I agree 100% with you - it is, now that you've pointed it out, very similar haha. Rome and Rhov are very similar in personality too indeed. Which could be why Jahla is struggling so hard right now. But eh, we'll have to see just how much struggling she's doing...

Thalidan

Sorry to comment again, but I had to point this out: “You didn’t judge me when we first met, you welcomed me... amused me.” - This is literally what could also be said about Rhov when Jahla first met *him*, but I’m guessing that she has forgotten that. Or... maybe she hasn’t, and in fact, meeting Rome has actually reminded her of how she met her mate? As much as I wish the latter was true, judging by what we’ve seen, so far, I’m betting it’s the former, but either way, it’s interesting. Of course, the situations where Jahla met Rhov and where she met Rome were obviously quite different, but they were also similar, in the way that both first reacted to her (think about it: Keirr was distrustful and even hostile toward Jahla where-as Rhov was not only friendly toward her, but he was immediately concerned about her and offered to help her; the Ravencrest Tribe was distrustful and hostile toward Jahla, all except Rome, who was friendly, concerned, and helpful toward her... adding in the fact that both of them amused her, and both were/are charming, arrogant flirts... not only were their first meetings with Jahla similar, but the characters of Rhov and Rome, themselves, seem similar, at least imo).

The thing is... shouldn’t *Jahla* want to search for her family, as well? It’s like she’s forgotten all about them since she’s started establishing Havenreach as a tribe, and it really bothers me. Especially if that’s what really ends up happening between her and Rhov, because if he does suggest that... she should agree with him, at least somewhat. I mean, the Asmundr pack is her family too; not to mention her own mother has disappeared, and she doesn’t even care...? I know she did back when she was in Origin Orion (it was her main reason for wanting to leave, after all), but ever since her talk with her grandmother... it’s like she doesn’t even think about it now. All she thinks about is Havenreach, leading it, and growing it as a tribe. Which, I can understand that, to a point; she’s trying to prevent a war, after all, and also trying to change the negative impression that almost all dogs have toward her species... but shouldn’t she also still worry about where the rest of her family is, and therefore, jump at any chance to possibly find them, especially if she would be searching with Rhov? I do realize that she can’t just abandon her tribe, but still... I also don’t think it’s right for her to just flat-out refuse or act uninterested about the idea of looking for her Asmundr family, especially since she seemed so concerned about them, before.

A bit late commenting, but very interesting that their dialogue mirrors several conversations between Roamer and Rogio -- early on their journey back to MT, Roamer tells Rogio, "I'm glad you're here," in a way that read to me as sort of wistful, much like Jahla here. Later, when they're about to separate so Roamer can go say bye to Ferah and Kargo, Rogio says, "When I'm with you, I get a sense of safety and freedom like I've never known," which feels reminiscent to me of what Jahla is saying when she's talking about all that Rome has done for her. Idk, maybe I'm reading too much into it/it was unintentional, but it's an interesting parallel nevertheless. x) I wonder what it means, if anything.

bitterbasil

Jahla and Rhov had clicked on they're own way, both have been rejected by others from a very young age, they both are curious, Rhov even helped her find Niita. They fell in love on the journey not at first sight when Jahla knocked him off mistaking him for Kainan. Rome is more like a good friend for Jahla, she has feelings for Rhov, that's why she asked Ronja about him at Tingent, she misses him. When they last seen each other they had a fight but they never broke up. It's normal for relationships to have fights. These are my thoughts about the hole thing.

Caro

He did?!! That was the first thing that came out of his mouth before he was accepted into the guild. He lied to the Viscountess and then let Feaf know after Axi left to her own tribe after she let Rhonda go to Shiverfall with her.

I'll be honest, I'm not 100% sure where I stand in all this as a whole. But I will say that if for some reason, Jahla does find herself falling for Rome, it wouldn't be unrealistic. This stuff happens all the time. I am one, who is pretty sure that Rome may have had a tiny spark of feelings, its pretty cut and dry obvious due to his expression on his face in the last panel - He looks hurt by the news. I mean think about it - I'm not sure how long they've been hanging out - Like how long its ben since he helped free her from his old tribe. But it'd be pretty weird for a female with a mate to be on her own with him gone (For most people) - So I'm sure he assumed she likely didn't since he wasn't around and it took her this long to mention him (Rhov) - But anyways. With all that said, I'm glad she finally did say something - I say better late than never, but sometimes with stuff like this, timing is everything. People don't like to feel lead on, and I'm pretty sure Rome is gonna feel that way but I don't know either. I never really was a fan of Rhov and Jahla to begin with, but that's just me. I always felt that their partnership was a bit of puppylove - like it just didn't flow like Rome and Jahla flows, but again that's just me and I'm just a reader ahaha. I'm okay with whatever happens either way I just want Jahla to have her happily ever after cuz she deserves it. But I will say - a part of me feels there's gonna be a "But..." in the next page. Cuz look at their breaths in the 6th panel....shapes a heart... I mean I dunno I could very well be reading WAY too far into this but at the same time, I feel like that's intentional XD I will admit, I'd be happy to see Feaf and Rhov and Jahla and Rome get together, they seem better fit for the others, but again....just me.

