Re:Zero S3 Episode 12

Comments

Its very poetic also that Regulus can quite literally give his heart to anyone and never can actually gain the hearts of others. And not only that his heart is something no one wants. He has the power to give his heart but uses it in the worst way

ItsSimple

Re Zero songs are such bangers, but S3 outdid itself with the music.

The Anime Dude

You’re right. Emilia can’t unfreeze the elves in Elior Forest yet because she doesn’t have enough mana. She needs to use a spell with the same mana level as the power she unleashed as a child to unfreeze them. Like how Puck unfroze Emilia—because Puck is a great spirit. And Emilia’s mana drought for a hundred years froze herself.

Yeeah in alot of ways the Archbishops all represent a despicable part of humanity - I mean they're representatives of the seven deadly sins after all. Petelgeuse in Season 1 was a representative of the type of people obsessed with their own image of a person (Satella).. forcing their ideals on that person. Convincing themselves they're worthy of her love and will be seen by them if they do so much for them. Kinda like what Subaru was doing in Season 1 and was forced to be confronted by that ugly reality and change for the better. Regulus was just an insecure emotionally manipulative abusive narcissist. "Its never my fault. You did this. I'm a victim." He expects so much from everybody and expects to be treated as someone of worth. He takes and does not return in kind. He can't stand people not knowing their place beneath him. He can't stand people laughing at him or thinking less of him. He wants it all and expects to be seen as a generous person. He takes from you and gaslights you into thinking its your fault and that you should be grateful to him. Truly the perfect representative of Greed. Could've just as easily been Pride too lol.

Reuben Filimaua

Yeah, but Wes seems to be under the impression that they are merged somehow or something

Prushkevich

I don't remember if you guys brought this up or realized before but Sylphy's voice actress in this is Kaguya from Love is War. I never realized until this episode but the entire time she was yelling I could only hear Kaguya yelling at Shirogane lol

Brady

Yeah, it's really nice that they went the extra mile with that!

D B

To be clearer, because of his Authority Regulus is not able to have sex with his wives. But that's just a consequence of his Authority. According to the author, Regulus has no interest in sex at all anyway, it's an act that disgusts him. And the anime cuts passages from the Light Novel for reasons of episode/season format. They can't fit everything in.

GTB

Fun fact re zero is a novel series that got a anime in all 3 seasons they have cut a lot like information about the power system and characters moments and lore

mark9jr

Putting some things into perspective in regards to Regulus' strength; he single-handedly took down a fortified city in the Vollachian Empire (stated during the White Whale arc in the light novels) "It was known as the most solidly defended city in that nation's border regions. It had a standard garrison of thousands of troops, while the settlement itself was enveloped by a complex set of defensive walls." In the Q&A session, Tappei answered that in a free for all, unconditional fight between all Witches of Sin, excluding Satella, + all the Sin Archbishops, only Regulus would win. Also stated that if Subaru wasn't here, Reinhard probably would have retreated, admitting defeat as he wouldn't be able to kill him. More tidbits about Regulus. His family was as such: his father was an alcoholic yet tried to be a good father, his mother complained about bad earnings but apologized for it occasionally, and his two brothers were sometimes mean to him but gave him their share of their meal if he accidentally spilled his. Lastly, which was reflected in this episode, his first wife seemed to be special even for someone as crazy as him. He refers to her in his last moments, and it's stated that his first wife was the only one he ever built a grave for.

Araragi Senpai

The cute sounds Emilia does when she's mercilessly pummeling Regulus against that wall were so funny.

Fabien

They gave different names anyway, in the first few encounters.

Fabien

They left out a few things about Regulus during this fight from the Light Novel, that make him seem weaker than he really is so I'm here to let you know what they are. - Regulus blew away Reinhard's whole leg and almost ripped off his shoulder with JUST his breath. - Regulus was portrayed to be so fast that it seemed like he was teleporting, even surprising someone like Reinhard by his speed. - Regulus' attacks were so destructive they were portrayed to destroy entire parts of the city. - In the Novels, instead of Regulus standing around arrogantly and letting Subaru explain his own Authority of Greed to him, Regulus instead is attacking Subaru while Subaru tries running around and parkouring to survive. - Not the Light Novel but in an interview the author said that without Subaru, no one in the Re:Zero world would have been able to figure out Regulus' weakness. Hope this helps showing how terrifying and truly powerful the guy is. Besides that he is still very childish and pathetic and at the end of the day, he's just a weak man given a powerful ability. It really does suck though having so much content from the Light Novels not being included in the anime but I believe its a mixture of pacing and the Studio director just simply not prioritising Re:Zero enough. Also, like 90% of Regulus' dialogue was cut out from the Light Novel, there would be entire blocks of text of him just yapping and to be honest it goes to show how drunk on himself he is. As Sylphy said, the only person he could love is himself. This is also funnily enough one of the biggest reasons why Subaru survived against Regulus for as long as he did, the guy just wouldn't stop talking and going on and on about things allowing for Subaru to stall for Emilia.

