Yes, but the way the talked to the scriptwriter was truly awful and uncalled for. She was in the wrong, even if she felt justified. That's not how you talk to someone, especially in a creative field working in a medium that she had absolutely no idea what works in. A good author doesn't equal a good scriptwriter, in fact, it's quite the opposite

Yes you can tell she doesn’t know much about theater but she did show that she liked the actors and she trusted the process. The only reason she was so mad was because she kept saying for them to fix her characters and it only repeatedly got worse which I this is a valid reason to be mad.

2024-07-22 15:22:28 +0000 UTCI think the mangaka's response to the scriptwriter was so out of pocket not only because she disrespected him as a fellow artist, but she also showed she didn't have much respect for theatre itself if she can't take into account how stories change to adapt to their medium. Things that work in manga (the explosive fight sequences, the small changes in expressions to communicate things, and the inner monologues) are harder to show when you have limited stage space and the audience is pretty far away. But those differences are what makes it such a fun experience!

Like for example, I LOVE Sherrilyn Kenyon the author, she has two major series I love, the adult novels Dark-Hunters series and the YA spin off Chronicles of Nick, which is about one of my favorite main side characters in DH but like.. alternate universe. Anyway, she had a Manga made for DH but it never got past 3 books, and then a TV drama series that also never made it anywhere because SK loves her characters to the point that she thinks of them as separate entities in her head, and as someone who ended up doing the same, there's just simply never gonna be a recreation good enough. Even I can barely control my characters, and I'm not a fully fledged author. She has their appearances picked out on her website and each personality perfectly fleshed out, so I imagine trying to work to rewrite them and the story itself for a tv series and even Manga would be hell. Then same thing happened with the Nick books. One Manga was released and there was talk of a show being made, but it was canceled because they had too hard of a time finding the right actors and making the story as close to the books as possible without making it TV unfriendly. 😮💨 as a fan, I would be upset if it didn't follow the books, but also as a fan, I wouldn't want another Twilight where it was so close to the book it make the first movie ridiculous. But also as a author, I can understand being picky, but as a editor/rewriter if the author is too picky, then it's problematic for the role of the editor/rewriter. Especially with deadlines and all that.. oof.. this is why I don't do it professionally lol I could get my editors certification but nah, I don't think I have what it would take to tell a writer that I don't personally know that something they wrote needed to be changed for the good of the story.
