Re:Zero S2 Episodes 11 & 12

Comments

I think resetting one reality would be simpler than creating a million different realities and jumping between them. So I think by Occam's razor the "unthinkable presents" didn't happen. I hope I'm not coping because that'd be too sad.

Herbie

Oh yeah, The author was asked how a love confession from Echidna would look like and he said that Echidna's speech was the answer (by the way her love confession was WAY WAY WAY longer in the novel XD)

Hombredecultura

W pfps from both of you 🙏

Yellow_Flash

Honestly valid 🤔 id rather die instantly than die though 😬

Yellow_Flash

Echidna Best Girl

The Anime Dude

Oh no idk!

Wes And Steph

But did Echidna want to make a contract with Subaru? Or was being interrupted part of her plan?

Robin Berglund

Ros started beating Subaru is because he assumes he can just reset time whenever so he was trying to force him to do his time reset via pain. he is under the impression he Subaru dies before resetting time the current present would be locked in place instead of the other way around lol

Zinfiny

(Why Ros was beating Subaru up and not killing him) I am pretty sure Ros does not know he returns by death. He has figured out he can reset time, but he probably doenst know its exact mechanics... so since he wants him to loop, he cant kill him, as he probably thinks he has to trigger it some way and doesnt realize its automatically with death

Umbra_Nex

but since season 1 you're already supposed to know the information is in re:zero breaktime they should watch it

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

As the seasons progress, the show provides enough information to understand. For example, in these episodes we see Reinhard pulverize Puck (true form) easily. That's information. Perfectly understood by Wes and Steph, by the way.

GTB

Guys, come on. I do not want to spoil anything, but Reinhard is van Astrea.

Anime Weekly

You mean up until now at least? How can you know it wouldn’t become a topic in later seasons? Even spinoffs might be possible with a show this popular. As I said, I don’t really mind a bit of information here and there, but some people literally spoil the whole life story of a character is just crazy. Patreon could really make use of spoiler tags for the comment section. That way, you could share a bit more without spoiling it for people who don’t want to know.

Rockycitygirl

the show is not showing or explaining it that's the problem

Fenronin (Dorian Dubourg)

Papi Martini 🍸

Good way to word it without spoiling anything 🫡

David Case

Personally I would delete this, and let them figure out the powerscaling on their own, as even that can ruin the tension and mystery. Wes, Steph, if you're reading this, please stop here. Now, I might not really have to worry about this being spoilers considering it's not really correct. Tappei Nagatsuki himself said that a fight between Satella and Reinhard would end in a draw, so they're about tied for strongest. Not Reinhard above Satella.

David Case

I have heard (correct me if I’m wrong)that the author stated that Subaru likes both Rem JUST as much as she likes Emilia. Equally. The only reason why he has chosen Emilia is because of his pre conceived bias of him liking white haired girls as we see in the flashback in the parents episode when he was the poster and figurines of white hair anime girls from different (actual) animes. As well as Emilia being there for Subaru in the very beginning. She never killed Subaru or gave Subaru trauma. Emilia did it first and that’s why Subaru made her his first. Which I think is very cruel that the author is even doing that. Why are you making my poor girl Rem suffer 😭😭. I get the author likes Emilia but why are you tryna put rem into 2nd place knowing that’s she’ll never be #1. Breaks my heart 😾.

Garkham

I an so glad that Subaru didn’t become a harem protagonist, Beatrice really likes Subaru from what I gathered, but I never felt there was anything romantic about it. Feel really bad for Rem as I like Rem with Subaru more, but if that’s not her fate, I hope she moves on and doesn’t tie her fate with Subaru forever.

Devilmaycry- Joker

I just thought the same when I saw some of the comments. I don’t know the power levels either, and if they’re revealed in the show, please don’t spoil it. It’s fine to tell me that he’s "super strong," but going into specifics might be too much already.... like you don’t have to rank the characters or tell me he is godly overpowered thats something you can do at the end of the show.

Rockycitygirl

About the strengh of the characters, how about letting Steph & Wes find out that by themselves? As we did...

GTB

In case you haven't caught on yet, it is commonly said by fans that Reinhard is the strongest being in this world.

butcher

was just kind of joking since Elsa doesn’t seem to be beatable so far. I don’t really know how strong they are, but Reinhard seems to be a monster on his own.

