Steins;Gate Episode 13

Comments

Man, during the scene at 24:33, I just realised as Okabe details how the bomb threat closed the trains, and Mayuri furrows her brow as she responds "I see...", she must have realised in that moment that Okabe knew the future to have been so prepared to use the Subway, and that subsequently he used the Time Leap machine despite announcing he wouldn't, and of all things, he's using it to drag Mayuri out of the City. I thought her following lines were originally about her confusion at Okabe for forcing the trip, but in actuality, it seems she was very astute and realised Okabe was time-travelling and keeping the truth from her, which is the thing that seems to worry her the most in this show. She has a surprising degree of awareness that, despite having lived an entire reality with Okabe in her own world line, they aren't really together anymore because due to Okabe's memory phenomenon, his memories of home belong on a different world line to hers.

This is why i love watching you guys. Some of the wildest theories ive heard 😆

Both are pretty well liked.

I don't think they meant any disrespect, the Japanese dub is very beloved. The changes they make to phrasing in the English dub does make it a bit easier to understand, I would agree. I think it'd be too jarring for them to switch languages at this point though, I'm sure they're fine sticking to the Japanese dub.

Maki-se* no "ey" sound. Just cut it, and you got it 👍 her name is written まきせ, not まきせい. Otherwise I prefer to call her KURISUTIIIIINA!!

How tf? Steins gate Japanese dub is like, iconic

I’m so glad you guys are enjoying this show so much! This show is so insanely well written I can’t wait to see how you guys react to this unfolding! It’s interesting to see just how different your theories are! Also btw Makise’s name is pronounced (Maki-Say) and Mayuri is (My-Uri)

I love this show, but I think the DUB is so much better. It’s easier to understand and the translations are more clear. I think you guys might have misunderstood some things going on/being said because of the “wording” that they use in sub. Just my thoughts tho😅

The timeline wills her death to be so, it seems.

A little piece of information missing from the vn, Mayuri's parents were always busy with work, so her grandmother basically raised her which makes it especially more difficult. After her death, Mayuri entered a state of depression and did not speak to anyone for 6 months. Afraid Mayuri would leave, Okabe turn himself into the mad scientist to prevent her from leaving.

That is a fun interesting concept you bring regarding the origin of the Hououin Kyouma mad scientist persona being a creation of an older Okabe who became the insane villain mad scientist obsessed with saving Mayuri, sending his memories back in time and it manifests into this harmless persona he does for fun. But as of right now.. this episode shows us the current canon origin of the Hououin Kyouma mad scientist persona and "the hostage." Turns out it all started as a coping mechanism for both of them. The mad scientist persona was Okabe's way of conveying his feelings of love and care for Mayuri because he was too insecure to show it normally lol. Thinking of his mad scientist antics he has been keeping up in this light makes it more heartwarming tbh haha. He's too shy to convey his warm feelings so he shows it in this weird way that most won't understand. Sure most of the time its for fun and kicks, but I also see it as a social coping mechanism cos he's so socially awkward. The "hostage" situation was also a coping mechanism for Mayuri to cheer her up and give her emotional support in her process of grief and loss. Also her weird "reaching the hand to the sky" pose now carries deeper meaning with this context of her reaching out to her grandmother. The fact she still does it shows she's always still thinking of her. Mayuri telling Okabe last episode "I don't have to be your hostage anymore," carries some deeper meaning. It suggests that Mayuri being his hostage never was for her sake. I mean it was at first, but she has since overcome her grief and is fine. She also has her cosplay friends now so she's happier, but from what Mayuri said.. Okabe seemed to only have her as a friend up til recently. Which means she stuck by him so closely and kept up the hostage dynamic for him so he wouldn't be alone and lonely. But now that he has met and found so many lab mems around him now.. so she doesn't need to be his hostage anymore. Theeeen she was shot in the face right in front of him. These two are too much 😂 I love them both and root for Okabe to save Mayuri!

Still get goosebumps with how they directed last scene.

Some really wild theories 😂😂. I’m glad you guys understand how freaked out okabe is, and it’s probably cause you guys are watching Rezero rn 😭. Like imagine how hard it is when you have this Hououin kyoma, joking, chunni , troll persona while time leaping and trying to explain to people that he traveled back in time. Would you take that seriously?

Lark

"42 CRT. Its on." Suzuha was saying the TV downstairs is now on. She left in a rush last episode to turn the TV on, since its the lifter for the Phonewave/Time Leap Machine to work. How she knew that I don't know 😂

Fun fact, this day that Okabe repeated twice (so far?) is August 13th 2010 which happened to be a Friday.
