I'm only speaking for Rogio's case here and from personal experience, depression works in various ways and can be different in each individual.

One can say a lot about Rogio, tell him to suck it up, quit it and stop bothering and exhausting everyone else with his problems. That's exactly the things a depressed person may say to themselves.

To not open up because it bothers people.

Throw Rogio out of his home and relationship and let him figure it out alone, when feeling already alone is the problem.

This arc has dragged on for several pages now but that's the point, depression drags on, it's exhausting for everyone involved, and in this case including the reader and writer.

It can't be fixed in a day, a solution can't be thrown at the person and have the problem sorted immediately. They need to reach that point themselves, they need to realize that they need to open up and allow others in to help them. This takes time.

———

No one is excusing his behavior btw. They just don’t punish him for being in the situation he has no control over. Rogio himself has never excused what he has done, obvious in the scene where he took the beating from Kargo because he felt he deserved it.

AHHH omg I don't likw Rogios behavior and he hasn't been very kind towards Roamer lol. But I think it's good Roamer let's him know that he's there and he loves him. 💕 I do think Rogios need his space

I agree uvu

My thoughts for what's worth... Rogios mental state doesn't excuse how he treated Roamer. Is Roamer allowed to feel bad about it? Sure! He has every right to feel like that. His feeling matter as well. But does that mean Rogio is a horrible person because he didn't/couldn't tell him sooner? No. Of course not. He's got a lot to carry and I understand that it's especially hard to open up to someone about it. Both of their situations and how they feel about it make sense and are reasonable, as frustrating as it is for us readers. Rogio leaving to either find himself or realize he needs his loved one's help to heal is a good thing. And I'm glad he at least opened up to Roamer enough for him to get a bit of peace and knowing what stands between them atm. The only thing I don't see an excuse for (personally) is that Rogio, again, wanted to leave without telling anyone. You just don't do that to the people you care about. You don't have to explain everything but like someone above wrote, at least tell them you're going through something and need to figure things out on your own. That's the least they deserve to know.

I’m over here like, “No! Please, don’t go.” 😭😭😭

I am Rogio. Seeing some of these comments hurts because they're reinforcing how an individual in Rogio and I's situation feels. At the end of 2018, I left an extremely toxic, narcissistic marriage (think Ranach). I was mentually and s*xually abused for 8 years and it completely rewired my entire brain functions. My short term memory became shot (because of endless gaslighting, you begin to doubt your own reality). I was taken advantage of, I was made to believe I was always the problem even though i'm an insanely caring person, and everything was always my fault. Fast forward to the end of 2019, I began to date my best friend, who has been more than amazingly loving and wonderful to me (think Roamer). He has had patience with my triggers, such as something as small as him getting frustrated with traffic on the road would send me into a 'shutdown' type state, and I was always on edge thinking he would eventually turn around and transform into a narcissistic, evil nightmare of a man I would be trapped with for another decade of my life. After a while, I began to relax around him and grew to trust, but then I became pregnant. We were excited for the future, but 3 months later, I lost the pregnancy. 3 weeks after I lost the pregnancy, my 3 year old cat died very suddenly of lung cancer. Then I lost my job due to Covid. While all this is going on, I'm still having to pay retainer fees to a lawyer for a divorce that has been going on for 2 in a half years (to this day in fact). By mid 2020 I shut down completely. I wanted nothing to do with my boyfriend. I shut him out, I ignored him, I wanted him to leave me. I felt SO guilty that he moved across the country to be with someone as broken as me. I wanted to run, but had nowhere to go due to being unemployed. I felt trapped and I felt like I was using him, and all he wanted to do was love me even though I was unbearable to be around. He never gave up on me, but like Roamer, gave me the space I desperately needed to get through the darkest pits of my depression and figure out what I really wanted in life. What my purpose was. Now, we're buying a house together and our future is looking bright. I connect with Rogio on such a personal level and I understand this situation SO well. For me, I NEEDED the space and I needed a break from the relationship to focus on MYSELF and my demons. I hurt my boyfriend like Rogio is hurting Roamer right now, but in the end it was a hurt worth hurting for.

