He sang a song of Valinor

"Then in defiance of the Orcs, who cowered still in the dark vaults beneath the earth, he took his harp and sang a song of Valinor that the Noldor made of old, before strife was born among the sons of Finwë; and his voice rang in the mournful hollows that had never heard before aught save cries of fear and woe."

Watercolour and white gel pen (eyes... XD) on Fabriano No. 5, 23x31 cm.

This should just be THE cover for The Silmarillion. It’s so RIGHT!

Liv Klein

Oh WOW <3 Everything about this painting is incredibly satisfying to look at! Also, FINGON <3

Juliette Lin

Absolutely right, of course!

I like the subtle wash of green in the middle of the vision. I feel silly for just realizing this, but those are THE two Trees, right? And am I correct to interpret the riders as Maedhros and Fingon?

This is so incredible Jenny! I not only love the simple colour scheme, but really love the emotion it conveys. Looks fantastic on that Fabriano paper! I’ll have to order some samples off of Jackson’s. Yes, what a wonderful start indeed! I can’t wait to see where this goes!

Emily Sheldrake

Thank you!! Yes, seems like I'm on a roll!

Jenny Dolfen

Oooh, right! I often doodle them somewhere. ^^

This is just beyond breathtaking! The contrast of the two riders in the song with not a care in the world and all eternity in Valinor in front of them portrayed alongside the bleakness of their lives now just makes me ache for them. This one and Atonement - what a start to the year!!

Jennifer Colley

This painting is awesome. And the two riders! <3 They remind me so much of the ones you sketched on the mats of my Inktober pieces.

Anjuschka

Oh. My. Goodness. 😭💕💕💕

Laura Michel

Truly spectacular. The perspective is just breathtaking and I love the way the music manifests visually. A new favourite!

Lyra

Ah gorgeous, I love it! Also love the 'music' part. Lovely effect!
