Help me build a better search engine !
Added 2021-11-28 15:54:48 +0000 UTCSince the last poll, I have explored different options to improve the Moulinette search engine. I found an architecture and affordable technologies that would greatly improve the search, by allowing filtering on categories. However, with now over 1000 users, 100,000 assets (among 17 creators), I can no longer rely solely on my user experience as a GM.
I'm looking for volunteers who would like to participate by :
- Giving constructive feedback
- Asking relevant questions
- Suggesting filters (categories)
- Describing the process you use to build your scenes
- Testing early-releases
By participating, you will be able to influence the development so that it best meets your needs. You will also have access to early-versions (even before $5+ supporters). I created a new Discord channel (#suggestions-search-v2) specifically for discussing these topics.
Everyone is also welcome to comment this post. Let me know what do you think about this initiative!
The screenshot attached to this post is the very first prototype. The goal is to get inspiration from the search engines of online stores for which you can search and then filter results until you find the best fit.

Thanks! You mean separating tokens from tiles? Currently, tokens will show up as tiles. A few creators propose such assets.

Something which might be super useful for audio search is to encourage creators to embed tags or descriptions with some open standard (e.g. id3 for mp3 files) that can then be used to search or filter within moulinette.

At first, you'll be able to browse and search the entire collection but you'll still need to subscribe to the creators to get access to the assets. Eventually, I'll extend it to let people buy assets individually.

2021-11-28 21:19:00 +0000 UTCThe biggest problem I see with all this is the Patreon Wall. Everyone wants you to buy their cup of coffee but the problem is that I can't afford to subscribe to every patreon page. What foundry really needs in my opinion is a Moulinette platform that acts as a marketplace where you can go and search for anything you need but buy it as you go. That way I'm not just seeing or being able to buy what I support on patreon. This Patreon wall is very limiting and frustrating at the same time because I feel there are a lot of creators out there doing great stuff, but I can't support 20 $20 a mnth subscriptions so I'm very limited to like 2 or 3 creators.
