New module : Moulinette Compendiums

I am extremely proud and excited to introduce to you a new sub-module of Moulinette: Moulinette Compendiums. While development is still in its early stages, this could potentially be the most promising evolution of Moulinette yet. I invite you to explore and discover it for yourself.

What is Moulinette Compendiums ?

Just like the other sub-modules, Moulinette Compendiums leverages Moulinette Core to facilitate content indexing, navigation, and search. As the name suggests, this module targets the content within compendium packs. With this module, you can navigate and search through all compendiums without the need to open them individually.

You want to test it ? Install it from the JSON url :

1. For GM but also players

Unlike the other modules, Moulinette Compendiums can also be used by players (this feature can be configured to be disabled). The module respects permissions and does not display compendiums that players do not have access to.

2. Automatic indexing

You don't need to index the content yourself. Moulinette Compendiums takes care of automatically indexing the content upon first use and will update the indexes when a module version changes.

3. One module to rule them all !

Moulinette Compendiums has the potential to replace most of the other modules (tiles, sounds, scenes) as it can display different types of asset and supports new content types such as articles, tables, and even adventures.

4. Optimized Details

Depending on the content type, Moulinette shows relevant information, unlike FVTT core behavior which only displays entry names and requires you to open the sheet to view more details. See examples below :

Items

Characters

Note : only for dnd5e. I'm looking for feedbacks and help to implement it for other popular systems.

Rollable Tables

Note : you can click one the dice to roll on that table without opening or importing it.

Scenes

Journal Articles

Next step : Moulinette Cloud

This initial version only allows indexing of locally installed content. If there is a clear interest in Moulinette Compendiums, I plan to expand its usage to all creator packs already available on Moulinette Cloud. The potential is much greater. This would, for instance, enable searches based on specific attributes.

Looking for your feedback !!

As mentioned, this initial version is still quite basic, and I rely on YOUR feedback and suggestions to make it better. The module is free to use. Feel free to use it with your players and recommend it to other game masters. Your feedback is important to us. Even if you don't like the module or prefer another one, please don't hesitate to share your thoughts in the comments.

Could there a way to select what compendiums are and are not indexed? I would love to do them all at once, but I have soooo many compendiums. Some are loaded all the time and some only loaded when I am building a scene. I have some from 3rd parties, and some I've made that organize 3rd party things into a categories for easier location. Etc, etc. Point is, trying to load and index all my compendiums at once will cripple my Foundry. Don't know if there's a good solution.

I am not able to test this at all currently, but it looks very promising and I'm excited to see how it evolves. Cheers! :)

Got the answer from Discord :-)

Abourious

I have installed it but I can't choose to activate it, I am getting a message to say I lack a dependency but my Moulinette Core is chosen.

Abourious

Oh, I forgot to do proper exception handling, indeed. Pathfinder 2 is my next goal though. Should be fixed soon.

Moulinette

Exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks !

indexing fails for pathfinder 2e latest system update, neat idea though Error: https://ibb.co/DDYxtbT Maybe you can skip every compendium that fails indexing so it will not prevent the indexing from finishing

Uhhh... Game changer. I can't wait to try it!!
