Re:Zero Episodes 21 & 22

You frequently get this wrong, so imma put it here: Puck is NOT as strong as you make him out to be. There are quite a few regular humans that could beat him in a fight. Him ending the world is only possible because it's stipulated to happen in the event of Emilia's death, in his contract. Special circumstance. So yes, if sb made the mistake of killing Emilia first, they are toast. Otherwise... not so clear cut.

I enjoy listening to all the theory-crafting you two do and realize its all part of the fun and have no intention to spoil anything. There is one thing I'd like to clear up though. Whenever the topic of Beatrice's "That Person" comes up, you always talk about how she's seeking "a lover", since she stated she wanted someone who "loved her above everyone else." However, that's not quite right. If you asked someone who they love the most in life some people would say that its their wife, however, others would answer their children, parents, siblings, or even a close friend. She just wants to be coddled as someone's #1. In other words, she just wants someone who would never leave her. I.E. A child might leave their parents in order to seek a lover and start a family. In which case the priority of "love" might shift from the parents, to the lover, to the child.

Emilia is the daughter of the witch, however Tappei confirmed that Emilia's mother is human, so Emilia isn't Satella's daughter You are right about Emilia being kept in the dark, Tappei made the entire story of Re:zero because of Emilia, she is the actual main character of the world (as originally planned), however Subaru makes for a much more interesting way to tell the story so he is the protagonist we follow Oh, only those with mixed blood (and those who Echidna fancies like Subaru) can do the trial, those who aren't accepted get "rejected", which means the place will hurt them with their own gate/mana. Since Roswaal is crazy strong he got REALLY hurt, and since Subaru is an "average" guy (when it comes to mana quantity) and had his gate DANGEROUSLY close to breaking (PERMANENTLY) he "got off easy" with just a massive headache and pain all over, enough to make an man puke Well rather than temptation the trials only require acceptance: accept your past, accept your present (Subaru failed cause he is not mentally prepared to even entertain the very real possibility that EVERY time he failed, he has left his dearest friends and loved ones to horrible disaters he can't save them from) and acceptance of what may happen. Even if Echidna disagrees with you, you win by accepting things as they are

Love the reaction Wes and Steph!! Just to clear up some forgotten information n stuff just so that there's no holes, Puck is a very strong character, but you saw in Subaru's second trial, Reinhardt completely vaporized Puck out of existence with one slice of his sword. So Reinhardt is on another level compared to Puck (who is capable of destroying the world). Regarding the Warlock, it's the Warlock of Melancholy, Hector. Warlocks and Witches are exactly the same, except the name is different because Warlock is the male version of Witch in this case. Also, it may seem confusing since there's 7 sins, but in actuality, there's 9 sins. People don't know this but Melancholy and Vainglory are one of the ancient/historical sins (you can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_deadly_sins#Historical_sins). So there's actually 9 sins and Re:Zero uses them all. We know that Pandora is still out there, even in present time which is why there's no archbishop of vainglory, but we don't know what's happened to Hector. It's speculated he died with Echidna in their fight but it's unknown. Also just for a piece of information, just because someone has an authority of a sin, doesn't make them an archbishop. Just like how Subaru has the authority of Envy (Return by Death), and authority of Sloth (Invisible Providence), yet he's not an archbishop. So there could be someone out there with the authority of Pride, or the authority of Melancholy, but that doesn't mean they are part of the witch cult as a sin archbishop. Also had to fix up the issue with Beatrice and Roswaal. They are NOT apart of the witch cult, they have the true gospels that tell the future for the beholders, but those books are different than what the sin archbishops/members of the witch cult have. Roswaal's and Beatrice's books are the real ones, personally made by Echidna, for them that tell the true future. All other books are incomplete and not real. Lastly, this was never mentioned in the anime but it is in the LNs, but Roswaal didn't help in the destruction of Rem and Ram's village. He just had future knowledge it would happen because of his gospel. Although he's still a bad guy for not stopping it from happening since he knew it'd happen. He just picked up Rem and Ram from the village because the book told him to.

