Vinland Saga S2 Episode 4

I didn't check the other comments so if I'm repeating someone, my bad lol but while I agree with Wesley, about Einar's mom not at least doing something, when he says "they didn't do anything, not even moved. They could've went to London where they had walls" that actually wouldn't be possible for them. Einar's family were Norse who settled in England during the peace treaty before England broke the deal and killed villages of the settlers, leading to the invasion Thorfinn was a part of. During the period Einar grew up in, they were unwelcome in England, since the first attack was done by the English soldiers (2nd was the Norse/Danes group) but they were also unwelcome in Scandinavia even if they could get back there (except for Iceland which many did not know of) even if they moved deeper into the woods or up a mountain anywhere else around England, they would end up on someone's land or territory and getting killed, but they likely wouldn't have had the means or ability to move regardless since their stores of food were likely stolen, along with any carts, horses, or other supplies. They would first need to rebuild what they had before they could move. So no matter which way you look at it, they were stuck where they were and would've been raided regardless because they were "Danes" and "traitors" But I do think they should have trained and learn to fight. Shore up their defenses and such instead of sitting complacent when they knew that they wouldn't be protected by any governing party.

2024-11-10 00:37:09 +0000 UTC3. Einars mom likely wouldn't have been able to move to any city as they would have been untrusting of any danes, and by untrusting I mean they would have killed/imprisoned them. They had no other choice really than to go back to farming, and even when rumors of war would abound they wouldn't have expected the vikings to attack them

The village was resettled and because they were part danes they didn't expect to be attack by the vikings, however the vikings(who were the ones attacking the second time) didn't really care about that only wanting the plunder even though the villagers were the ones they were supposedly avenging.

They(einars family) were danes(vikings) who went there peacefully on land given to the vikings during a prace treaty by the english king ( if I remember correctly it was payment for mercenary services) decades later the later english king wanted the land back attacking the viking civilians there.(first time their village was attacked)

2024-11-08 20:54:22 +0000 UTCOut of all the episodes for the season, this episode and the previous episode were definitely anticipated episodes because of how we see Thorfinn as he is now, and his interaction with Snake.

2024-11-08 05:57:12 +0000 UTCTo be fair, Einar’s mom was a medieval peasant woman. If everyone from the sticks in the medieval times had just moved to London or the big cities, it would have become overwhelmed with population growth and instability. These people are also farmers, they wouldn’t really know what to do in the big cities. Their whole lives have been inside of their villages, their ancestors and families have been from the same area or nearby. They’re literally tied to the lands they’re born in. I can’t blame them for not moving, life goes on and they just have to deal with what’s been presented to them. If the local lord didn’t protect them, then they just died. Sorry for the long comment lol

2024-11-08 05:55:46 +0000 UTCI think traveling would be just as, if not more dangerous than staying there after rebuilding. They probably don’t have a horse so they can’t take a lot, if any, of their stuff. Not a lot of money either, so they would have to ration food between the 3 of them. They wouldn’t have a place to sleep at night if the trip is more than 1 day, they could succumb to the elements, get sick. They could run into raiders and or bandits on their travel and still get killed or raped or taken and sold as a slave. And even if they were to make it to the city would they have money to stay somewhere, there’s no guarantee of a job, would people be willing to help them out?

2024-11-07 18:52:39 +0000 UTCJust as the author wrote Askeladd's character for Thorfinn, he wrote Einar's character for the same reason. Also, I'm glad you guys are enjoying this season so far. There was a quite of few people who were going into season 2 expecting fighting and action, and they ended up being disappointed and started dropping the show. You two already know and appreciate the emotional exploration and themes that the Vinland Saga story has to offer.

2024-11-07 18:26:12 +0000 UTCthe mom was the only smart one in that family. she told them to not look back and keep running and when she got hit she told them to leave her and run. they ignored her and gave up any possibility of escape
