Re:Zero S3 Episodes 10 & 11

Comments

I hate Liliana making Priscilla's golden moments so boring - worst character in the show by soooo far imo

Temojikato

Whem subaru was going on about all the archibisions being named after constallations, my first thought was "subaru, you're named after a constallation too"

Adam

You know nobody is worried about Rienhardt when he is shot into the moon and nobody comments about it

Cascascap

It's now safe to watch the first (at this time the only) OP and ED for season 3. The ED for it is the favorite in the series so far

Nolan Burke

ah, just saw others pointed this out

NECOdes

He knows about constellations, which was hinted at in the OVA when he mentioned that he got interested in them because of his own name Subaru, which is actually an asterism called the “Pleiades” in English.

NECOdes

Canonical character ages: Priscilla is 19. And yes, she is a 19-year-old widow who married eight husbands. Meanwhile, Emilia is about 110. But because she was frozen at the age of 7 for about 100 years, her mental age is said to be about 13-14. Liliana is 22. So remember that she is the big sister whenever you see her with Priscilla. 😂

Yorutia

they cut out so many things. Imagine the trilogy of Lord of the Rings movies and how it would look if 3 movies were crammed into 3 twenty minute episodes. Ok, maybe it's a little bit extreme but I am just sad after last episode that aired. I was really looking forward to particular backstory and they just cut it out :(

halastair

It's so interesting to compare the seven deadly sins found in Re:Zero versus, say, FullMetal Alchemist. Many shows have the Sin character be an obvious representation of the well-known vices of that sin, but Re:Zero is clearly doing something differently here. Clearly the author has made an effort to delve into the nuance of those sins. For example, in "Killjoys: the Seven Deadly Sins" the author described Gluttony as not simply overeating, but rather the worship of food. Exemplified is a woman who chooses NOT to eat being sinful because she has made food her god. Likewise, sloth is not necessarily "laziness" but is instead "un-contentedness" and the avoidance of responsibility; exemplifying the god of "your free time".

Renegade

Ok, for my actually thoughtful comment; Firstly, Lilliana called the lady her mom but they translated it as "you" so yes, those were her parents lol. Secondly, the twin stars called Gemini are named after Pollux and Castor in Greek, I dunno the Latin versions though, so could be referencing the same stars, but to me, I didn't think so. (You will never find someone more obsessed with Gemini btw lol the real, full story of Castor and Pollux is soul crushing) This is a medieval style world, so I wouldn't be surprised if the marriageable age here is around 12-13 (a lot of anime centers around this as well given the culture it comes from sees 13 as a matured independent person) and in a previous age, you guys commented on how young the sword master looked given she was old enough to be a grandma, when I was around 3-4 yrs old, my grandma was still only in her 30s because she had my father really young and then my mom had me when she was 16-17, so it makes sense that sword master and Priscilla still look young despite being married. Though, given how old Emilia is and she's considered the young one, I'm betting Priscilla is in her 20s somewhere. She probably married a bunch of old dudes (and maybe killed them all lol) And as for the comment on how it's basically hard to see the "normal" in the other bishops, particularly Regulus, I have to disagree and this is something I thought is fantastic writing. If you toned Regulus waaaaaaay down, some of what he says isn't overly unreasonable. "Don't talk over me/interrupt me" or "Don't insert yourself into a private conversation without introducing yourself" and "Don't talk about another man at our wedding" but when he says "my rights, my rights, my rights!" It brings to mind the far radical liberals that make anyone of the same group they're in embarrassed to be part of the same group. I know I'll be eaten alive if I point out any specifics because these people don't think in nuance or gray terms. It's very black and white, good or evil type thinking and I tend to live in the non-binary and like to discuss things from every angle, but to just give a small example, as someone who is LGBT, it frustrates me when I see LGBT people projecting gender or sexuality onto someone who then says "no, I'm not. Stop it please" then they get mad and say "you're homophobic! You're violating my rights to look for representation!" Like, no sis.. that's not what homophobic means, and you're being disgusting by either projecting your desires onto someone who doesn't even know you, OR you're outing a public figure who maybe isn't in a place that they are ready to be outed. Vile behavior, but it comes from a very human place of "I want to be seen, accepted, and heard" but it's poisoned by the Greed of it. Ugh! Just so good lol it's a very modern way of writing the 7 sins~ I can also see with Lust, it comes from a place of "I want to be wanted despite X" and she blames it all on Lust. "You can never love someone for who they are because as soon as they're deformed, your attraction goes away. If someone is misfit and ugly, they can't be loved and I want to show you how ugly you are for that" I think perhaps at some point, she was deformed by the dragon's blood (because she said "I wish I knew how to heal that") and people either went from loving her to being disgusted by her, or she felt like a misfit, a grotesque thing, her whole life and felt she couldn't be loved, but the irony is that her personality became warped and grotesque by it, so she probably only received hate even more from that like we see now, only cementing her beliefs and gratifying her. Gluttony I dunno if I understand enough yet, but clearly he was hurt by merchants 😂....😶 oh.. maybe his family was screwed over by a merchant and because of that he was starved and homeless? 🤔

