I'm beginning to think the only gouache course I need is someone who holds my hand during the "ugly stage" of a painting (i. e. the first 90%) and tells me, "It'll be all right".
I switched from trying to use gouache like watercolour to working with completely undiluted paint for this one; and I decided to dig up the only flat brush I own, because I figured it was no coincidence that flat brushes are what all gouache painters use... and wow.
(From photo reference. That way, I only have to try and match colours and moods, not make my own in an unfamiliar medium.)
I'm still not sure how to do really tiny details, and I'm beginning to suspect the reason why Ted Nasmith, for example, works at such large formats...
I think a gouache Maedhros might be a crowning achievement for MarchofMaedhros, but gosh, I've watched a few gouache portrait videos now and they all lose me two minutes in. O_o