Thalidan

I hope Rhov tells his feline friend the same thing before any other decisions are made

BrushYourTeeth

This. If Jahla ends up with Rome then I hope it's after she and Rhov have met, talked things out and realized that it doesn't work anymore. And not because one of them cheating on the other. Even though I still believe their whole storylines lead them to work on the exact issues that made them clash before everyone got separated. Would love to see them work things out and stay together because we haven't seen much of that so far. I see so much potential in them. Imagine what a strong pair they'd become with everything they've learned and experienced.

Yami

I am one of the ones who hopes there is a "...but" following this. I loved Jahla and Rhov in Asmundr, but I can see how that now they have grown up and been tested maybe that chapter is ending and nother is opening. Rome and Jahla have good chemistry. It's hard not to like! If Rhov and Jahla work out I am totally happy with that but I'd be equally supportive of Jahla and Rome.

Retroleem

Finally, but I swear there better not be a ‘but’ following that... It would be nice to have at least one ship actually stay stable and come out alright without one of the involved parties flaking and betraying the feelings of the other.

Kaikree

I’m very happy she’s being honest with him. Knowing her character she knows what she needs to do even though it’s hard and always wants to be real, genuine, and honest.

HandyVixen

I'm not sure if Jahla and Rhov are even compatible at this point. Her faith in the gods is still as strong as ever, and Rhov is still a skeptic. Rome's faith in Jahla is so akin to Jahla's kind of faith. She and Rhov are going to need to be able to understand each other's point of views more in order to be able to work it out together. For all that it's worth, I hope they can, they were my favorite pair, but they're growing into their own ways. Can't count how many people I used to be close friends with and over time, as we grew, we drifted apart as we discorvered more of who we were. With them drifting out of my life, it opened up room for me to meet new people who were better company for me, and allowed me to discover more of who I am, embrace it, and cherish it without fear of judgement. Jahla and Rhov are on a journey that could very well pull them apart for some time yet.

Foxy

I'm a Rhov Jahla shipper but you aren't wrong, this is chemistry lol. I still ship them because they have both grown so much and i feel like a lot of their journey have led them to see each others world more clearly, and if they were to get the chance to reunite they would be SO much better. The pup love they had isn't diminished, but along the way, they've experienced grown up challenges that have made them better for each other

JackalHackal

As someone who has been given clear signs before and still didn't make any connections, sometimes the doubt is also too strong to realize until later :') I fully agree that Jahla could have been avoiding assumptions and wasn't sure the signs she thought she was seeing, were truly signs at all.

Farvardin

*sigh* Not even gonna say anything because there are already several comments that are making me feel argumentative, and for everyone’s sake, I’m just gonna stay out of it. I WILL say, however, that as someone who has actually always liked Rhov and Jahla together (I know, I’m definitely in the minority now), I’m really getting the feeling that I’m not gonna like the next page.

CorruptAngel

I'm glad that she finally told him. I wish in the beginning she did though but better late than never I guess. I'm still meh on the ship. Rome looks sad but I'm honestly hoping he would say that even though she was a blast to be around with and that this has been the most fun he had ever since coming to this planet he never quite had any feelings for her. I'm just not someone who believes two people like each other just because they're bonding super well. Harmless crack ships are fun but the two haven't quite known each other as long as Rhov and Jahla have. I think it's been so long a lot of us had forgotten the 3 months those two travel together and that Rhov was willing to leave his family behind just for her. Yeah, at first she was an excuse for him to go on an adventure but the two grown together so much and he truly did want to help find Niita since she was important to his father and the pack and was also Jahla's aunt. Rhov was even willing to put his feeling aside so that she could be with her brothers and Father but in the end, she chose him and her family. And yes, relationships fade like Kargo and Roamer and now Rogio and Roamer feel like it's reaching its end but sometimes I think back on Rhov and Jahla relationship and remember how much they did for the other. But who knows...maybe the end game is Jahla x Rome. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If it is, then I at least hope they take their relationship slow once Rhov and Jahla discuss things and if they want to break up cause theM being separated from each other could either make their relationship stronger or break it.

The emotions and the body language and the looks. I don’t think this is a shut down. I think this is a “....but” situation. Because honestly, these two make sense to me. I never fully shipped Rhov and Jahla idk why I just didn’t FEEL it. But here, my goodness do I ever feel it for these two. It happened over time and wasn’t just young pup stuff. In reality this shit happens, and I love how it’s displayed in this comic. I’m not gonna lie, I want this to happen. Sorry to the Rhov x Jahla shippers but man, THIS IS CHEMISTRY

Aub

Interesting. I was getting the vibe that Rome would be into males.

