May Release First Preview - The Sisters of Saint Helena!

Hope you've had a lovely Easter holidays. The weekend is almost here and what a better way to start it that taking a look at the first preview of the upcoming May 2022 Release, the Sisters of Saint Helena awesome warband. 👏🏻☀️

This May 2022 Release is going to be huge, with at least 21 miniatures! The Sisterhood will be composed of:

• 1x Saint Helena's Chosen: a hero divinity character
• 1x Mother Superior: a hero character
• 3x Sisters Superior: hero characters
• 7x Sisters of Saint Helena: heavy armoured sisters with hammers and steel whips
• 4x Crimsons of Saint Helena: heavy armoured sisters with crossbows and bows
• 5x Young Sisters: light armoured sisters with maces, flails and daggers

👉🏻 About the Sisterhood:

"The Sisters of Saint Helena is the most powerful female sisterhood in the entire Empire of Sun. The power of the sisterhood grows day after day and they are now more stronger than ever. 

The sisterhood is divided into an iron hierarchy where the Mother Superior dictate the political future and rule over the faith of the Sisters. The Sisters Superiors are the leaders of the different squads of Sisters of Saint Helena, who lead them in battle and are reponsible for the holy path of the Sisters. 

When the young ladies decide to join the sisterhood, they become Young Sisters. They carry mostly robes and some armour to protect them on battle, handling maces, flails and daggers. When their training is completed, they become Sisters of Saint Helena, the main armoured body of the sisterhood. The Sisters carry big armours and a rosary as a reminder of their holy path. They use different hammers and steel whips blessed with holy water. If a Sister stands out for her skills and expertise with weapons, she can become a Crimson of Saint Helena, carrying holy crossbows to take down their enemies without losing purity by spilled blood.

The sisterhood is always recruiting, searching tiressly for a signal of the Second Coming of Saint Helena, who will take the body of a sister to become their paladin, the Chosen one."  

👉🏻 About the references:

In order to create this release, we wanted to avoid the classic nun style with nun robes and go for a more armoured approach in general, to create strong and powerful female characters. To accomplish that objective, we have been using a lot of references from Joan of Arc: paintings, sculptures and many other medieval artwork we have found on Internet. HERE you can see some of those references.

As they are a sisterhood, we wanted to generate some kind of homogeneity between the different miniatures and between ranges, like the rosary or the shoulder pads. The main difference between the different units within the sisterhood will be the amount, position and length of the cloths. The Sisters and Crimsons will carry long clothes with a predominancy of the heavy armour, while the Young Sisters will carry mostly short clothes with light armour, as you can see in the references. 

In the preview images you can see the seven (7) Sisters of Saint Helena, the main armoured body of the sisterhood. All the miniatures will come with modular heads and hands/weapons. The only miniature without modular hands will be the one holding the two-handed hammer. 🔨

We have also decided to create the shields using another approach. In the past we have been creating the shields and empty hands as separate bits. Now we will create the shield with a hand attached to it, giving them a better look. 

The Sisters of Saint Helena warband was the second option with more votes in the latest poll we did to decide the future releases in Highlands Miniatures.

And finally, after too many -toooo many- requests, we have decided to create a free alternative version of Merzhin Ambroaz, the High Wizard of Sunland, with a mask for some dark pourposes that some patrons had in mind, not us 😜 You can find it in the Drive Archive.
