quite sure what I was doing as I painted, and I'm not quite sure now. It's not what I envisioned it, and I would have liked to go in again and lift off some paint, or pick out some gradients, but made the mistake to fixate with fixative in between, which doesn't help the paper properties at all.

This turned out so beautifully. The colors seem so soft and go together so well, it gives the whole piece such a wonderful, near delicate look

This turned out so beautiful! I love the other-worldliness about it...does that make sense?

The weird thing is - I'm looking at this as if it was someone else's piece. I'll go the complete other way with my next one - Reduced and soft. At least I hope so. I did think I wanted soft for this as well...

Jenny Dolfen

oh that's so lovely and delicate!

I love the colours in this! They're so rich and autumn-like :) I guess if you're not happy it's always something you can revisit after time and a little more perspective. But I think it looks amazing!

Hee hee :) I think the hawthorn at the top doesn't quite work, but maybe Rebecca'll have another idea on Tuesday.

There is such delicate beauty to this! You have excelled with these flowers. Pat yourself on the back, and take a relaxing break. :)

Alexandra Rena

Thanks! ^^ Yes, I allowed a fair bit of autumn to creep into this one - spring flowers with an autumn feel.

Jenny Dolfen

Aw, thanks Is! I'll write you a note about it later - possibly Tuesday. :)

That's what it is, I think, yes - denser and more solid, when in fact I've been wanting to steer away from solid. ;) Using reference so much is what makes me do it, I think - I see all those shadows and details and nuances and want to paint them all in.

Jenny Dolfen

Oh that is absolutely gorgeous. It's a bit denser in color than your usual, is that why you're not sure of it? (I'm personally a fan of dense color, so I think it's wonderful). I like how you've worked the green (spring) and brown (autumn) into it as Ellen remarked below. Really, She's very very lovely.

I admire that you chose more subtle yellows and whites for the flowers -- it works with the browns to create a very "Spring into Autumn" feel to the piece! I love that when you put your left hand over the human face and mouth, the owl face is perfect. My goodness, lady, you do stunning work!

Wow! And more wow!! I think she came out unbelievably stunning. The colors are fantastic and the details amazing. I love the depth you're getting with color now. (I think it's tough to reconcile things when they come out not like you expected. That happens to me with cooking all the time.) She's beautiful!!!
