Because there are some really really good stuff out there. My all time favourite is Tonbi (2013), which would hit extra hard for parents. Ghost Writer (2015) is also insanely good. And then there are phenomenally popular (in Japan) shows like Hanzawa Naoki. (Sorry if it’s too irrelevant to the nomination, but considering Alice in Borderland is in the “anime time slot”, I think this is still kind of relevant.)

I was a little confused in the first movie, but as I kept watching them the format made sense, and I absolutely enjoyed the movies, and at least think I fully understand everything. But even when I was confused, the movies were just so damn entertaining to watch, I'd recommend it for sure! The animation, the score, the world... It's all fantastic.

(By the way, good catch including the original poster in the upvotes - though it doesn’t really change the outcome since it affects every show. ^^) It was really just a coincidence with the Saiki thing. Since I was the one recommending it this time, I happened to notice it getting a lot of upvotes. Also, it's not really about "my show" winning or feeling heard. For me, it's more about sticking to the rules that were laid out from the start and not changing them for no apparent reason. Especially if it's literally the opposite of what was said at the start. That was really my only issue.

Just so everyone can feel heard, and make any defeat easier to accept knowing it’s all fair and square. For this time, let’s just stick to the most upvoted suggestions, since it’s the announced and established rule. Number of mentions can be a tie-breaker. (And of course, Wes and Steph have the final say on everything.)

I took the top three upvote counts on each anime (including the original poster) and ordered the list based on highest total votes and also highest average votes (of however many posts there were): #1 Apothecary diaries had 46 at its highest #2 Code Geass at 40 #3 Parasyte the Maxim at 40 #4 Slime at 38 #5 Saiki K at 37 While at average votes it's: #1 Apothecary Diaries at 45.3 #2 Code Geass at 36.7 #3 Slime at 33.3 #4 Eminence in Shadow at 31.0 #5 My Hero Academia at 30.7 You were right about Saiki-K in particular, but Parasyte also ended up suffering because of low recommendation count. Saiki-K only had three separate people recommend it, and one of those only had three upvotes. In case you couldn't tell, I like doing this kind of thing. All of this is available on the spreadsheet.

The animation is old, but the story is golden, and it has a complicated emotionally charged plot that I feel you'd enjoy. Berserk stands alongside Vinland Saga as one of the greatest adult manga/anime stories ever told.

I don't really want to argue with you, nor am I motivated enough to cross check everything, but there are definitely outliers. Take one of my recommended shows, Saiki K., for example. In your sheet, it only has three unique recommendations, but the most upvoted comment stands at 36. If I look at just your top five, the most upvoted comment standings are: #1 Apothecary Diaries – 45 upvotes #2 My Hero Academia – 31 upvotes #3 Made in Abyss – 28 upvotes #4 Eighty-Six – 31 upvotes #5 Code Geass – 39 upvotes So, based on your measurements, Saiki K. would fall out (or at least almost fall out if the threshold is set at 2), but based on the upvote measurement, it's among the top contenders. If you're doing this just to pass the time or because you enjoy it, that's totally fine, but please don't try to change the rules midway. I - and I'm sure others, too - tried to avoid duplicates, and now you're essentially punishing the people who played fair.

And I also want to recommend Naruto (without the fillers). For movies I also recommend this anime movies about the meaning of family: Tokyo Godfthers and Summer Wars.

I'm sure you can see that simply by looking at the top 10; those are shows that are pretty popular and have gotten a lot of upvotes. There were very few single unique recommendations that had more than 10 upvotes, while almost all of the major shows' duplicates had anywhere between 20-50. As a result, what this DOES accomplish is give a vague idea of what the most popular shows are, potentially so Wes/Steph can look at every show below the '2' recommendations and decide not to include them in the poll. This was the whole point of the post: to list all the recommendations in one place. The additional feature of seeing the unique recommendation count is mostly irrelevant, but I included it to help me keep track of counts, and as a way of helping to filter (even if only slightly) more popular recommendations from the less popular ones. You're right, the information isn't conclusive at all and couldn't be used in any real study...but that's also not what this is. Realistically, I just wanted to save Wes/Steph an afternoon of infinitely scrolling through and cross-referencing the poll with the almost 800 comments. They are almost certainly busier than I am, and this is my area of study anyway. All in all, the only thing I did was basic data entry (I didn't even have to write a formula!) which isn't hard, it's just time consuming with no 'export to csv' button.

