Quick Art Update

Update of the Update: It's awesome that people seem to like the options so far. (Also, I agree that Ganassa does amazing work!) While all of these artists expressed interest, I can't guarantee they'll actually want to work on the project. It's still in the early phase of discussion. I certainly hope to have some great options for you, just don't get your hopes up too high, okay? ^_^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Busy day today, plenty of work coding. One thing I didn't really appreciate was the amount of effort it would take to find the right artist. I talked about the general criteria for finding an artist in the State of the Game post, so I won't rehash it here.
So while I expected it would take a while to find and contact different artists, I didn't really anticipate the work involved in talking to all of them to answer questions and go over general details about the project, art, and trial commissions. I suppose I could have written a "form response", but to me that seems kind of like a rude and impersonal way to deal with someone you want to work with.
News: Shino has decided not to pursue being the artist for the character portraits section, but is still interested in doing the PC portrait. I've commissioned a trial scene from AlexW95. I've also been in touch with three artists who are interested in working on Accidental Woman. I've put an example of their work in the image above. (from left to right: JustinianKnight, Ganassa, and Arteria)
Hmm, seeing how fast the game is progressing and how much has already been done, it might be better to go with the artist that can dedicate the most time to deliver art, which could be integrated as they get finished. Personally to me the style or the quality would not matter as long as we would have variety. Now of course I would not want to see drawings and paintings of a kindergarten in your game, but I think it would make sense for ThaumX to find someone with equal productivity and free time. Also, don't forget that artist will become better and faster later on.
Arteria would have my first vote and then Ganassa of course.
Tber
amazing
No fucking way, Ganassa's interested?! He's seriously one of my favorite artists, I'd love to see him on this project! It's a win all around - we'd get amazing art, and more people get to find out how awesome he is :D
centerflag982
Yep, that's takami (the doctor) from P5
ThaumX
Ganassa
i vote for the JustinianKnight as artist,
Kitsune
i agree three looks really good
Whisky Priest
Ganassa
The one on left looks like someone from Persona 5...
Ai dude
Guess I'm in the minority here, but my vote would be #3, then #2, then #1.
I know nothing of the artists (I know nothing of the scene in general), but the style employed in pic 3 easily surpasses the others as far as I'm concerned. I think it should work eminently to produce different characters in a cohesive way. I'm not sure how you've imagined the art to function in the game, but in my head it'll play out as having some different "categories" (hair, skin color etc etc) which are mixed and matched based on how the character is supposed to look, thus ending up with something that in all likelihood doesn't look exactly like what is described, but has a similar "feel" to what the character actually look like. Are you going to do something like that, or something else entirely?
Ganassa is a very good artist, but he's also extremely busy. He actively does artwork for more than a couple other projects, so if you do end up going with him, be aware he doesn't have a whole lot of time. He'll get it done, and done well, but potentially a bit slower than the other choices.
First one's a bit too "huge cranium, tiny neck" caricature for my liking. It's a cartoony style. Third one's a bit Silver Age DC Comics. It's reminiscent of all the things <i>Watchmen</i> parodied. Second one's more of a <i>Strangers in Paradise</i> style, with a hint of <i>Misfile</i> in the hair shinies, and I love those books and like that comic very much. The eyes aren't symmetrical and that's bugging me, but of the three Ganassa's is the one I could imagine watching then joining on the dance floor and hoping to kiss a lot. The first wouldn't get within arm's length of her partner and the third would cut from "hello" to coffee the morning after.
Ganassa's a pretty big name so I'm pretty darned happy he's in your list :D he gets my vote
I agree with others; Ganassa's style seems to me like the best one for this game and setting. JustinianKnight comes second for me; that particular sample seems a bit too extreme, proportion-wise, but that doesn't necessarily eliminate all his(?) art.
I too am on the same opinion. All 3 are nice in their own way, but considering the setting, going with Ganassa would be optimal. I am unfamiliar with any of these artists, and my opinion in no way should be viewed by them as criticism.
Sorter
YOU GOT GANASSA! Hands down pick him, I have seen his work for a long time and if he is willing to work on the project and it isn't cost prohibitive then grab him up.
All 3 are interesting. My favorite is the second one from Ganassa. IMHO this particular example from JustinianKnight doesn't suit the game style. I've found Arteria work really interesting ... I would definitely like to see more of his/her work.
MM
I think they all have their merits. One of the things I'll be covering when it's time for the poll is the kind of commission schedule we could expect for each artist. There's a lot of variables, so I'm going to try and summarize it in a nice neat way. It'll also be pretty cool to see some different takes on Lily ^-^
ThaumX
Thanks ^-^ I'm going to be posting the trial commissions for a vote, but I'm glad you like the options so far!
ThaumX
Kind of a toss up for me between JustinianKnight and Ganassa. I think I'd lean a little bit more towards the first one.
Tank
😊 think my favourite art style of the three is number 2 (followed by 1 and 3) ..... If you could get that kind of level for the in-game art? Would be great. Either way hope you get a good artist to work on the game your happy with