Chels

So my main takeaway so far in this ep is Priscilla is a Tank and now I love her even more 😂 I main Tank on MMO's and my favorite Tank trope is "little girl, big weapon" fem tanks or Lalafel tanks (in FFXIV) are top class, and I love how they hid that so well while also making it so you can look back on her behaviors and be like "oh.. no, right. That makes sense now" she's an instigator, she believes the world revolves around her, believes that her existence can influence the very nature of reality ("the world is designed to work in my favor") and she is dommy-mommy BECAUSE she's a Tank 🤣 Oh, and she can't put up with stupidity/fools. That's a necessary Tank trait because the absolute AMOUNT of times that a DPS run ahead of me in dungeons and get their asses wiped and blame ME for not "adjusting" like bro, you gonna be stupid, you gonna die, what you want me to say? I'm busy trying not to melt because you impatient bastards want me to collect the whole ass dungeon all at once, but you want me to also run to a side corridor that doesn't matter just to save you? Hah! No.. Definitely Priscilla wouldn't be putting up with that. Also, the fact she has a "Dark Knight" weapon tells me she plays DRK in FFXIV

Chels

OMG! I didn't catch that~ I was wondering like "why would someone like Subaru know about somewhat obscure star names?" 😂 awesome observation! I think I relate him too much to my friend who he looks and talks like, but my friend wouldn't be able to name one of the 12 astrology constellations, let alone "Sirius" lol but I forget that Subaru has a bit of a nerdy side hidden under all his "delinquent appearance"

Chels

100% agree! I'm a linguistics Anthropology major and Japanese minor so I'm a bit of a nerd about this kind of thing, and when I could hear Greed in what he was saying, I completely fangirled 😂 glad to see someone else who appreciated that

Chels

You're probably right about the reason they took it out being too "vulgar" but thats funny to me for a show that has the most horrific death sequences bordering on Higurashi levels (aka When they Cry) in the first and second seasons, they made pedo jokes all through this, AND they literally just showed whats-her-face naked in the previous episode 😂 It's weird to imagine them being like "you know.. I know we just made them watch someone pee himself while Wrath licked Subaru's eyeball and in previous seasons we also twisted a young woman's body like a used rag and made her crawl across the ground in a horrific display, but.. maybe "erection" is too far?" Lol so while I think you could be right, it seems odd and I wonder if it might've been a stylistic/director choice because they were trying to cut down the amount of dialogue to fit a lot into one ep 🤔 Gonna look into this. first options funnier though, I will say

Chels

In the LN it goes more into detail about Greed's nature, it was probably left out due to being vulgar. To taunt/confirm Greed, Subaru states no heart, no blood flow, no erection. Greed has all of these wives, but he can't sleep with them. It is more about having/taking something from others.

Random

It’s pretty cool how the Authorities are tied to constellations, it almost feels like whoever created the Witch Factors might be from our world. The biggest clue is in Season 2 when Petelgeuse says Flugel gave him the Witch Factor of Sloth, which he later uses against Regulus and Pandora. Flugel being such a mystery makes me think he really is from our world. Even in Season 3 Episode 11, the Songstress mentions him in a song story, making him seem like some legendary figure. Super interesting...

wram

I'm on board with the "Priscilla and Felt are related" theory. But remember, Felt did not know her given name or last name and she has no memory of her family (she told Reinhardt as much in S1). So, trying to match the name "Felt" probably won't get you very far.

Renegade

Subaru's actor did a great job delivering the lines where he mocks Regulus' vocal cadence. S+ tier voice actor.

Renegade

Reading this in his voice allows me to not immediately gag at the use of the word 'breedable' without understanding "yeah, he probably would say that if he lived in our world". But still, why bro 😭

Renegade

Throwback all the way to Memory Snow in S1! Subaru mentions his love of stars there due to being name after one himself. I didn't ever expect that to come back!

