Maglor, Fingon suggestions please!

I feel I've been neglecting those two - mainly Maglor! You came up with such awesome ideas the last time; any thoughts in scenes with Fingon or Maglor that are both iconic and "less travelled"?

Or any other Finweans I may have neglected, in actual scenes in which they get to be awesome?

Comments

Oh, I love that suggestion! Definitely seconding!

Lyra

Fingon vs young Glaurung? I can find you some cool reference pics of horseback archers :-)

Lintie

I'd really love this one. Finwë's sword was found charred by him. but my personal theory for this is that he didn't even try to attack Morgoth. That he said to him "You have no right to enter my house", just like an echo of what his son Fëanor had told him before. Like he knew he was not going to stop him, but chose to die with as much dignity as he could gather... Ok, yes, I've been reading too much of THAT Silm book and HoME in the last few years. u.u'

I can’t help it... so here’s another one: Finwë facing Morgoth at Formenos (he got himself killed - so he must have been in the way...). Or Celembrimbor choosing to stay at Nargothrond instead of following his father.

I know a lot of people who would love Mereth Aderthad. =D I think that's high on my list!

Jenny Dolfen

It's one of those stories I never really got into! It's frequently requested and I've done a few quick ones over the years, but I never really got into them.

I know - like Caranthir, I don't like Turgon. I just don't really feel him. He remains strangely colourless for me.

Maglor killing Uldor is probably the one with the most mentions, and was already on my mental list!

Jenny Dolfen

That's a lot of great thoughts there! I think I haven't drawn Angrod and Aegnor since the nineties. =O

There's this super-incredibly-fantastic painting of the harp scene done by Elena Kukanova, which looks like the way I would have done it if I had the skill, haha!

I'm going to suggest the Mereth Aderthad, the feast of reuniting. Maedhros and Maglor attended... :) I'll admit I have a fondness for Maglor. :)

Not Maglor or Fingon, but I always liked Caranthir and Haleth's story. Mainly, I liked that (in an altruistic act for once?) he rushes to save her people from orcs only to show up and see Haleth fighting orcs and organising her people in her father and brother's stead going "yeah, I've got this thanks". I always thought she was badass :D

According to the Lay of Leithian, Thorondor himself brought the news of Fingolfin’s fall to the elves. Also, In the Grey Annals it says that Fingolfin’s horse Rochallor has returned to Hislum riderless and then died. When that happened Fingon must have guessed what happened to his father. It would be great to see either of these scenes illustrated.

Tanya

Hm, maybe something about Maglor as Regent? Maybe turning away the messenger asking for their surrender for Maedhros? Or fighting dragonfire in the Gap? As for Fingon....trying to stop his father, perhaps?

Davina

Also you don’t show Turgon much....him burying his father, or at the height of battle meeting Hurin (with Fingon beside him?) at the Battle of Unnumbered Tears?

Teresa Hearty

And so Fingon became High King of the Noldor... seriously, Thorondor delivered Fingolfin’s body to the mountains of Gondolin, so who told Finhon of his father’s death at the hands of Morgoth? How would he take the news considering it was on the back of the Battle of Sudden Flame?

Teresa Hearty

Maglor killing the Easterling traitor (which one of them was it? I don't have the Silmarillion handy at the moment). Or he as the leader of Feanorians during Maedhros' imprisonment. Fingon taking part in the first kinslaying. Other Finweans - I'd love to see your depiction of Caranthir, maybe with Haleth? Or with the Naugrim?

Matěj Čadil

Iconic scene with Maglor that’s rarely get’s depicted is easy. “... for Maglor slew Uldor the accursed, the leader of treason ...” As for other neglected Fenwëans — Angrod and Aegnor often get neglected. You can always draw them fighting side by side with Beorings, keeping watch on Angband from Dorthonion, or even supporting High King Fingolfin during a war council in his plans to attack Morgoth. I’d also love to see more art for Amrod and Amras, because there’s almost nothing about them in the legendarium. But I can’t think of a good scene with them other than apocryphal story of the burning of the ships and their role in the attack on Havens of Sirion in the canonical version. Edit: I just had another thought. How about drawing Finarfin (he’s a Finwëan!) at the moment when he turns back?

Tanya

Finrod Felagund defending Beren from the wolf; meeting men for the first time and their response to his "rude harp" playing.... (An aside: Huan!!)