Rockycitygirl

Saul Harrison-coupe

Exactly like that 😂

Papi Martini 🍸

Reinhard is a bit (a lot) more powerful than Elsa lol

Renegade

Remember what Roswaal told Subaru to say to Beatrice a couple episodes ago? "I am that person."

Renegade

Roswal never loved Ram, he is just a creep.

Devilmaycry- Joker

May as well say this now by the way, I’ve spoken about the if novels before which are alternative routes of Subaru’s story. The author wrote If Greed which is where Subaru actually takes Echidna’s deal and we’re told he dies 100 million times.

Moroni W

The anime is less obvious than the light novel about the fact that solitude (without Puck, without Subaru, without anyone) for several days and the trauma of the trial and her repeated failures at it have led to this mind-broken Emilia. Emilia's greatest fear is being alone. Season 2 will be an important one for/about Emilia. Echidna hasn't really changed here. She acts as she has since the beginning, she has no ill intentions. Selfish isn't the word either (she really wants to help Subaru). We just understand that she has a different logic. Her connection to others is not based on emotion, but on knowledge. (We've also seen that Daphne's logic is based around hunger, as she explains why she created the 3 greatest mabeasts.) We can see that Subaru can't get Echidna's logic, and Echidna, who is telling him the whole truth, doesn't understand what's wrong to him with the contract she's offering. Like many other Re:Zero characters, it's not a simple question of being good or evil :). The next ep is gonna be...something! Can't wait ! ps: the “That person” thing for Beatrice doesn't imply that it has to be a romantic love.

GTB

Also, Elsa vs. Reinhard endboss fight? Seems like both are OP, lol.

Rockycitygirl

Even though it's apparently just a possibility, I never even considered the fact that Subaru might be leaving behind "his old reality," where everyone has to continue living on after he dies or kills himself. Just thinking about it is so crazy and makes everything even worse - a real WTF moment for me, to be honest.

Rockycitygirl

Interesting light novel detail, When the great rabbit comes it’s said that the villagers gathered in one of the building and burned themselves to death so they wouldn’t be eaten by the horde

Moroni W

To remind what Roswaal said was his goal, or not to remind.. 😅 Echidna's character is one of my top favs. I love moral conundrums and grey area characters and hers and one other's were done soooo well in this show. So excited for when you guys get to the end and see some of the webs author has been spinning. Also really excited to get answers myself about some things from the next season. You're guys' theories and also some clues I'm picking up from rewatch is giving me new ideas.

Chels

such a good episode

marco

It's like exploring every area in a videogame before moving to the next lmao Wow I can relate to Echidna so much more

Loro Lukic

Been waiting all week for this reaction!

Zachary Ngo

Had a good cuckle at 40:59 , because I had the opposite question 😂 I still remember Subaru's rant about Reinhard in Isekai Quartett to Kazuma & co.

Peter Butchens

Pretty sure it was Emilia just from their word choice to say "I love you" to Subaru. Satella used the very very over the top way 愛してる("aishiteru") and Emilia used 大好き("daisuki") which is much more common and reasonable way to say it to your first love interest

Honeybadger

Also Beatrice isn’t looking for someone romantically per se. Someone that’s gonna be there for her, prioritize her. After 400 years of solitude, she wants “that” person to choose her as her first.

Garkham

You guys are doing such a good job at analyzing this. On my first watch I was way too lost. One thing I will say is that the author did a very good job of portraying Echidna as a “ good” in Subarus eyes. Subaru, in the earlier episode, said that’s chid was better than the other witches (most normal). The setting in itself, green plains, blue sky, calming area. Chid is able to share in the RBD. Chid gives Subaru the ability to face the trials himself. Nudging him little by little to use the RBD very recklessly, trying to get him to form the contract.

Garkham

Episode 11 broke me. The revelations. The speculations. The betrayal. Glad you were as stunned. For example, in 15:50 you have Satella's aura in Subaru's eyes reflection. And while I think that was still Emilia, perhaps it meant she was falling so much into despair she changed to her? Or became like her, which reminded Subaru of Satella? I truly don't know. Even now, rewatching it for the first time in a long time, I still can't fully wrap my head around that episode. You dealt with it a lot better than me and had some good theories. And Episode 12... that one broke me in a different way. For me at least, it had one of the most horrifying episodes with the first half. Because I had the same fear as you said Subaru probably had. The tea party was very interesting and cool though! As for Beatrice's situation, I'm not even mad at Echidna. She was just truly curious. As Subaru said, with no malice. She feels more like an alien wanting to understand humans. Her contract offer too, she just wants to experience the world through Subaru, not caring about any consequences. Also, it was Beatrice who couldn't make up her mind for 400 years, so I can't blame her too much. Now, as for "that person", I don't think she or echidna were referring to a lover. But since she's a great spirit (at least that was what she was called a few episodes ago), perhaps a contractor, like Emilia is for Puck.

