It was the absolutely rotten combination of a head-cold (another one) and working on two commissions that took ages to get off the ground. Remind me never to work with a publisher again if I haven't heard of them before. Gah! They insisted on communicating only with the author (a scholar writing about chivalry in Westeros), and not with me - "so I could concentrate solely on the artwork". Thing is, their communication - or lack thereof - meant I didn't even have any artwork to concentrate on.
Now the lovely author of the book has suggested bypassing the publisher - I'll do the piece for her, and if the publisher likes it, they'll use it for the cover. If they don't, she'll have commissioned a nice piece of art from me. Yay. Anarchy in publishing! I like that.
