The manga went into detail about how the Kurta clan was massacred. Here's a part of it: "Since the scarlet color is caused by anger and makes the eyes more valuable, it's reported that the Troupe members mutilated the children in front of their parents in order to intensify the scarlet color." Also, back in the Killua retrieval arc, Canary mentioned to Killua that she's from Meteor City.

2025-03-07 23:55:02 +0000 UTCAs Wesley succintly pointed out, we only ever see them mass murdering the Mafia, which are generally considered as bad people. We never see them kill innocent civilians. We are only told that they did that in the past (Kurapika's clan). That's why some people are still on the fence with them.

2025-03-07 15:18:53 +0000 UTCAll I’m going to say is that Hisoka is comparable to Chrollo. Not saying who is stronger/better combatant, just that they are way closer to each other level than you would think. There is a light Novel about Hisoka when he was a kid, a very highly recommended read. Edit: even when I was a teenager watching the OG Hunter X Hunter, I never thought any spider was a threat to Hisoka other than Chrollo in terms of one on one by my gut instinct. Hisoka to me is as different to other characters in HxH as Chrollo imo. They are both outlier characters.

2025-03-07 14:16:15 +0000 UTCThe fact that we never see the Phantom Troupe do anything truly evil on screen really messes the viewer's heads. The author did an excellent job humanizing them and made the viewers see the spiders as how the spiders would see each other. It's a very interesting way to write villains imo.

2025-03-06 21:47:46 +0000 UTCThere's actually an ongoing theory in the manga (its only a theory so I dont think it counts as spoiler) that the Troupe was tricked into attacking the Kurta Clan by a certain character that loves body parts. If true, that would make the Troupe a lot more likeable than they already are, like a bunch of misunderstood individuals that got framed or just put in a bad situation.

2025-03-06 20:50:06 +0000 UTCThe Phantom Troupe are such a fascinating vibrant collection of antagonists. They're cool, they're distinct, they're surprisingly normal in their reactions and conversations towards each other, they're extremely capable, they're aloof to things that should scare them. A lot of people love this arc and the Troupe. The characters in HxH are hard to place in terms of morality. Even one of the main characters Killua has a history of being a professional assassin, and same for Gon who has no reservations about that.

2025-03-06 20:42:28 +0000 UTCThere is a chapter zero on the manga, that shows kurapika backstory, but I don't remember if it mentions some spoilers or not.