Peter Butchens

Oh yes, the Echidna monologue is crazy. Iirc it’s even longer in the novels and I love how they delivered it here making Echidna more of a witch than the others when we originally thought she’s very different, too different from how we envisioned the witches are. This tea party and the one after this is a crazy event and can’t wait for the next one. Despite of how twisted Echidna is, I’m surprised a lot of people are still down bad towards her despite of everything that happened here.

Most Sane Oreimo Fan

However strong you think Reinhard is, he's stronger.

Adam Pitcher

Also when Beatrice says she wants “someone to love her,” she is expressing a deep yearning for unconditional, familial-like love and acceptance. She isn’t specifically referring to romantic love but rather to someone who would choose her, stay by her side, and value her as an individual, no matter what. And the reason Beatrice has been stuck there for 400 years is because she doesn’t know that she gets to choose who “that person” is, Echidna made her believe that “that person” will come and choose her.

Papi Martini 🍸

The author of ReZero releases a WHAT-IF story occasionally on Subarus birthday where it shows what would happen if Subaru did something different. The Greed Route is where Subaru accepts Echidna’s contract. In this timeline, Echidna manipulates Subaru into exploring every possible outcome by forcing him to make all the wrong choices before finally guiding him to the correct one. This results in Subaru dying over 100 million times, making him numb to death and turning him into a soulless, broken person. It’s basically Echidna using Subaru as a tool to satisfy her insatiable curiosity.

Papi Martini 🍸

oh wes. You sweet summer child. This show causes trust issues to whomever watches it. haha.. I felt the same way with Echidna with a hint of suspicion but her charm and smooth words tend to overwrite it lol. Again, great reaction from the both of you. Can't wait for more!!!

Daniel Huitron

Reinhardt is ridiculously op

Papi Martini 🍸

Echidna's contract basically "you can use me, so I can use you." Echidna will grant Subaru everything he needs. Comfort, wisdom, love.. whatever he needs to successfully push through any problem he faces. But at the same time.. she will use Subaru's Return by Death to experience every possibility possible to satisfy her greed for knowledge. So essentially she's gonna make him suffer for her own desires before giving him the future he wants. Imagine it like a video game or visual novel. You're struggling to win the game, but you meet this entity of knowledge who might know the ways to win. But instead of showing you the straight forward path, they push you down EVERY possible route (good and bad) just so they could experience it before finally getting you to the true ending.

Reuben Filimaua

Roswaal is basically telling Subaru to go down the path of "the ends justify the means." He's telling Subaru to make use of his Return by Death power to attain the future he wants. But by doing so he must throw away his own life and the lives of others for the sake of his goal. Subaru is doing everything for Emilia, right? So Roswaal is saying to cling to that one desire, use and throw away everything else for the sake of that desire.. and you become someone like Roswaal. Someone so detached from his own humanity with a one track mind on his goals. To not care about his own life and whether he uses anyone else. That is truly insane. I don't want Subaru to turn out like that. Someone so willing to use his own life and the lives of other people he loves as a tool for his own gain.

Reuben Filimaua

one mistake ure making is assuming beatrice is looking for a lover, she just thinks theres someone whos supposed to take over the library and she has to watch over it until that person comes, she doesnt necessarily have to be romantically involved with that persom

"I trust Echidna" - moments before disaster

smajdalf

Yes, I am pretty sure that was the real Emilia in the trial chamber. She was just mind broken after doing the trial over and over again, without Subaru to be there for her, and then everyone turned against her. Though, I wonder if she was influenced by something. Probably not Satella, but maybe failing the trial doesn't come without a price, and when you do it as many times as she did, this is the outcome. But it seems she's essentially in a state of denial that anything could be bad. Even when Subaru is bleeding to death in front of her, she still won't accept that there is anything that could bring her pain, as a defense-mechanism from all the trauma she went through during the trial. This is all speculation, though, I haven't read the novels.

Iriza

ep 11 is one of my personal favorites, such a good ep