Voice of experience here similar to Rogio - 2 and half years ago I was thrust into a life or death situation; a situation that still haunts me to this day - and every year it gets the chance to relive itself over and over. Its not just me though its everyone in my house, and pretty much 90% of the population in my area. We stayed in our home instead of leaving during a BAD hurricane (Category 5 - was a historical event) We stayed in our home while our house got destroyed around us, it was indeed pretty frightening, we thought at any moment we could very well die (All of us, myself my husband and our son) It dragged on for hours too it was something I would never EVER wish on anyone. But its left a scar on me that will last a lifetime but again, since most in my town have the same issues I'm not alone in it, but it still sucks very badly. The wind blows a little hard and I'm freaking out now - most people in my town can't even handle a regular thunderstorm now and where I live we have our share of them. Either way - I definitely know what PTSD Feels like, as well as depression and being in an abusive relationship though I've never had any issues blabbing my tea to others, probably helps that I'm an extrovert so I actually enjoy talking to people. But I do get where people handle things differently than others. But point being, I'm hoping that Roamer saying this to him will not detour him from leaving and being on his own to deal with himself and possibly get better. Sometimes excusing yourself from everyone to gather yourself (For how ever long it may take) is the best option for most people. Hope things start to level out for all these characters!

Spiritual attack will fill a person with anxiety like this. This kind of reminds me of wendigo sickness, the fear and anxiety people feel after seeing a wendigo consumes them until the day the digo actually kills them, but Roamer may be on to something with his idea that Rogio is not as cursed as he thinks, if at all. I would never suggest punishing Rogio, I didn't look through all the comments, but I disagree with anyone who thinks punishing Rogio is the answer. Dude's punishing himself plenty enough, he would welcome punishments, not learn from them. He doesn't need punishment, he needs the love and patience Roamer is showing here. I'm hurting WAY more for Roamer, but perhaps Roamer has what it takes to deal with Rogio. I know what it's like to be so depressed and full of anxiety that you tell yourself these sort of lies, "I'm better off not being here at all, for everyone's sake." "I deserve to be alone and unhappy", "I hate myself", "No one will ever love the trash I am." but at some point, I made the decision for myself to "get over it" (hated hearing other people say it to me, but I was ready to hear it from myself at a certain point), straddle up and get on with my life, and stop deluding myself. Best decision ever and still going strong. Some days are still hard, but I've learned how to be the person I would rather be. I like Rogio's character, don't like this side of him, but I really hope to see him make a hell of a come back. I have faith in him as well.

This is an incredibly difficult topic with many valid opinions, depicting it like that is brave. Big kudos for showing it as the exhausting, frustrating and many-faced illness it is. Now I don't know what depression is like fortuantely but this comic has helped me better understand it. I've become judgemental and frustrated with Rogio but looking at it like this, I have more compassion. For me that is great story writing!

Personally I still think Rogio should leave MT. Not forever and not to be alone but for now, it's doing him no good. Visiting Ferah would be a good move for him, he could be with someone who knows the old him he was before all of that happened to him, someone who went through horrible things too. Ferah was also betrayed horrible from her former lover, she also lost Kargo and had to suffer under Ranach. Also Ronja and Roamer would know where he is and that he's save, he even could leave with Ronja when she's visiting the tribe for Ferahs ritual, so he wouldn't be alone. I do think however he need to figure out who he is outside of a relationship. He jumped into that thing with Roamer just weeks after Ranach and he never knew who he was without that. No one is saying he should be all alone but sometimes you are just not ready to be in a relationship. They might love each other but sometimes...love is not enough. They still can support each other, however Rogio has to focus on himself now without worrying about a romantic relationship too.

Kuni

I'm still iffy, I get that Rogio has a terrible weight upon him. I understand he hurts a lot and is tormented by his past. I also get that Roamer wants to help and loves him and isolation is a bad answer. I've done it myself when I've gotten real low. But I feel it's also important to face some things, including yourself, alone at times. To take a step back, figure out where you are at and where your mind is at and just have time to reflect on yourself. Rogio has been running non stop with these demons, stressed to the limit on how others are effected to where he's hurt Roamer emotionally on accident trying to bottle everything up. Now that he's gotten it out, I still feel it'd be best to just let Rogio face himself for a bit and let him focus on himself and not stress about others too.

It's not an 'excuse' but it is a reason. As said many times above and by the author: people handle depression in various ways and depression itself effects people in different ways. For some of us the people we care about the /most/ are the most impossible for us to talk to. From what you've written above it all just comes over as 'if you can't get over it you don't deserve to be loved/supported'. As if the whole problem isn't that the person doesn't feel that way already hence, is avoiding and distancing themselves from that love and support.

