Hi all,
I'm not sure which bit of the headline is actually more exciting. Let's do the new issue first.
The rather fine art you see attached to this post is by Aud Koch, illustrating this week's story, "The Witch's Knives", by Margaret Ronald. A taste:
It began to rain flowers before she was even halfway down the path, heavy, wet petals that splatted rather than landed and left sticky red smears down her neck. Leah kept her head down and followed the train tracks, stumbling when the rotted ties gave way. I am here to rescue my husband, she rehearsed in her head, trying to ignore how the red sap trickled through her hair and how the railroad ties sank and splintered underfoot. I am here to break your curse.
We also have a poem by E. P. Beaumont, John Clute's latest Scores looking at books by Colson Whitehead and Alastair Reynolds, and our usual reviews, starting with Marina Berlin's take on the second season of Killjoys.
And then there's the fund drive ...
With just under twelve hours left, we've received notification from SF3 (the nonprofit that oversees Wiscon, among other things) that they are awarding a grant we submitted a little while ago—and thanks to their support, our planned Spanish SF special is now fully funded!
That means we now have a run at our final stretch goals: more translations, and interactive fiction. I'll be back in (pause to check site) 11 hours, 23 minutes, and 59 seconds with the final tally. Cross your fingers for us.
