This is a very late comment and I haven't checked other comments if they have clarified, but about the Chinese language. It isn't quite a syllable language. Although each character does represent a single syllable sound, that sound is also an entire word. So like the character 火 is pronounced huo, and it translates as the word fire. Big fire would be 大火 where 大, pronounced da, is the word big. So unlike English or Japanese where each letter has a sound but a collection of letters makes up words, the characters themselves are the sounds and words.

And Gyokuyou is a princess from a western state of the country. Which kind of explained her red hair and green/jade eyes. The Yenisei Kyrgyz people were described in ancient Chinese sources as having red hair and green or blue eyes, and their phenotypes are still present in some Central Asian groups like modern Uyghurs, Kazakhs, and Tajiks.

2025-11-23 18:05:28 +0000 UTCI think you're getting the wrong read on the Old Lady that kept Fengxian in secrecy. We know Lakan wasn't at fault because we SAW the flashback. The Old Lady probably thought he abandoned her after getting her pregnant. She didn't even know, unless Fengxian told her, if it was consensual. I think the whole story is just tragic because of lack of good communication and bad timing.

She's just being protective of her daughter (Fengxian) for what she's been through. The reason why old lady is taking care of MaoMao when she's in the brothel is cause she's her grandchild.
