The six new pins getting ready!

I've been carrying these around mentally for months, and finally got round to finishing up the designs! I'm really proud of the Rings, and will echo some of the Silmaril colour schemes for their interiors.

Top is Narya, which passed from Círdan to Gandalf. I chose the Sun as a major element in it, being a more benign fiery power, but tied it to the "fire" Silmaril by rock and stone.

Middle is Nenya, Galadriel's ring, which never had another master; the centre depicts Lothlorien. I'm unsure whether I'll stick with a yellow and gold colour scheme, or somehow will tie it to the "water" Silmaril through the use of green. I'll fiddle with colour schemes today. It also bears a tiny reference to Sam's "I saw a Star through your finger".

Bottom is Vilya, which passed from Gil-galad to Elrond. I echoed the "air" Silmaril's ship design, and the star can stand for both Gil-galad's name and Elrond's father Eärendil. That one was easiest to tie in with its Silmaril.

Question! The Water Ring is the only one of the Three that uses mithril as metal. I've never made pins with silver-coloured metal (I somehow doubt they offer mithril); I've toyed with the idea to make this pin silver instead of gold. Would you feel it jars with the other two, since these will come as a set? Or would the design unify them enough?

Here's an updated, cleaned-up version of "Tinfang Warble":

Here's a slightly updated, more cleanly lettered, version of "Adventure".

Aaaaand the one (I hope) you've been waiting for: Éowyn! These will all be a smidge bigger than the Silmaril-and-Finwean-ones I did last year, between Maglor and Glorfindel in size. I'll run them my the manufacturer and will see what they say. But they did terrific work with the tiny details in Fingon last year, so I'm confident they'll make them work.

The pins are going to be lovely. I don't like what your doctor said about not reading or drawing. I'm wondering if maybe you should go to a different doctor to see if they have a better attitude and can do better for you.

Ha! I love this community so much. <3

Ooo!! ~raises hand~ Re: Gold + Mithril. If we're talking Sindarin, the poetic word for gold is Culu. Mithril is a compound word of mith- (silver) and -ril (brilliance). If I remember correctly, words undergo lenition when compounded, so theoretically, you could have "Guluril" (gold brilliance, as in gold on par with mithril)... or "Gulumithril" combining both entirely. But, knowing the Elves' penchant for taking poetic license, they'd likely do something like "Anoril" combining sun and brilliance. It rolls off the tongue better, too, which seemed to be a linguistic priority. Then again, only mortal men would want to dilute mithril down with something as heavy and burdensome as gold. ~scoffs melodramatically~ Oh dang, my nerd is showing. I'll be in the corner. 🤣

Galadriel's ring is called "the ring of adamant", which I've always interpreted as mithril, but *could* refer to its being set with a diamond. And as others have said, there is a precident for making them all golden. (Random thought: since a mixture of gold and silver is electrum, what would a mixture of gold and True Silver/mithril be called?)

You are right, Éowyn IS the pin I’ve been waiting for. So excited!

Oooh, Eowyn is beautiful in her armor. Will Faramir be next? Please have Faramir be next. I’m partial to silver (platinum) over gold, and thus see no problem with having one ring be silver. However, aesthetically, I agree with others that making all 3 be gold would be more pleasing. OR. Do 2 sets: One in gold, one in silver, so people may choose their preference.

Madge Doty

He drew the Elves rings? I didn't know!

Jenny Dolfen

That makes sense - and the gold will go much better with the warm greens and golds I have!

Jenny Dolfen

I don't think you can have parts of pins plated in a different colour metal than the others - it sounds like courting disaster! ;)

Fellow Tolkien geek, and I agree with Tanya about all 3 being gold. For me, it kind of depends on the interior color scheme, though. If you're making the woods a blue-ish green, then silver would complement the watery theme... but if the greens are more yellow-ish, then gold would likely look nicer. So both are great, but I think interior colors might make a difference. ^_^

At first, I was thinking of silver for the three rings, however I do agree with Tanya. I just can’t imagine seeing the small Lothlorien woods inside Galadriel’s ring with a gold accent. Is it possible to do both silver and gold; gold for the rings and silver accents for the small scenes? I love how Eowyn turned out! A must!!!

Emily Sheldrake

A beautiful set. The three rings of the elves have ever held a special place for me. And Eowyn is one of my favorite characters.

Steven Tryon

Originally Tolkien wrote that all Three Rings were made from gold. He also drew them in golden. He only added a detail about Galadriel’s when the book was in the proof. The drawing was never altered. So I think it’s okay to make them all golden.
