In a usual story it would be impossible to have a character like this exist and for the plot to remain interesting but somehow Tappei (the author) finds ways to make Reinhard not an instant win for any situation and I find that brilliant.

But what he actually says is "You're exactly what I expected, big brother." Whether that means anything important is up to you but they just didn't translate the "Nii-sama" part of that sentence

The best translation would be just "brother" or whatever makes it sound more formal. In English, just saying "brother" would be the formal way of addressing your brother, as where casually, "bro," or calling your brother by name, would be informal. "Lord brother" would be "Shu kyōdai" but nobody actually says that. There is no such thing in English or Japanese. The closest thing to that would "aniue" (maybe with sama?) which directly translates to "brother above" basically meaning brother of higher standing, but would probably be translated as "elder brother" or still just as "older brother" or just "brother." Isn't Japanese fun? There's so many ways to say "brother." you got "onii-san," "onii-chan" "onii-sama" "nii-san" "nii-chan" "nii-sama" "nii" "ani" "aniue" "aniki" "nii-nii" and I'm sure there is more! 😂 "shu kyōdai" is not one of them, though.

The only reason why he can't kill her is because of her authority making her immortal. When it comes to pure power and hax and stuff, Reinhardt is stronger.

How Otto escaped from Gluttony = White Dragon's Scale (Kiritaka's bodyguard) – Otto mentioned this in the previous ep. 2. What’s Emilia’s plan = In the novel, she actually took a stance, ready to fight Regulus after rejecting him. But the anime made her look like she’s just standing there, waiting to die for no reason lol. 3. Why Julius stated his name = Cut content. Before they met Roy, Julius told Ricardo he felt weird ever since fighting Roy on the rooftop, Like Roy already knew him really well. So, they assumed someone they know already got their memories eaten by Gluttony. = Julius is the finest knight and super strict about knightly customs, so he always states his name before a fight. 4. Roy did call Julius "Brother" but Crunchyroll mistranslated it at 45:35.

Nii-sama or onii-sama is only a reverential way to refer to one's older brother, and is specifically what Joshua calls Julius. Roy calls most people "onii-san" but calls only Julius "nii-sama".

They can always go back and fix it later, cause it's subscription-based and not owned locally where they wouldn't be able to just fix it, so they're not that concerned about it. Doesn't help people who watch stuff when it airs, though. That's just my guess though. I dont know if they actually fix it later. It's things like this that makes people choose fan subs. But of course crunchyroll doesn't let you choose your own subtitle tracks, forcing people to pirate the anime itself, too...

The content's audio has been increased and your voices have been decreased. I remember a previous comment mentioning the audio is too low so maybe that was why it was adjusted, haha. It makes it a bit hard to hear you speaking, when the show is loud like this episode 41:05~41:17 You have to strain your ears to hear you. But the subtitles just translated it as "you" Also, I think Julius knew not to mention his name, but as a knight he felt compelled to do so, and he was probably confident enough he was going to win.

Having Emilia pose like she's just gonna stand there and take the attack, instead of squaring up to defend herself. Cos yeea the way the anime executed it, makes you question - umm Emilia so what exactly was your plan? What were you trying to achieve there? Were you trying to show the wives that they shouldn't be silenced and just take the abuse? But I think just standing there to take the hit after saying all that defeats the purpose, no?

The Archbishop of Gluttony fighting Julius said something that caught his attention after he fired his attack at him. Gluttony said something along the lines of "you really are as splendid as I imagined, big brother." There's a theory that Gluttony ate Joshua's (Julius' younger brother) memories. Cos where has he been this whole time? We haven't seen him since Episode 1. Something to "possibly" back up this theory, is the Archbisbishop of Gluttony talking to Otto. His dialogue and bashful behavior talking about Subaru as "their hero"... sounds and feels ALOT like Rem. Which raises the question - does Gluttony consume the memories of their victims as a part of themselves? Meaning something in their personalities shifts to take on certain aspects of their victims. There's NO concrete evidence of any of this btw. Just something to think about lol.

2025-02-19 22:29:15 +0000 UTCWhen Subaru tells Reinhard that he was going to cover any deficiency he had, Reinhard is surprised because no one had ever told him that, everyone sees Reinhard as someone perfect / as the perfect weapon, that's why he tells him that he surely sees it as a triviality but for him it is something that no one had ever told him and much less see him as a weapon, but as someone else / as a friend (if the text seems strange it's because it's not my native language but it was something I wanted to comment on)