Black Ice Gryphon

Depression still isn't an excuse to ignore your partner while you actively still talk to other people. He was straight up IGNORING Roamer. Why wasn't he ignoring Ronja? Why wasn't he wanting to be away from Ronja, Jahla, and Rome when they were talking together or whatever that night? You can be depressed in a relationship and still let your partner know what's going on or at least let them know you're going through something and you don't know how to deal with it. If it's a healthy relationship that should make absolutely neither person uncomfortable, resentful, or anything. It just...feels like Roamer is too love sick to call this out. It's not right for Rogio to have done any of what he did to Roamer. I personally feel like this relationship is bad because of one thing, Roamer is putting up with so much. Yes, depression is terrible, it drags you down and if you're not careful can drag other people down too but...you can still be supportive of someone with depression yet still call them out and express that the things they did and said hurt you and others around you. Depression is a normal thing that some people has gone through in their life, but that doesn't give them an excuse to act similar to how Rogio was acting towards Roamer.

As someone who suffers from MDD, I understand how Rogio feels. Many times in the past I've disappeared for months on end from my friends lives because I needed the space and time to get through some of the worst points. I'm going through a low point right now that I've been in since late November. The only reason why I haven't completely disappeared on my friends is because of my boyfriend. He's helped me so much with his unconditional love and the support he's given me. He never pushes me to talk about it but tells me how much I mean to him, and that no matter how bad I'm struggling he's there for me. I've learned a lot in the past year of being with him. I feel very conflicted about Rogio leaving and going out alone to deal with this. If there's anything I've desperately needed to learn is that I need the support system I have, and even when I feel alone need to remind myself I dont HAVE to be alone, I dont have to deal with it alone. This was a hard concept for me to grasp and it's taken a lot of time to learn and utilize it. I know that everyone deals with depression differently... I know that maybe space and time might be best for Rogio. I think it's very important however that Roamer is telling him that he will always love him, no matter what, and I hope that Rogio will learn he doesn't have to deal with this alone... no matter how scary it can be.

The B00ba

I'd say be mad at the way Rogios is going about trying to overcome his obstacles, but be upset with how he is hurting those around him, unintentionally. Idk, I feel really strongly about mental health.

AmnesiaMoons

I actually love how relatable this whole page is. From personal experience, depression and ptsd does some really screwed up shit. PTSD leaves a physical impact on your brain and rewires it. So to an extent, a very small and I mean SMALL portion actions, honestly reactions to something, someone with ptsd may be excused, BUT not completely. I'm talking about being in fight or flight, and this may be his reaction, which is understandable, but the way he is going about dealing with it is wrong. It's a toxic coping mechanism to run away. Love how that's portrayed. Mental health is never a reason to treat people poorly, which I don't think that's Rogios intention at all. Roamer isn't perfect either and has some growing to do, but they both have. I personally kept pushing people away, even sometimes going as far as disappearing for days on end with no word. There were times where I was aggressive. I've always apologized personally because I realized my behavior, thankfully, but that's not always the case. Was it right? Absolutely not, but eventually I grew from that. My boyfriend is a huge factor in helping me grow and heal, he kept loving me, which is what Roamer is doing. I never will understand why, but it was enough and honestly? I'm in a much better spot than I was about a year and a half ago. Rogios will be too, he needs to do this. Opening up is a bitch and I think Roamer realizes this, which is why he isn't pressuring him to stay.

AmnesiaMoons

Nobody is excusing Rogios behavior. You can still love someone, there's no limit.

I feel so bad for both of them here. It'll be good for Rogio to be on his own for a while, that way he can face his demons without the ever-present worry that he'll hurt those he cares about. I also believe that if he can learn to stand on his own, he can slowly learn to start talking about his issues with others. God knows how hard it is to talk about your problems, even with those you care about the most, especially when you have depression. Rogio just needs time to work through these issues before he can start to heal. It can't happen in a day, no matter what people seem to think.

This is the best anyone can do in this point in a relationship. Depression sucks, I know, I live with it every day and keep telling myself its better to be alive than to throw your life away and leave loved ones behind. But there are times when you need to go it alone and not hurt the ones you care about by needing your own space, time to think things through, time to accept that some things just can't be fixed in a day. To conquer your fears, you must face the inner demons of your own making.

Spiritstrike

I feel so bad for Roamer, he is clearly in love and struggling to understand where Rogio is coming from, but him accepting that Rogio needs some space and giving him that space is a very important step in their relationship at this point. I am going to cross my fingers that Rogio spending some time away will allow him to conquer his demons and then come back to Roamer and the rest of the tribe. As someone that has been depressed before, it's very easy for people to tell you to stop hiding and accept help, but sometimes going down your own path is the best way to recover from it.
