I'm going to say that they used dyed water instead of real milk. Not just the cost but the SMELL. Specifically I recall from Bosstone's Impression That I Get video, they lowered the band members into vats of milk and played it in reverse to make them appear. Well, one of the members HAD dreadlocks but soaking them in the milk gave them a brand new level of funk that he had to shave them off.
