Comments

As somebody else already said, a Satoshi Kon month (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Paprika, and Tokyo Godfathers) would be great. I also like the movies of Mamoru Hosoda. Summer Wars would have been a good choice for that video game themed month, but I also like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Wolf Children, and Belle. I feel like there’s enough to do a Satoshi Kon month, but a general non-Ghibli month, like Perfect Blue, Summer Wars, Your Name, A Silent Voice, would be fun. I can’t remember when this came up, but Alex also said the word Evangelion recently, so there’s also Evangelion + End of Eva + the Rebuild series.

I think you said suggestions are welcome- For Cohens Hail, Caesar! is rough. Some additional suggestions: Barton Fink, Blood Simple, Man Who Wasn't There, Oh Brother!

Chris Woodward

For docs, I think you really should consider at least one Errol Morris- maybe Thin Blue Line or Gates of Heaven. Mr. Death is a ride but maybe not a recomendation.

Chris Woodward

For remakes- consider "Made Abroad"/ American Remakes: Let me In/Let the Right One In, Funny Games, The Vanishing, La Femme Nakita/Nakita

Chris Woodward

More "This is the same script" films that come to mind. The Prestige and The Illusionist. Also, Red Planet and Mission to Mars.

Matt Smith

Couple of suggestions: music movies - The Dirt, A Mighty Wind Remakes - Road House

Jason Bush

Under Siege 2 is alright! But Segal is also a piece of shit.

Steve Francis

Not an endorsement but White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen (both 2013) are another pair of those oddly similar movies released at the same time.

Rory Donagh O'Breasail

Satoshi Kon made 4 movies! You forgot Paprika! They're all good, and you should watch them all - you can literally do a Satoshi Kon Month and it would SLAP

Ben

More music movies: The Last Waltz (The Band’s final concert, directed by Scorsese) Song Street (same director as Once. Irish teenagers in the 80s start a band. Great music, beautiful film)

I have heard the 8-4 guys say multiple times that Ghibli is pronounced "jibbly." No explanation was offered, though.

I have that new Second Sight edition of Blair Witch Project, and it is really cool. They have the 35mm version as well as the intended version from the filmmakers, so you can switch between them and really see the difference. Especially with the Hi-8 footage.

Paul Dronet

Plenty of exciting options! If y'all aren't already movie buffs, it's a great time to be one! I'm just hoping we don't spend too much time in Star Trek TV land. It's a slap in the face to movie buffs! /s

Zooclaw

It's perhaps telling how rotten my brain is when I cheered when Alex mentioned Ballistic: Ecks Vs Sever. Hopefully we'll see that during next year.

Valli

Oh man, you guys really gotta see The French Connection....also, Pig is really excellent and I don't know it gets the attention it deserves.

Thom Konan

I am flipping the F out about the watch list movies coming up. Oh man