Ya'll, ever since it was mentioned, I've been thinking about Archi being Puck and re-watching the end of the Present sequence, I'm even more convinced! It's subtle, but there's a moment where they compare Archi to Puck, both visually and verbally when Emilia is looking at Archi then says "you were always there for me.. just like Puck.." then she goes on to list everyone who's been helping her, but in that moment, they compared their faces together and they look the same! Lol maybe it's copium, but I'm believing it. Also, you guys are probably more right than me about Echidna (Ek-kid-na btw lol Wes, where did the id go?) About her being relaxed to the poky creature 😂 I was thinking of the Greek Echidna, who was half woman, half viper. Some legends say she was cursed by Athena, while others paint her as being born as a monster from Ceto, the primordial sea-goddess (for those who don't know, there were 3 layers of gods, 2 before the Olympians. Primordials, Titans, then Olympians, so that would make Echidna a Goddess rather than a monster. Monsters were born from Scylla, yet everyone after the worship of Olympians, talked about Echidna as if she were a monster. I think it could have some relationship to this show's Echidna, but I like the poky-cuddler more 🤣 Cute. This has 0 relation to the show, but it's something that tickles my brain. The "Devil of (whatever)" supposed to be "Warlock of (whatever)" thing.. that would ALSO be a mistranslation. The correct word would be Mage, even though it doesn't sound as spooky lol. Not only does Japan not have the concept of "witch, wizard, warlock" in their language, and therefore are using a word that represents the Asian version of mages/magic-users, but a lot of people don't know that "Warlock" is the offensive version of "Wizard" and "Wizard" is a fantasized version of a male witch. No male modern witch calls themselves Wizard or Warlock, because of how embarrassing Wizard sounds, and Warlock, while the etymology is complicated, is referring to those of the coven who betray the coven to the church. The word Warlock means "oath-breaker" and stems from the even older, "Wærloga" meaning "liar" as opposed to the "witch" or "wiccae" term meaning "wise-one" or "soothsayer" basically referring to anyone who practiced magic-medicine similar to shamanism. I jokingly say "Jesus was a witch" because he did all of what you would've seen witches doing, healing with chants and herbs. The full explanation of witchcraft is waaaaay too much so I'm not going to get into it. If anyone wants me to delve more, lmk. But so ya, Warlock is offensive to modern practitioners of Witchcraft and Wicca (or any Pagans, really) since it lit. means "betrayer of your kind" Perhaps it is appropriate for the character in the show? Lol anyone know enough about this Mage to answer if he's similar to Satella and kills other witches?

Actually further than that, one of the clauses in the contract she had with Puck was that she would not look at her own reflection, to protect her. Now that her contract is ruptured, she could actually do it in the Trial without repercussions

Since we reached far enough, I can finally say that Roswaal and Ram feel like a prisoner (Ram) having a Stockholm syndrome to their abuser aka Roswell. Also Roswaal gives groomer’s vibe to me, since he basically raised Rem and Ram, then Ram develops romantic feelings for him, and he doesn’t reject it or point out how messed up this is with him basically being a step father figure to them. Those two always gave me the ick, I literally get grossed out thinking of how much Ram has fallen for him. Proof:- ( not mentioning wanting revenge against him, and wanting to “save him” ) This is not normal feelings to have towards the one that butchered your family and village according to him.

"But like Echidna said, she didn't expect Betty to take so long. This is as much Betty's fault as Echidna's." I always liked that Subaru doesn't necessarily blame Echidna because she accidentally made Beatrice wait forever. He specifically chooses to stand against Echidna because when he asks her how she feels about it, Echidna thinks it's great. Echidna: "Of course, her staying there for years without choosing anyone is one result of that. Her inability to choose anyone so easily all this time and wanting to die as she agonized over whether to keep upholding the contract or not are also results of that." Subaru: "And how do you feel about that?" Echidna: "I think it's wonderful." Subaru: "Echidna... You are a witch! You're an unfathomable monster beyond all comprehension! And I... I won't take your hand."

D B

Yeah, it's a shame they weren't able to set it up more in the show, but the plot of both S1 and S2 is jam packed as it is, so I understand why some of those smaller details didn't make it in.

D B

Roswaal conflates inaction with his own culpability for what happened to Rem and Ram's village. That's always been interesting to me about his character. In his eyes, by doing nothing HE was the one who destroyed their homeland.

D B

just want to clarify about the part where rossawal said he s the man responsible for the destruction of ram homeland << this is just rossawal being weridly feel responsible? for that event , the truth is , he know that the village will be attacked , and while he can tell the village (they probably won t believe him anyway) or stop the witch cult himself , he didn t , and only swoop in at the last minute to save ram and rem , probably because the book said so

banlungx001

But Echidna likes Subaru, sooo lol

Renegade

Just some neat history for you... while currently there are the "seven deadly sins" that everyone knows, in the past there were nine. Vainglory and Melancholy were also listed along with the seven that we know today. Those were later consolidated into Pride (vainglory) and... Sloth (melancholy) I believe. So Pandora and Hector do fit into the Deadly Sins theme taking into account the original sins.

