Share your "painful" experiences as DM/GM
Added 2024-04-28 17:19:22 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
I invite you to share in the comments your most "painful" experiences in game or session preparation. The goal is to help me identify opportunities for Moulinette to make it simpler.
Boring tasks
Repetitive tasks
Complex or tech-savvy tasks
...
Note: It doesn't necessarily need to be related to FoundryVTT. Moulinette offers certain capabilities through the browser, Moulinette Cloud, or even Obsidian.
Thx

I have tried the browser extension and obsidian. Of the two Obsidian seemed easier to use. When I first joined Moulinette I was able to take a very large amount of maps and assets from a provider there. I think it may have been from Tom Cartos but I am not sure. That was my first experience and I thought that was how it was supposed to function. I download material I want to use and add it to a pre planned adventure, or I can grab something and add it on the fly.

2024-05-24 04:35:14 +0000 UTCThank you for your feedback! Moulinette is indeed not a download manager and doesn't implement batch downloads unless the creator provides a bundle to be downloaded. Moulinette only implements a few integrations (mainly Foundry VTT, and Obsidian more recently). How do you use Moulinette with Fantasy Ground ? Do you download files from the website (Marketplace) directly or do you use the Moulinette Browser Extension?

2024-05-23 22:13:45 +0000 UTCI find it frustrating to find and download multiple files 1 at a time. I have yet to find a easy way to get 20 tokens/5 maps/5 tracks etc. I have asked in the past for a way to download multiple files where needed. I do not use foundry and do not want to use foundry. I am heavily invested in Fantasy Grounds, which is looking like I am throwing away money by paying for a higher tier Patreon Subscription for something that I can not get the functionality I was expecting. :(

2024-05-09 02:45:48 +0000 UTCUnless you can get people to actually commit to the schedules, I don't see how you can help me that much lol

2024-05-09 01:26:51 +0000 UTCMultiple places, most I use importer modules, this doesn't always works because I don't always find the things I need , especially if they are something official , but with alot of monsters I take an existing monster and change it into another monster

2024-04-29 23:42:41 +0000 UTCThanks! I have a few ideas on how to "re-implement" the soundboard. Working on it!

2024-04-29 23:41:39 +0000 UTCThank you for sharing this. Walling a map is something quite difficult to automate (AI could potentially help). Importing monsters is something I could improve. Do you take your monsters from a compendium or how do you proceed?
Moulinette
2024-04-29 23:39:38 +0000 UTCSo many things. Boring tasks: - walling a map - testing module updates to my world(s) - taking content backups - converting "tiles" into "things in a game": look, your fireball damaged the table Repetitive tasks: - importing monsters/items/text from PDFs - "compendium-ifying" old content in order to manage the size of my game - syncing existing content back to a shared compendium - finding good audio effects for the items / actions in my game (freesound.org into actual audio takes minutes per thing) Tech-savvy tasks: - finding macros that "do a thing" so that I can tweak that thing - getting really common effects from existing items/actors onto items/actors I currently have - organizing uploaded content in a rational fashion that matches the structure of my folders

2024-04-29 03:31:02 +0000 UTCSure thing. I dumped the directory to a text file. You can find it at https://online-clipboard.online/online-clipboard/ (code 7970) Or I can send it wherever you want. Other than those I use your Tabletop Audio integration.

2024-04-29 03:28:56 +0000 UTCDrag & drop to existing buttons is on my TODO list. You can expect it to be implemented soon. I agree that the soundboard is limited if you a large number of sounds and variants. If you could share a list of file names from your collections, it would give me a better idea on how to implement it.

2024-04-28 22:56:59 +0000 UTCThis is interesting. Moulinette could certainly help automate it if there is a way to group & identify token variants. Do you use locally indexed tokens or some available on Moulinette Cloud?

2024-04-28 22:50:18 +0000 UTC⬆️ This! I loooove immersive music & have an extensive library to choose from, but I haven’t found a simple way to setup my soundboard to make it readily accessible during games. I can’t always think of an icon that will reliably remind me what track it represents & the text is too large to read the keywords I think of. I also second the idea of a drag & drop feature!

2024-04-28 20:27:43 +0000 UTCI tend to make my maps interactive if there is the potential for something to happen or I use the monster do use it if the players don't. I.e "the bugbear crashes through the table as it charges you". I also map things in my map dangerous. Like a level causes a trap door to open or activates a secret door to a room of cultists who join the fight. For inspiration I recommend watching fantasy anime like "goblin slayer", "log horizon", "overlord" and many others.

2024-04-28 19:44:55 +0000 UTCSeconding this. FVTT's tile system is slow and cumbersome to set up. Having to make edits to a battlemap you didn't make yourself is often more work than I have time for.

2024-04-28 18:35:01 +0000 UTCI like to use furniture tokens which have multiple stages eg coomplete with items on, empty, broken and on fire. It's a pain in the arse creating using several files and several mods to make this happen. If moulinette could just drag and drop a tile that did all this in one that would be amazing. Same goes for monster tokens of different colours and weaponry. Eg a cultist token that when dragged had several options of melee, ranged, caster and colours. Not sure if these are possible with moulinette but they would be fantastic for DM's.

2024-04-28 18:27:00 +0000 UTCMy biggest issue as a DM is having a bunch of small ideas and not being able to connect them coherently into a full session. My biggest *technical* issue as a DM is that all this prep work and bells and whistles both makes the game feel railroady and also compels me to do a done of bells and whistles setup every single week, and I can't really just fart something out when the party zigs where I expected them to zag or when I'm just not feelin' it that week.

2024-04-28 18:17:41 +0000 UTCManaging the soundboard for me. Having 1-word descriptions or tiny icons is all well and good, until you need to sort them by 5 planes, 15 biomes, 3 or 4 types of weather... it quickly becomes a sea of buttons that I find myself reading descriptions on. Some way to categorize them would be helpful, as would buttons with smaller text so I can fit a second word in. Also setting up playlists within the soundboard. We need the ability to click and drag new sounds into existing buttons to add to the playlist. Adding them by drilling down through the system directory over and over gets tedious.

2024-04-28 17:51:09 +0000 UTCEspecially when you have a really big dungeon from a premade module , populating it is the most boring thing ever

2024-04-28 17:29:50 +0000 UTCRepetitive/boring tasks , for me walling a map, and importing monsters to set up the map is the most annoying
