Trying to stick to simple explanations is tough though, and basically involves saying incorrect things to get the idea across. If you have some time and want an updated perspective on the whole "computer" thing, check out this essay by JBQ.
Instead I'm going to post a demo version for Patreon supporters, using the random number test from earlier. You can do the synchronous test, generating 100,000 random numbers and sorting them over the course of several seconds. Then, you can try the asynchronous version doing the same exact thing, that takes a fraction of a second. Then, you can try the insane version, generating ten times the random numbers (1,000,000) and sorting them. It's a lot more numbers, so that version takes a fraction of a second. ;)
