In high school my English grades were always higher than my native language grades. I just love how much I can play around with English words. I can switch some words around, I can omit them and it can still make sense or look stylish. Even if it doesn't make sense, it can still be stylish. It's not a luxury my language has. Not as freely, and certainly not so stylish. This is also why I always preferred English writing gigs, because I could whip up a text much faster. It always took me at least 5 times as long in my own language.

To show him that she is kinda mad at him but also teases him. It is hard to put in words i guess.

2025-09-21 13:05:23 +0000 UTCEnglish is one of the easiest languages to learn, but I feel like it has no rules, only vibes xD (I am currently learning English, and I find it a little difficult because in my language, words are read the same way they are written, and letters also always sound the same. I don't know if I explained it clearly, but the system is similar to the German)

2025-09-20 17:57:17 +0000 UTCThe ways Japanese is translated/interpreted vs what it sounds like to them is one of the reasons I want to go into interpreting 😊 it is fun and interesting to see the various ways language develops and once you dig into it, it reveals soooo much about the psychology of a culture. Like, for eg. "Arigatou gozaimasu" doesn't mean "thank you very much" like we translate it. It's a phrase that developed during the shogun period/feudal period when samurai were most prominent. It was a phrase to say "you have done me a great honor I can never repay" or that's as best as American English can get to expressing the feeling. It is a deep intense gratitude that someone above you in station had done something so kind, you will spend years trying to repay them. This is why foreigners get criticized as "saying arigatou too much, it loses meaning" because to us, thank you is something you say every time someone does something for you, and if you learn Japanese, you're taught that "arigatou" is thank you. But really, they use other words to say it, such as "sumimasen" which is "sorry, excuse me. Thank you for the trouble" which is why they use it when passing by you, getting your attention, or if they drop something and you return the item. 3 very different uses but all expressing the same thing of "I'm interrupting you, so I apologize, but I'm grateful for you" and then the simpler one is "sankyuu" which is a Japanese-ified pronunciation of "thank you" lol (than = san, k you = kyuu) Japanese in general is much more expressive and feelings based, so they have a million words for feelings Americans can't even articulate because it doesn't exist in our vocabulary. To us, snow is snow. To them, there is pure white snow, fluffy snow, snow that melts on contact, firm snow, a blanket of snow, and so on. Or expressions like when they go to eat "itadakimasu" we don't have a translation for, so on anime, they'll say "dig in" or "let's eat" or "thanks for the food" but what it really means is that appreciation for a meal after a time of famine, the deep gratitude you feel to the Gods/God to even be able to eat because historically, Japan was a very poor country where its difficult to grow a lot of foods, they faced a lot of draughts and famine and that's why they were a conquering nation, they HAD to invade other cultures for survival. War is costly, but the best booster for the winning economy. Ok I got way too excited lol but you get the idea 😂 this is why I love language, so I totally get your sentiments over the baka baka baka thing
