Also the anime will never touch on this because it's an arc that is after this series ended so this is a spoiler that is completely irrelevant to the rest of the series. The Hunter X Hunter world is fucking TERRIFYING. Canonically what we know of is about the equivalent of a continent or two, and there is a vast horrifying world distantly all around it called The Dark Continent. The Chimera Ants are from there, and considered one of the lesser threats from it.

They are small, they are numourous, they are often looked down upon, yet they are also the peak of intellegence and grandiose in the natural world considering how much they can achieve. In a way, ants are like nature's metaphor of mankind. Ants strike fear in us because ants ARE us.

2025-05-23 11:58:49 +0000 UTCInterestingly enough depending on the species of ant the reliance on the queen can vary some can have multiple queens in one colony where as another will replace the queen if there is any fault with it there is even one that will take the larva and abandon the queen if the colony is at enough risk but most will stick to the queen even after her death normally resulting in the end of the colony within a year

2025-05-22 22:28:15 +0000 UTCJust a reminder that HXH world have many different animals compared to ours. Like in the hunter exam, there were a lot of strange beasts there. In the manga this part was very different, because we already knew who Kite was, so there was a part where Gon and Killua are helping in discovering new species. In the anime, they changed all that.

2025-05-22 20:54:05 +0000 UTCSteph: "I am not getting attached to these kids." - Biggest lie ever told. :D Even though he remembered her face for a moment later on, I always thought he spared his mother in that moment because she simply didn’t meet his standards for "food" quality for the Queen. He told his soldiers to spare the kids and go for the adults when we first saw him lead the squad - because adults are larger and therefore better/more "food." When arguing with the croc-guy, he also said it’s about quality over quantity. The townspeople were already worried she might collapse soon, since she was shown to be malnourished and sleep-deprived; they even drew her face to look especially weak and thin. He just had a better food alternative, so he let her be - I guess.

At first watch, we are all like, did the author just kill these children for shock value to make us hate the ants a lot? But Togashi don't write big deaths like that just for shock value. As you've already seen, the memories of Kurt are having an effect on the chimera ant he was reborn into.

This only for a better viewing experience for you since you have the two episodes format