Umbra_Nex

Hey just to clarify we already knew roswall was involved in the destructions of Rams village but he wasnt one of the people in hoodsattacking the demons the attack took place on his land and he knew it would happen because of the tome of wisdom but allowed the attack to take place so in a roundabout way he killed her village. Also being bigger doesnt mean garfiel is gonna be better at one on one fighting. And the reason Roswall got hurt when he attempted the trial is because he did not have echidnas blessing to take the trial in the first place so he got injured by the barrier not letting him do the trial not by failing his attempt of the trial like emilia.

Lucas Tobin

Hey guys, season 2 episode 12 - puck was killed by reinhard. Even though puck's power may seem apocalyptic, the author wanted to show us that puck won't be able to destroy the world as long as reinhard is there to defeat him.

Lye Batenkaitos

Just to let you know - there are 3 episodes left in this season and episode 1 of the next season is I think an hour or so long.

Moroni W

I agree but subaru said the same thing when he did the first trial

Shakir

Also I have a theory on why Echidna was crying. I think she really doesn't like Emilia but Emilia THANKING her for the trial really touched her heart. If you really think about it these trials are basically hyper aggressive therapy sessions designed to make you a better person and help you move past trauma. But I imagine that most people think of it as torture instead. Echidna created this trial designed to help people and I'll bet Emilia is the only person to ever THANK her for it

KeanuofRivia

So about the Mirror and the water. This was apparently skipped content and is never stated in the anime but Emilia has never liked seeing her reflection. It always made her feel anxiety without remembering why. So her facing her own reflection in the water is equivalent to accepting herself!

KeanuofRivia

15:24 You literally saw Puck being killed by Reinhard in Subaru's second trial... Edit: Echidna is above all a god/monster in Greek mythology (the mother of a lot of famous monsters, like Cerberus), half woman half reptile. The animal from Australia got that name because back then explorers just saw a mammal that laid eggs (like a reptile). Even if it's not the only one. Several witches have mythological names: Typhon was the strongest monster in greek mythology, Sekhmet the Egyptian goddess of destruction, Minerva is the Roman equivalent of Athena, the greek Goddess of war/wisdom/justice, and Daphne was a nymph in greek mythology. I dont think Satella and Carmilla are from myths though. And even the other ones mentioned above don't seem to be based on their mythological equivalent, they just have the same name apparently. So thinking about it, maybe your theory about Echidna being metaphorically based on the animal is true.

Fabien

Ahh yes, there’s god tier characters and the one above that is just… him… 😮‍💨

8:42 Roswaal said a lot of things that were technically right, but said them in the worst possible way and not explaining the reasoning behind them. 11:00 I like how Emilia holds Ram's hands throughout, seemingly more concerned with Ram than her own feelings. It's like that time after a trial, when the only time she was able to pull through in past loops was when she saw others suffering more. 11:40 While I do think the words affected her, I think Emilia could tell by the end of his speech that Roswaal is only saying these things to rile her up. And then tries to look into the matter of why he said it, instead of what said. Trying to get a grip on his personality and perhaps find a way to save him as she promised Ram. 12:57 That's gotta me favourite Emilia quote so far "I'll turn the lies into wishes." Slowly she is making her way to a proper queen candidate. And although not quite our Queen Crush's level, she is showing growth! 31:19 Aaand cue flashback/edit back to your earlier reactions about him 😂 37:13 THIS, oh my god so much that. I understand Echidna is pretty warped for doing that. But like Echidna said, she didn't expect Betty to take so long. This is as much Betty's fault as Echidna's. 39:26 I was just about to say that. 😂 This is why I love your reactions to this! You put a lot of thought onto this. Sure you sometimes overthink into crazy stuff (which i love, too), but that's what I like about watching this together with you guys. 40:49 Originally I was hoping Subaru would chose to be "that person" for her, but your way of putting it is MUCH better. *edit* at it looks like Subaru seems to think similar, too haha 40:35 Emilia called herself the witch of ice, so maybe that counts too? Perhaps it is nothing more than a title, called after their powers? (PS: I didn't quite catch what you said there at 40:36 is the ninth). 53:50 Same. I wonder how you'd look at S1 if you every were going to do a rewatch once you've caught up with the anime. 1:02:26 Yeah, unfortunately. But that's why I'm looking forward all the more to her growth.
