Alice In Borderland S2 Episode 2

Comments

there's no real reason to touch the pole unless you see enemies, Tatta was being every bit as vigilant as he needed to. There's a huge open area between every path and the pole, and it's at one end of the shipyard so there's no way to sneak behind it. You don't have to cover 360 degrees. As long as you're standing by the pole and keeping watch, you have all the time in the world to react. Though there was nothing at all Tatta could have done when four of them rushed the pole at the same time. It would be impossible for him to tag them all before someone touches the pole since he has to keep a hand on it himself and it would be wildly unrealistic to assume he can reach four people coming from different angles in the time between them entering his reach and touching the pole. If he just hugs the pole and lashes out without looking where he's aiming then it'd be even easier to move around him. It's definitely true that he was the least willing to put his life on the line, but assuming anyone could have done something against Kyuma and Shitara's suicide run plan or otherwise being harsh on Tatta makes me feel really frustrated. Similarly, I never got the vibe that Kyuma was an adrenaline junkie at all. (if anyone fits that description, it's Niragi) If anything, for lack of a better term, he's a sincerity junkie. It's not that life didn't feel real away from his concerts, it's that people didn't. They hide themselves away, act polite, don't chase the dreams they actually care about, generally they aren't being their real selves. Here, people throw away all of that because they're confronted by their own mortality. I think Wes mentioned something similar in a previous episode in regards to a car accident? And Kyuma's earnest fixation on helping Arisu resolve his issues is because that even though this is life or death, Arisu isn't willing to risk his own or his friends' lives to try to win. Despite being confronted by his own mortality, he isn't willing to act true to himself. He's given up. It's a recurring thing for him and Usagi both. (which is why it matters that he goes for the electric shock plan, he's finally willing to go all out) Kyuma says all of this pretty directly in the beginning, when he found Arisu and Kyuma, and when he corners Arisu in the container. It's also why he's a nudist. To show this theme in the most direct way possible. I think this is also why Clubs games were never about adrenaline. As explained in episode 2 and a few times here and there since, they're about teamwork. You can't excel at Clubs games unless you're willing to be 1000% fully real and sincere with each other and with the stakes at play, because that's the only way you get perfect teamwork. Maybe that's the real difference: I really don't think Kyuma is enjoying any of this, I just think he accepts it in a way our protagonists haven't learned yet. But hey, all of this is the best part of the show. There's SO much to dig your teeth into and to discuss and debate.

Fun fact the word "Kokumin" means citizen or is translated as such, however in Japanese law, its regarded as ethnic japanese people. So people who become citizen through naturalisation or other means don't become kokumin/citizens and are not protected by the japanese constitution as it only protects kokumin. There was a famous case in the 60-70s of an american who became a japanese citizen and because he spoke out about the vietnam war, they revoked his citizenship. And the supreme court found that it was ok, because he was not japanese or regarded as kokumin.

“He seems pretty chill about this.” Well of course, he’s roaming around butt-booty-ass naked like he’s in his own home alone 😂 I wish i could see an interview of the actor who played that guy to know how he felt doing scenes where he’s the only one completely naked in front of everyone.