wram

2 gluttonies were shown in 2 different places simultaneously in episode 9, so yeah, it's confirmed

Prushkevich

He’s a psychopath and sociopath, he’s been those since the day he was born. It’s most definitely just his own ideology. Hes just completely asexual because he lacked that sense of humanity since he was born. If he at ALL ever had sexual urges, he would’ve definitely done something. Since obviously, he didn’t get his Authority until much later in life. When he did, he killed his childhood crush’s entire family and forced her to be his wife. By then, he would’ve gone through puberty and had those sexual urges. Seeing as he never tried anything to her, it can definitely be assumed he’s just NEVER had that part of him

Nyctophobiasm

imo i think he only believes that because he doesn't get any urge to have sex. Since he's frozen in time, it makes sense that those hormones aren't firing. Which in turn, makes him collect wives like dolls. If he wasn't frozen in time, he would prolly give in to his urges and have sex. I can't see him not doing it since he's such a greedy loser.

Regarding the age of Theresia, Corpse soldiers can be de-aged so even if you die old, you can be returned in your prime. Regarding the opening, Theresia and Kurgan were NOT shown at first. Actually, in episode 9 (beginning of cour 2), they changed the opening by uncloaking Theresia and Kurgan. They were shown as regular cultists before. So no, there's really no spoilers in the opening at first. Also would like to add, during Regulus' death, when the water started flooding in, he started to drink the water because he was incredibly thirsty. He thought it was delicious since he hadn't drank water in over 100 years. Author also said that his cause of death wasn't known, either heart failure from his authority, or drowning. But if he had to choose a cause of death, it would be; Cause of death: Wedding (lol)

35:51 They did NOT show Theresia's face in the intro in the earlier episodes. She was shown wearing mask in that very same scene. It was only after Wilheim's revelation that the intro changed. Same actions, same animation, just without mask.

Yorutia

Regulus believes virginity to be purity. Even if he could have an erection, he would not have sex. He collects wives just to have property and his own sick sense of fulfillment

Nyctophobiasm

Those are the last moments of regulus for anyone wondering : He was torn between two choices activating his ability that lasts only 5 seconds or not activating it and drowning : Heart failure. Drowning. Heart failure. Drowning. Heart failure—. Drowning—. As if continuing without end, pain and suffering without end or pause. Regulus opened his mouth, and water and mud are poured together into open mouth. With this repeated violation of his lungs and internal organs, Regulus cried out. With a voice that could not make sound, he continued to cry out. No response. Around him, there was no one.

Adel

actually, initially theresias face didnt show up in the intro, it was just a normal witch cultist. they changed it for cour 2

jons

The comments about being able to get married when you’re 13 and the Subaru light novel cuts are kind of questionable. There’s another reason Theresia is looking so young which I won’t get into but they should’ve known if they’re a light novel reader The anime was smart creating lots of fake matchups so they could show fighting without spoilers. The hood for Theresia & Kurgan wasn’t taken off till 2 episodes ago so they weren’t shown before they got revealed in the anime

smth positive_

She's been saying that even before she met Subaru (in the OVA). But yes, there is a pretty strong dichotomy between them there. She introduces herself as Emilia, just plain old Emilia, because she does not believe she is some second coming of Witch of Envy, no matter how much people want to brand her that way. While Subaru knows he is just that, no matter how much he really wanted to be just like his father, he is just Subaru. And while at first that was source of a lot of his mental issues, these days he learned to accept it. Actually, for both of them it was the source of a lot of their mental issues, and they both came to to terms with it in season 2.

smajdalf

18:30 It's funny how we all hated Betelgeuze in season 1, but now we get angry when Regulus mocks him, and, enjoy moments like 19:45 ;_; 21:55 I can't 🤣 the cute yells along with her punching him till her fists are bloody. 25:05 Reinhard entering One Punch Man levels of OP, haha, even the moon thing. 37:20 and I AM glad that there wasn't some twist where Greed wasn't beaten and Subaru had to loop again. But yeah, I'm glad he got what's coming to him. Kinda like that one Upper Oni Level in Kimetsu no Yaiba at the end of Season 3, who also blamed everyone else.