D B

Apparently in the books, Regulus just loves to yap on and on which is why he was literally talking the entire length wise of that break time but I guess they haven't really shown him talking so much in the anime yet? I'm an anime only watcher so I wouldn't really know but I did read a bit of the novel to where we were before the anime came back for season 3.

monsters2312

so does reinhards pov outside the world appear in a later arc?

jons

Well, since arc 6 is getting rebranded to season 4 rather than another cour of season 3, we should see it released not later than 2027 (that's my guess), however, you'd need to wait for season 5 at least to find out :D

Prushkevich

Gonna have my own grandkids by then lol

Lark

A reminder that you're not supposed to really know anything about Priscilla at the current point of the story, any information right now is likely to spoil things, the anime will get there one day, just wait and have faith :)

Prushkevich

OH! I just thought of something else about the star names! (Which I just want point out that, as someone who does NOT read the light novels, I'm so happy I was able to call there being some sort of connection to their star names! I am however sad I didn't realize Capella or Alphard or Baitenkaitos were star names, I only know a handful lol). It's not just the sin archbishops that are named after stars, Subaru (and Aldebaran aka Al) is also named after a star (or collection of them) - Subaru is the Japanese name for the Pleiades, or what are often refered to in the West as the 7 sisters, since there are 7 stars visible to the naked eye that are VERY tightly clustered together. I just realized though, 7 sisters, 7 deadly sins... There's GOT to be some sort of connection to Subaru's given name and maybe, like how he now has Betelgeuse's unseen hand authority, maybe Subaru will end up collecting all 7! Also, the car logo for Subaru depicts only 6 stars, that's mostly cause I believe they represent the merger of 6 different car companies, BUT it's a well known fact that even though it's technically possible to see 7 distinct stars with the naked eye, the 7th one is very hard to see unless it's extraordinarily dark and clear skies out. Maybe Satella is represented by the star that's usually not actually visible. OR maybe there's some kind of correlation to that fact with the reason why there's no current archbishop of pride!? Idk... Just rambling now LMAO

kamikaze.33

Also, as far as Sirius' backstory and whatnot (and fyi I'm NOT a light novel reader, so this is purely speculation on my part), the fact that she went into the water the way she did and we didn't get concrete confirmation that she was dead makes me believe she will be coming back at some point. Even Priscilla mentioned how she was "lucky." Not sure what she meant by that, but I got the impression Priscilla might realize that Sirius is still alive. Maybe I'm reading too deeply into it though. But we thought we killed Betelgeuse HOW many times??? LOL He just kept coming back! LOL So I wouldn't be too surprised if there was something similar with Sirius. Sidenote: I just want to mention how in-love with Priscilla I am after this arc LOL I HATED her at first, but now I wish I could be her 9th or 10th husband, I wouldn't even mind being the 20th LMAO! I'd let her step on me and use me as a tool all she wanted XD LOL

kamikaze.33

Now, listen... you fail to grasp that someone of my stature wouldn’t stoop to such vile indulgences. My existence is far too perfect to be tainted by your vulgar insinuations. Now, kindly step aside before your own foolishness consumes what little dignity you possess.

[E10 Timestamps] 27:00 I didn't expect her to throw a one piece reference there 😂 But honestly, same. I was so worried this was going to be some flashback, ending with a horrible bloodbath. Author got us paranoid. 30:15 Honestly? I kind of don't want to know the answer 😅 38:00 I low-key needed that song battle (even though Sirius didn't sing back :P) to happen. Very refreshing from the bloodbaths that probably go around the same time. 46:34 Aw, come on, don't remind me 😆. I was hoping for a wholesome and quick resolution for once. Heck, Geuse didn't get his flashback until much later, so there's hope. 48:30 Wow, for someone who skipped nearly all high-school, he's quite knowledgeable. But this gets me thinking... whoever gave them those names must have some sort of connection to our world. But then again, they didn't start out as Apostles, did they?? Also, I still don't see the connection between time stopping and that constellation, even after Subaru's explanation. 50:00 So does this mean he gets more powerful the more wives he has nearby? That's one hell of a restriction, haha 52:20 She's not the messiah! She's just a very naughty girl :P [Bonus] 1:00:05 Maybe it's like with Mr.Burns, and the two keep fighting each other (or the "envy" factor of return to zero) in his body, so none can take over. 1:04:04 the most unexpected pair-up, but one of the most lovely one

Here's some clarifications & cut content (No Spoilers) 1. How does Subaru know about the stars? - He’s a total star nerd. In the novels, there’s constantly buildup showing his astro knowledge, but in the anime, they only show it in OVA. 2. Regulus Authority, Lion Heart? - Basically, a time-stop ability. He stops time on his own body, making himself completely invincible. No need to eat, breathe or age. Technically, he didn’t even need to dodge or get knocked back by Reinhard. But, you know he’s a merciful and generous guy. - He can also stop time on objects he touches and throw them as attacks. Since they’re frozen in time, they pierce through anything and completely shred whatever’s in their path. - Example like he threw dirt at Pandora, Crushed pebble at Subaru’s leg, Use wind to cut Crusch and Geuse's Arms by swing his arm. Grabbed water xD and touched Reinhard, yeeted him to the moon with no gravity. 3. Kiritaka - He's alive, confirmed in ep 9. Because someone assassinated all Council except him. So the Witch Cult can’t kill him. They need the witch remain info tho. Fun Facts 1. Regulus in the novel is even more dangerous. He literally used his breath to cut off Reinhard’s leg before launching him to the moon. Yep, anime did he like some Looney Toon character which is funny. 2. Priscilla is way stronger than Sirius. She was just waiting for Liliana to dispel the mind control, lol. 3. No one in this world would’ve figured out Regulus’s secret without some astro knowledge from our world (From authour Q&A iirc) 4. Reinhard's POV outside the world is major spoiler.

