Shelved By Genre Bonusode - Questions and Answers

UPDATE: Apologies, just had to delete and re-post the new episode to fix an encoding error that was introduced on export. Should be good now, sorry to reset your progress on the marathon ep.

We walk through dusty hallways grim and dim to learn about the the horrors of what lies beneath the surface of polite society. That's right, we answer the questions you submitted to our question and answer email. This episode is long as hell.

The 1993 scholastic book "Bruce Coville's Book of Monsters" contains the short story "Uncle Joshua and the Grooglemen" that stands out to me when I think about BotNS. It's not a strong story, but as an older millennial it was one of the first unreliable narrator scifi stories I encountered and it took an embarrassing number of re-reads for my child brain to apply the ending twist to how I envisioned the rest of the story

How about diving into the 80s comic series, The Incal? In terms of “what was defining sci-fi in the 80s”, the artwork of Jean Giraud in Metal Hurlant has to be near the top of the list, and Jodorowsky’s storytelling is a fun contrast to Wolfe— just as expansive and imaginary, but utterly unfocused and freewheeling. Thanks!
