2024-06-16 04:14:37 +0000 UTCby all means correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge The notion that Vikings were significantly taller than other Europeans of the same era actually a misconception. typically Vikings where around 5 foot 7 whereas the English were around 5 foot 6 and the French where around 5 foot 5 on average. there is obviously always a lot of variation in height for any given group but on average. there really wasn't as significant a size difference as is sometimes suggested.

I understand the struggle of figuring out who to root for, Askeladd is an extremely well written character but he is also a terrible person lol

Thats exactly how the Franks realized they could handle the viking menace: just give the entirety of Normandy to some vikings, and let them defend it against their own kin. Spoiler alert: the descendants of those vikings would later on invade and conquer England, setting the stage for the 100 years war (a vassal of the French king being a king himself). They would also convert to Christianity and be the main force behind the crusades (they never lost their war like culture, just redirected it).