Ashley Edwards

Idk, I've tried to tell guys ahead of time before things go too far and they always get offended like it was presumptious of me to even begin to think they liked me at all, and when I wait for the "right time", they wish they knew ahead of time. Finding the right timing is literally impossible. It's up to them to be responsible for their own reaction.

Foxy

For those who dont like how long it took her to tell Rome, love is complicated. And nothing ever happens at the right time. Its always a learning experience, and mistakes are made. If you dont expect to get a little hurt sometimes like Rome is, then you are being too idealistic for someone as inexperienced as Jahla. You get better at it over time. As long as your improving, first time mistakes are just that. Inexperience at a difficult game called love.

Lilette Lacaden

I think he already knew, had a gut feeling something was up.

Lilette Lacaden

I feel here for Rome, he may feel he was lead on unintentional or not. If she realized he was trying to win her heart she should have brought Rhov up before now.

SleepyFernweh

While I am glad she told him finally, I feel like it is terribly late. That has to hurt Rome so much, keeping it from him for so long and giving him possibly hope. I am hoping Rhov and Jahla wait to talk things out before making any big choices on the directions they take. I also think it'd be neat to see them possibly rekindle (unlikely as it is) because seeing an established relationship that is able to overcome a huge obstacle and come out stronger than before would be absolutely wonderful.

Comet

So I haven't ever been a RomexJahla shipper because Jahla and Rhov feel endgame to me.. but honestly I am really liking where Rome and Jahla have been going. Their connection feels deeper then JahlaxRhov ever was. I also feel FeafxRhov have also gotten super close and could see a great potential there as well. I think when Jahla and Rhov do finally meet again they will be happy and excited- until Rhov tries to convince her they *have* to go find their family.. pushing for her to abandon her pack. In good Rhov fashion he of course won't think before speaking and say something hot headed. Feaf will calm him down and Rome will calm her down. In the end she won't leave and I think that will end up being a breaking point with them to at least take some time exploring other options. I don't really see Rhov suddenly leaving the guild to become Havenreach's Jarl and abandoning the search for his family- but there is still a long time between now and when the Guild gets back to Solar Stag to end their duties for the season so who knows. Maybe Rhov will wise up once he learns *where* Jahla is from Ronja.

Mew Wolf

I would to see that, it would be interesting to explore a poly relationship.

Candice

Okay, so call me crazy, but wild idea: Jahla x Rome x Rhov in a poly relationship 🥺 I don't even know why the thought just hit me, but I can genuinely see the possibility of all three fitting together like a puzzle. I'm now wondering if Rome could almost be what Rhov and Jahla are subconsciously missing? He could be the bridge that encourages them to communicate better when they butt heads over conflicting values, and how they sometimes stubbornly insist their own feelings are right and their partner is wrong. I get the sense that he's someone who figures out ways to compromise and assure others that what they feel is valid, but could also equally challenge Jahla and Rome to talk out why they're disagreeing, and/or figure out what the root of an issue is rather than burying the lede. Rhov and Jahla might equally be able to teach Rome how to open up in a way he can't do with others...or perhaps taught himself not to, with how cutthroat this world is. They could support him and let him be properly vulnerable. I keep thinking we're picking up on implications that he's not as 'all right' as he seems on the surface. Thus far, he mostly appears to be concerned about Jahla and how to support her while not worrying about his own emotional wellbeing. But she and Rhov could coax him into revealing his own potential trauma that led up to when he met Jahla and how to properly process what he went through. I feel he has some past bad experiences (notably his history with his previous pack, whose name escaped me rn), which wouldn't be a surprise, because this world is not kind to those with gentle hearts. He outwardly comes off as someone who wears his heart, when there's almost undoubtedly something deeper there. Jahla appears to be showing him how to be more 'himself,' I guess, but he seems guarded, too? I'm not sure if that makes sense. I just get the notion that he's more solemn with her while still feeling he has to be cheerful and supportive for everyone else rather than recognizing he needs to take a breather for himself, too. Or perhaps I'm just imagining it. For Rhov, he'd also be someone Rome reveals his more serious emotional state to as well -- the part of him he doesn't have to mask with humor and (hilarious) quips. Similar to Rome's admiration for Jahla, I can almost see Rhov here in her place during her interactions with Rome, and how well he and Rhov could be together, just like Jahla is with Rhov and Rome do. I DEFINITELY wasn't a Rome and Jahla shipper before, but something about them and Rhov all being together in a poly ship clicks for me.

Paradigox

My head completes her sentence like „...but I‘m falling for you too and I don‘t know how to deal with it. That‘s why I have been avoiding you.“

lynxir

Best to come out and tell him before anything complicated starts to happen. Sorry to dash your hopes, Rome.

Spiritstrike

Oh dear, I feel for Rome, you can see the hurt and disappointment in his face, I really wish Jahla had been up front from the beginning. X

Candice

Rhov is part of the Guild yes, Romé isn't.

Larthan

I was right??? Or half right! She's finally gonna open up on her feelings. ^_^
