The Nextlander Podcast 191: Pillows of Eternity

There might be an Xbox handheld launching this year (?!), plus the actual next Xbox in 2027, and we get together to talk all about that, along with the fairly unhinged new Death Stranding 2 trailer, WWE 2K25, Deliver at All Costs, returning to PUBG in 2025, top-tier comedy sketches, lighting your sardines on fire, and a bunch of other stuff.

Wasn't 100% sure where to put this, but since Vinny postulated PC streaming to an Xbox client I thought I'd point out that Xbox already supports the best version of Moonlight client, including lowest latency 120fps HDR HEVC. I used to use my Nvidia Shield but the Series X is superior now for moonlight.

Could it be Lego football as in 'soccer'? Not American Football 🤔

Alex - Dr. Steven Gold in the Paramus area is a fantastic ENT. I've gone to him for years for sinus issues, tinnitus, etc. He's great.

After having a baby, the vast majority of my game time is on commutes on trains. The Switch and Steam Deck are the only reasons why I can play games anymore. The Steam Deck is also the only PC I have that can play games decently at all.

The Memory Card

I've finally finished Avowed last week, it only took a leisurely 100 hours. :) Not to worry, you'll have your choice of spellcaster team-mates. There are 4 big, separate areas / chapters for the free roam, fast travel part of the game, followed by a point-of-no-return ending of not insignificant size. You get the customary warning before entering that part. Choices matter, and are paid off satisfactorily. Although some are, yes, classic static narrated ending slides. By the end, I was left with no unanswered questions, unsolved mysteries — quite unlike Baldur's Gate 3, for example. Items are simple: past the first few hours, only unique items really matter. Unique items are only found at handcrafted predetermined locations, and always drop at the level tier of your own highest weapon or body armor, respectively. Thus it's worth blowing all your money & precious resources into keeping one weapon and one armor at the highest level tier you could afford, as early as possible, to make sure any future Unique pickups already start there. You can game the system by reloading a save game before you opened a treasure chest. Come back with upgraded equipment, and it will spawn a higher level version instead. (Only reaching the base Common - Fine - Exceptional - Superb - Legandary level counts, the mid-tier +1-+3 intermediate upgrades don't.) Early on, equipment sells for very little, and the gold you find plus quest rewards are quite sufficient to buy anything in the shops you fancy. Dismantling the surplus items for resources is worth it until then. Around the time you start getting Exceptional tier drops (of basic items) it's worth considering selling your trash loot instead. Every shopkeep buys for the same amount, and have infinite money. Simple! Near the end, there are items on sale for over 80,000 gold apiece. I've never had the need to dismantle or sell any of my Unique equipment. I'm only a regular Game Pass PC user thus I have no experience with the bonus armor and such. I most envy you rich people with deluxe editions being able to pick alternate outfits for the companions. We have none but their default outfits. The god totem stuff you have to find each "base" before you can start putting it together in your camp, and activating the bonuses. The formula of everything will be super familiar by the end. All areas follow the exact same idea, down to the exact amounts. Same amount of god totem parts, 5 bounties, 3 treasure maps, 1 starmetal piece, 1 strangled adra, 1 lost cartographer, always the same amount of X to reach higher upgrade tiers, etc.

I’m the handheld lounger Brad described. I game 100% handheld on Switch or Steam Deck, either locally on the Steam Deck or remote play from PS5/PC. Handheld PCs are my favorite thing in tech in a long time.