The thing is, the number of times something gets recommended doesn’t mean much, especially since people were advised to avoid recommending duplicates if possible. That’s why they go by the most upvoted - you only take the comment with the most upvotes for that particular show, so you can’t "cheat" by making multiple recommendations for the same show and upvoting them all. But in the end, these are just the recommendations for the official poll, and I’m pretty sure at least the top 10 to 15 recommendations will make it in anyway. Whether they were recommended once or twenty times, they’ll get enough upvotes because they’re popular enough, and their exact placement in the top 20 doesn’t really matter - it’s just about getting into the poll right now. It gets a bit more questionable around the top 15–20, probably, but let’s be honest shows that barely make it into the poll most likely don’t have a real chance of winning anyway.

(Edit: I have also included highest upvote count.) There were 248 different anime, shows, or movies recommended. The only thing excluded were K-Dramas and content already watched on the channel: Apothecary Diaries had 35 separate recommendations, My Hero Academia had 29, Made in Abyss had 26, Eighty-Six and Code Geass both had 23, Arcane had 16, Your Lie in April had 15, Blue Lock and Cyberpunk Edgerunners had 14, Overlord and Slime had 13, Bocchi the Rock, Fruits Basket, Orb, and Eminence in Shadow had 12. More can be found on the online doc. Note that this does not include upvotes or comments, it is simply the amount of times an individual recommended the anime. Using the upvotes would be too difficult to monitor, because there would be a lot of overlap where someone could like every single post with their favorite anime on it. As a result, this is NOT a good ranking system to see what is most popular, BUT it does organize all of the recommendations into a complete list. I still would think having a poll would be best, but this cuts out some of the legwork of scrolling through all the suggestions and removing repeats. And is a stand alone tittle that doesn't require other shows unlike the Fate/s. Also, I just want to see them trying to undestand what is going on since they both are very analytical xd. But is true that the recommended order is Fate/stay night (Fate, UBW and HF) first and then other entries. The problem is the adaptation of Fate 2006 is incompatible with the Ufotable ones in various aspects. It's a really complicated matter. The adaptations are messy. Thank you for the comment. Guess I'll see what happend next or if this kind of thing is even allowed in the anime nominations. If not, then I will just recommend the Fate 2006 in the next anime nominations until it wins (maybe in some years).

2025-03-22 21:43:02 +0000 UTCGarden of sinners is pretty complex for someone with no nasuverse context to jump into, I wouldn't be dissapointed if they watched it but I also wouldn't suggest they start there. I haven't seen a reaction to Dean Stay/Night (2006) before and I think it's the friendliest introduction to the series despite it's flaws, so I still personally suggest they start there. Without this version included it leads to an intense argument about whether they watch Zero or UBW first. Zero is intended to be watched after someone has experienced a Stay/Night route but UBW was written with the expectation that Zero has been watched. The argument would happen anyway but I think more people can get behind watching in release order as long as they have seen Stay/Night first as it makes Zero hit harder, and it also means the art/animation quality improves each series.

There is this thing I call "The Ufotable Saga". It's basically all the ufotable's shows of Type-Moon property. It consists in: -Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners) (10 movies) -Fate/Zero (25 episodes) -Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (26 episodes) -Fate/stay night Heaven's Feel (3 movies) -Emiya-San no Chi no Gohan (Todays Menu for the Emiya Family) (13 short episodes) -Mahoutsukai no Yoru (1 movie, not yet released) Since every work is connected and they share the same basic worldbuilding I think it deserves to be counted as one big show. I know that it's more complicated than just that, and that its more recommended to start Fate with Fate 2006. But this "bundle" of shows is for the enjoyment of the patreons and wes and steph. Also, the adaptations of Fate/stay night are incomplete one way or another. So watching all this shows together would improve the undestanding of the worldbuilding and the concepts of the shows as a whole. This shows also are of easy access since all of them are on Crunchyroll. So yeah, if you like Fate or the Nasuverse in general, vote for this one. Edit: Be aware that this series deal with mature content and heavy themes. So if you're not confortable with those topics, this series are not for you.