Peter Butchens

Everytime she says "I'm Emilia, just Emilia" cause thats what Subaru does whenever he does his stupid pose and goes "My name is Natsuki Subaru" ugh I love them so much

monsters2312

Reinhard really sent him cave diving 😭 As pathetic as Regulus is, his OST is a banger

NECOdes

well yeah but that only worked because Regulus likes to yapp too much and is essentialy drunk on himself to notice somoene's condition and also because he like to rub his superiorty and kill his opponent only when he's in full despair. If he took it serious from the get go, it would have been very different, you could say that it's Regulus was slothful that they had such an easy time defeating him and betegeuse was so diligent that Subaru had a hard time with him which is ironic because Betelegeuze is the sin archbishop of sloth. (Well he did say that he didn't want the title when Pandora gave it to him)

Adel

Corpse soldiers can be de-aged so even if you die from old age you can be returned in your prime.

Adam Pitcher

Subaru really undersells himself. Not only did he hold out against regulus long enough for Emilia to go to the church, freeze everybody and come back, he even tricked him by making him believe he is close to death.

Honeybadger

one of the best things in this episode is petelgeuse finally able to protect emilia. His sacrifice in taking in the witch factor years ago finally paid of and he was able to save emila from greed. And it also showed the difference between regulus and petelgeuse. Subaru needed to do multiple loops, and was traumatized fighting sloth. It was the only time (so far) subaru lost (failed to saved Rem). While against greed, he never used return by death and he beat him in one try. The growth subaru got from fighting sloth allowed him to beat greed in one go.

rdcc

Regulus is just too lazy he could have done a multitude of things with his ability, in the light novel he actually ripped I think Reinhard's leg just due to his breathing. His power is actually so op but Regulus instead of using it effectively, will yap all day about his rights because before killing someone he generally needs to show said person his superiorty in every way before killing the person. (there is a very good reaon why he does that for his character). Lion's heart only drawback is that it takes a toll on his heart and as such he can only use it for five seconds but hi other ability Little King lets him share a mini Lion’s Heart with his "wives," linking their heartbeats to his. This let him bypass the 5-second limit of Lion’s Heart, keeping his invincibility active as long as one of them was alive. To avoid losing this advantage, he married over 200 wives throughout his century-long life. But actually Little king is active on anyone he considers a "subject" of his "kingdom" the wife thingy is just something he chose because he only wants to share his heart with someone he considers to be beautiful enough to deserve it. But he could have actually shared his heart with random people or birds or whatever, which would have made it truly impossible to find the trick to his power as subaru did. But Regulus is too arrogant and unbothered for that. Now for Regulus's backstory : Basically, he grew up in a fairly poor village and his parents and siblings took care of him. They were acts of kindness but Regulus always saw them as acts of pity which led to him having an inferiority complex. He despised his family and those around him for pitying him. So after getting his authority, he wiped out his entire village and even the entire country. Except for his friend who would later become his first wife. But she never smiled at him until the day she took herself out. The cause of death of his first wife was suicide. His wife, who had never smiled at Regulus, first showed a smile born of contempt, and that became his extreme trauma. Since then, Regulus hates it when his wives smile. I think cutting the details about his childhood out are unfortunate because it's a large part of his mindset and why he always has to get the last word. Why he has to be superior to everyone. He doesn't instantly win a fight when he could because he wants his opponent to exhaust all of their options before they lose. When Regulus curls up in the sky like a child, he's showing that he hasn't changed even once. He still has the same mindset he did as a child. Fitting. His authority freezes his body. But his mind is just as frozen because he refuses to change. In a lot of ways, he's a dark parallel to Subaru at his worst. When Subaru did things and claimed he was being generous because they were for Emilia but in actuality were for himself. When Subaru said she should be grateful to him after everything he'd done and yelled at her for not understanding. Trying to guilt trip her into seeing from his perspective. Subaru grew. Regulus did not. The only wife Regulus made his grave for was his first; but, he doesn't remember where her grave is, or her family or her face, only her smile when she died. That is why, in the flashback, only eyeless wives appear, showing only how they laugh at Regulus as they watch him dying.

Adel

Regulus, a man with so much drip but so little aura. Here is a quick explanation about his power : Regulus ability Lion’s Heart lets him stop his own time, meaning no heartbeat, no gravity, no air resistance—nothing affects him. He can also stop the time of anything he touches, making it untouchable by the world. While active, he's literally cut off from time itself—doesn’t need to eat, drink, or even breathe. Basically, he's an untouchable, invincible anomaly.

Adel

They actually just started showing Theresia's face in the OP after the reveal, before that she had the hood on. There's also a bunch of fake spoilers mixed in so you can't tell what's actually a spoiler.

Montanso

I’m not gonna lie as much as I’ve liked this adaption so far they really underplayed what both Subaru and regulus are capable of in this episode. Most of Subaru’s acrobatics were cut and Regulus was made to look a lot more impotent they probably should’ve. I get what they were going for but they undercut how much of a threat he is way too early

A Guy

They reacted to season 2 first OP. But it depends on them if they want to do it at the end.

Sagi

Hey guys, I was just wondering, will you ever react to Re zero's openings and endings? You skipped all of them as far as I've seen