Wow dude... goon much???

So I kinda wish they had translated it as "PAUSING in the middle of playing a video game." Technically, the Start button IS the button on old school controllers that pauses the game, but I've seen a lot of people confused initially about it with that wording. Either way, yeah, he's pausing time for his body which means nothing can affect its physical condition and anything that hits him is either destroyed, since it's not physically possible to occupy the same space as him at the same time, or any punches/attacks bounce off him/make him go flying instead of causing any actual damage. And he can use that ability on other objects as well, like pebbles or water droplets. And if he freezes the time of a pebble that he kicks at someone, since nothing can affect or alter the path of that object, everything in it's path gets destroyed since again, it becomes physically literally impossible for any other object to occupy the same space as it or halt it's movement in any way, shape, or form. Honestly, out of all the sin authority power things, Regulus' is my least favorite. It's ALMOST a cool idea, but I don't like the execution of the idea personally. It's one of my few complaints with the story tbh. It just doesn't feel like it has anything at all to do with the idea of greed, whereas the other powers we've seen so far at least make some sense and correlate at least a little with the sin it's associated with. I also REALLY don't like how Subaru figured it out and I really think the author could've done a better job here... It just felt like such a HUGE leap of logic to go from, "it must have something to do with his heart, check if it's beating," to "you're pausing time for yourself and other objects." Like what??? How did you come to THAT conclusion?! But it's fine. It doesn't ruin anything for me with this anime, I just think it could've been done better...

kamikaze.33

A comment on your question about how Subaru knows so much about astronomy. Subaru is named after a star cluster, which is also what the car company is named after. You probably know it as the Pleiades or The Seven Sisters, but in Japan it is called Subaru. in the Memory Snow OVA at the end Subaru even teaches Emilia and Ram about constellations and stuff. TLDR: Being named after the stars, Subaru was interested in them and studied them a bit.

Gabriel Zadrozna

Okay, now I have seen neither of these episodes yet, so I'm excited about the first blind watchalong of Re:Zero with you! [E10 Timestamps / E11 in the reply] 3:40 ah, we're getting re-zero'd again. Getting a resolution/answer to one thing, but getting several new problems/questions in return. But heck, that's why I love this. 11:30 OMG Steph 😂 12:25 Hm... if he's not alive, does this mean he too was brought back by the necromancer who brought back arm dude and Wilhelm's wife? And we need to beat whoever does that magic? But then again, he was there too with pandora way back in the past... or maybe he's like a Lich and holds some kind of phylactery where his soul is stored, and you need to break it?? 13:55 Even though I had a hunch this was coming the moment she stepped in close - WOAH 18:08 Oh no...I have no idea what she means by that, but I'm already scared for Pricilla. This is going to be some horrific backstory of Priscilla or something. Let's hope it's a false flag by the author and I'm worried over nothing. 21:27 My theory would be is that his authority has to something with his self righteousness. Like as long as he believes he's okay, he'll be okay. So like the way to beat him is to break him mentally first...somehow... damn I hope Subaru has got some more plans 😅 22:22 ...okay I was a bit off. Still, my question stands - how do you beat that, even knowing it?!

Peter Butchens

Even Subaru is a star name 😂 I think in the novels its brought up that Subaru always had fascination with the constellations back on earth. Hence why he knows this much. With the anime, this info from Subaru does come out of nowhere tho lol. Also his parents naming him after a star is so sweet. I wonder what the significance of the constellations brings to the story. So many fun things to theorize on. Author is cooking hard.

Reuben Filimaua

It is a light novel Wes

Listen now... what Regulus Corneas wants is law In other words it is his rights to breed the submissive Emilia-tan

Remember these names, Iris and thorn king, Reid and Flügel.

Mohammad Bemana

The author does explore all the doors he opens, the issue however is that a lot of lore he writes is in side stories/novels that are separate from the main rezero novel but still take place in that world, usually from a different characters POV, point in time or alternate timeline (like a what if), so they most likely won't make it into the anime, but hopefully everything gets answered in the main rezero story and anime