However, once again some serious stuff is close so I want to bring it to more attention. If am not mistaken Cyberpunk Edgerunners is second rn and that is solid, Overlord is not so close but you can't miss with that one since its so layered writing and both of you are smart to catch on things, especially Wes since he has Psychological background, Tanya the Evil is also close and a solid choice. If I had to add one it would be Parasyte the maxim. We've got enough of mellowed-down shows so far so to take a break and watch something serious would be nice. Also, it would bring you more views once uploaded on YouTube so I guess more members here. Love you guys!

The thing is, it's not the animation that carries the anime; it's the characters and the vibe. Definitely one of the more polarizing shows.

I don’t think MHA is too long to react to, but it would have probably been a better show overall with one or even two seasons less, at least for me. I loved it in the beginning but lost some interest in the later seasons, even though the second half of the last season was really great again. Let’s hope for a good finale.

Even if you watched 10 episodes a week and skipped the fillers, it would still take about two years just to catch up. I’d suggest watching the live-action adaptation and hoping for a good remake of the anime.

Also, Dandadan didn’t win either; it was just a little extra release - but recency bias will always influence polls, obviously. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad show, though. Itsa funny but sometimes serious and cool anime about a perverted 25 year old teacher that gets bullied by his stundents but turns it around. He isnt even qualified as a teacher and when he teaches he simply plays with the kids. It shows the aspect that school shouldnt be a nightmare and that life is very fun. For example one student blackmailed him that she was in her underwear in his apartment (its an older anime so really no perverted stuff but just jokes) she then tries to kill herself by jumping off his bike. He quickly catches her and they talk. Since they moved to a new bigger apartmant her parents and she never really talk anymore. Onizuka just shows up the same evening eithout a shirt and a sledge hammer and busts down the wall in her house and made the family grow closer since they saw each other more. If you just watch the literal first five minutes of the first episode I prome you that you'll will like it and the viewers too since it would be change of pace from all the other reaction youtubers who only react to the most popular stuff

Some of the mysteries aren't too deep or mind-blowing, but the main character is just so interesting. Bocchi the Rock! (Comedy/Slice of Life): [12 Ep, 2nd Season Announced] Very funny (and possibly relatable) slice of life show. The scope of the show is entirely focused on one fun character, so no deep mysteries to solve here, just a fun little ride. Ranking of Kings (Adventure/Fantasy/Shounen): [23 Ep in main season, film in production] Really, really facinating story and world. There are times it's really sweet, and also other times 🙂. I can't really say much else without spoiling it, but I really like this one. 86 (Mecha/Action/Drama/Seinen): [23 eps, No news of continuation] I don't usually watch Mecha shows, but this one is one of my favorites. The worldbuilding is unique and the story is great, but be prepared to be serious with this one, as it can be a real heart-wrencher...most of the time. My Hero Academia (Action/School/Shounen): [163 eps (not including movies), Not finished but in last arc] MHA is a popular show targeted at a younger audience, but the power system is fairly unique/interesting. Sometimes the plot points are pretty simple and explicitly stated, but it's worth a watch, and I think you guys would like it. It is fairly long, though. (Other commenters, please correct me in the comments if I made any errors in the episode count or genres. I only made a quick google search or used MAL for most of these.)

The VN's weren't available in english until much later (got them on a steam sale only a couple of years ago). Of course, if you do the VN first, the anime usually pales. But back then that wasn't an option. And doing the anime first, or even just the anime (VN's are not for everyone's taste), can still be enjoyable :)

My Hero Academia multiple seasons (5+ I believe) and has a good storyline. Rising of the Shield Hero is a masterpiece of a story, at least season one. Overlord is also very cool, not your basic Isekai. The actions in the show really make you think about morals. Also knowing that you two are into DnD is also a bonus since the overlord world is based on DnD. That time I got reincarnated as a slime is also not bad. Some say it’s also too generic but I don’t think so. You got pretty cool characters and if you are into fighting scenes, oh boy! Eminence in the Shadow is just boring because you got a “overpowered mc” like in nearly every Isekai and that’s it.
