ScathingAtheist 226: Cockadoodle Don't Edition Extended

This week's bonus material gets a little more heartfelt than usual; but to make up for it, the first hour and three minutes lack empathy entirely.

Andrew popping in over the Eli bits legit was so funny I dropped my basket of eggs I was collecting this morning.

Noah, I just want to say that the shift from third person to first person in that essay was an amazing piece of writing & the whole thing was incredibly moving. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

I'm sitting painting seashells to sell to tourists down at my pitch. Just as the show was starting on my MP3 player a guy comes up and says "would you like to have this?" - he's offering a pocket sized New Testament. This is Britain. We don't see many of these folk, so I'm dumbfounded. All I can think to say, as the Diatribe kicks off in my ear, is "No thanks, I've got one. King James actually, better read than that one." He looked surprised and disappointed - hippy artists shuoldn't have bibles... He was lucky I hadn't heard the whole podcast yet...

Really getting tired of Eli's child rape 'joke'... it bothers my partner to the point that she's said that she liked the show (or perhaps 'tell' as there's no video?) better before he started seeing how far he could go with saying fucked-up things like that. Is it supposed to be some kind of shock jock parody?

THIS.

I loved this episode. Noah, even if you'd been playing nothing but static for the first hour it would have been worth the wait to get to your beautiful essay. Seriously, guy. Bravo.

You guys might enjoy this anecdote, related to today's diatribe. I'm a math professor at a small rural state school, and one day I was teaching an example related to probability involving rolling 3 dice. The first step was to calculate how many total possible results there were, which is 6 * 6 * 6 = 216. When I wrote this on the board, there was an audible gasp from a non-traditional student (a lady in her 50's) in the front row. She wanted me to erase what I had written. At first I was confused; I thought she was saying that I had made an error in the calculation. Then I realized that she was upset that I had written 666... well, not exactly... three 6's near each other in a horizontal arrangement (gasp!). I try to be respectful of my students, and religious discussion don't ever come up in math class, so I compromised and rewrote it as 6^3 = 216. I'm sure that I wasn't able to keep a derisive look off of my face, however.

And now I have something to slack off to on the last hour of my shift. Thanks!
