The Nextlander Watchcast Episode 113: Cutthroat Island (1995)

It's time again for our now-annual Turkey Month, and we're kicking off a November's worth of big budget turkeys with Cutthroat Island, the pirate movie that plundered Carolco of their last remaining doubloons, and sent Geena Davis' career as a swashbuckler off the side of a boat.

Comments

The thing to me that puts Geena Davis' and Mathew Modine miscast into such sharp scrutiny is how comparatively mindboggling great Keira Knightly and Johhny Depp's casting was in Pirates of the Caribbean.

On a side note, Michael Douglas did Romancing the Store and Jewel of the Nile where he was very much cast as the action hero. I'm not saying they were particularly good movies either. But better than Cutthroat Island!

Stephen Beattie

The score by John Debney is the best pirate score!

Jon Adams

I loved this movie so much when it came out, but I was like 8. I watched the shit outta that tape. Maybe I won't revisit. Haha
