Three is company: Sam, Pippin, Frodo

There's one thing I owe to the Peter Jackson movies: They made me appreciate that the Hobbits could look different. I grew up with the cartoony Bakshi version, of which I mercifully managed to forget almost everything, except that Sam's nose was as big as his feet, and that the other three were completely indistinguishable. Through my early years, I drew them accordingly. I still barely see them very differently when I read the book, but at least I can make an effort now!

A Patreon-related note: It seems a new feature was rolled out to creators that allows us to see not just our patrons, but also our followers. I didn't even know you could follow Patreon Creators. And wow - literally hundreds of you have been following my stuff here! A welcome is in order, then!

If any of you who have been enjoying my posts would consider joining my actual Patrons, that would be pretty cool. Just sayin'. Seems fair, right? =)

The Spanish-Latin American translation had Frodo as "more blonde than all of them" (?) but that could be referring to hair color as well as very fair skin. By the way, I was madly in love with Frodo when I read the book at age 14 and wrote little secret love letters to him. For some reason I liked the idea of having a boyfriend that was even shorter than I was. ^^'

Maybe it was that infamous "fairer than most" that Gandalf uses to describe Frodo to Butterbur? The German translation made of it "has lighter hair than most", and it made me think Frodo was blond for the longest time...

Planning on it at the end of the month πŸ˜‰

True, it was similar with me. I didn't know the Bakshi version, but I imagined the four hobbits very similar, only Sam a bit fatter. :-) And perhaps also with darker hair and skin – the opposite to how he was portrayed in the movies. I think it could be based on some mention somewhere, but I cannot really find any reference to it now.
