Developer's Journal 2:9

Hey everybody.  I'm really loving the fact that I upgraded my graphics card because I'm currently working on a scene packed with characters.  Even though it's still super time consuming (especially since I've redone these renders multiple times and each scene takes like 10+ minutes just to load) it would be so much worse without the doubled VRAM I have over my last card.

I am presently working on the courtroom scene for Jamie's trial.  In this scene, the rape/incest victim that you heard about at the bar scene will testify in front of a jury about what her father did to her.  This is an important scene to do correctly for a couple of reasons.

First, I understand it will be difficult for many people to have to read about a rape in graphic detail.  Undoubtedly many players will themselves have been victims of sexual assault, or been close to someone else who has.  Consequently, I am trying to treat this topic with tremendous sensitivity.

Second, I am aware that there is a fetish in the adult gaming community for rape content.  This scene is not at all intended to be fetishized.  In fact if it is perceived that way by the player then it will have exactly the opposite effect that I intend and will not accomplish its purpose.

This is not to say that I have included this scene to send a message about how harmful sexual assault is--I haven't.  Nor is it there to create an isolated emotional impact that otherwise does not drive the plot forward.  The scene is simply important to the story I'm telling; that's why it's in there.  You won't understand it's full relevance for some time, but please trust me that I'm not just throwing in some random content about sexual violence for a cheap shock.

In the beginning of the scene, I've tried to emphasize the awkwardness the victim would feel.  A teenage girl comes to a public forum to describe to a group of strangers about how her father raped her.  I imagine it would be a terrifying experience.  Notice in the preview images that everyone is staring at her as she makes the long walk up to the witness stand.  I think if I were her I might feel every pair of eyes studying me.

PS-Any Daz artists who know of a loose fitting jeans asset for female characters, please let me know.  I finally ended up using a pair of man's jeans for the victim because I couldn't find anything that wasn't skin tight.
