My dad's like Jay's dad but not in a mean way and doesn't talk down just takes piss and is open to talk about anything

All the music has changed, in this episode, will even mentions Simon’s ring tone being leona Lewis but in this version it wasn’t her

samuel

If you love Wills character you have to start watching Friday night dinner, it’s another British classic with will in it

Maddy

As other have said, we use a mix of metric and imperial units in the UK and there is a pretty clear generational gap. The older generations tend to use imperial a lot more than the young'uns. For example, older people will still use stone to measure weight but I've never heard anyone of my generation use anything other than kg. However, speed and distance are pretty universally measured in miles and miles per hour. That's probably because all of our road signs and speedometers are measured in miles. If we assume that the speedometer was accurate, which I highly doubt on a car that old and shit, they were going 100mph which is 160kph. I remember a couple episodes ago when Simon got his car you were saying you thought all cars looked like that in the UK. In case you're not aware, that type of car is called a hatchback and while they are very common due to how convenient they are in the tight spaces of European cities, there are definitely good ones and bad ones. Simon's car would be considered a bit of a shitbox, but for a first car I'm not sure most people would be expecting much more than that. The most popular hatchbacks in the UK would include things like VW Polo, VW Golf, Vauxhall Corsa, Ford Fiesta, Mini Cooper. There are even things called hot hatches which are sportier versions. I really like the VW Scirocco but my favourite of all time is the Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2. It's the most successful rally car of all time. There has been a trend toward small SUVs in the UK in the past decade. I really can't stand them as they lack the comfort and cool factor of a proper SUV and they're far uglier and less convenient than a saloon or hatchback. I was only planning to say that hatchbacks are very common but there are lots of other types of popular cars but it seems I went off on a bit of a tangent. Yeah, Jay's dad is a prick. Jay makes a lot more sense once you meet his dad. Seems like he's never given Jay any approval and bullies him mercilessly. Jay makes up stories to get the approval from his peers that he never got from his dad, plus he probably doesn't want to get bullied for being bad with girls. Jay being so vulgar and crass also makes a lot of sense with how his dad talks about women. From my experience, Brits are generally more prudish and reserved than Americans. You would never catch anyone in my family talking like Jay and Simon's families do. Although, I did know a few people at school who would tell their parents everything which always seemed crazy to me.

Miles per hour guys, we do not use Kilometres

Nandos has been in the uk since like late 90s

To be honest a few of my mates dads are like Mr Cartwright joking around a lot and innapropriate jokes and taking the piss and I get along with them quite well because I find it quite funny but I think I’m quite happy none of my parents are like that because I wouldn’t be able to handle it everyday

Alex Barber

Loving the reactions so far! You guys could do with finding a different place to watch since the music is all replaced in these last two. I didn't notice any lines cut out in this one, but the music is quite important to the show overall IMO ❤️

The reason caravan clubs are known as shit-holes in the UK is because it's mostly for older people (50+) and poorer people. It's a drive for a hundred miles max (our country is only 400 miles vertically) where you just have "family fun" type of things. I went to a few that were "nicer" with big entertainment venues and found out the price we paid I could have gone to Spain or something and kinda hold that against my family... I could have been experiencing foreign culture, instead of watching magic shows etc. (Final note - the UK uses most measurements except for temperature and liquids. Temp is always Celcius and liquids we use millilieters, not fluid ounces... But we use a mix for EVERYTHING else. E.g. I weigh myself in pounds, some do it in KG. Weights at the gym are KG. We drive in miles but we run in kilometers)

I'll clarify a little on the British culture, at least from my experience. America has a mix of an outward an inward culture. Y'all bond over sharing secrets and getting open with people. For Brits it's entirely inward, basically keep to yourself, and only share things in small pieces. On the topic of sex for example: Whenever I'm speaking with an American woman I know A LOT about her sex life within a week to a month. When speaking to British women, pre-dating, I've only known about 1 girl's sex life. We're very prudish. HOWEVER, from my experience, families of all kinds here tend to discuss sex semi-openly. My family have mentioned plenty of things about sex over the course of my life, to the point I had to call them vile for discussing the "position I was conceived in". As for the very rough nature of Jay's dad, it's a dying breed, but I've met hundreds of men like that, typically not the greatest of people, but they're not outright dicks. We just had (until hate speech laws in 2013 which spurred gen Z to be the exact opposite - snowflakes) a very VERY intense level of humour in the UK for a long time. Jokes like Jay's dad made when they all were leaving were commonplace lol

When they said "if Jay's parents are super wholesome" I was done XD

Matthew Wise

Aran

Loving these Inbetweeners reactions, glad you’re enjoying it

Senne

The speedometer was in MPH, they went 100mph

Kyian Burnham

In the UK we use Miles per hour not KPH

Kelvin Ho
