L.B. approached me with a trial balloon for the idea on December 18, showing me a rough draft before cleanup. He said he was proud of the piece, and I couldn't help but agree. As we talked, he explained that he was going to shop the article to his usual clients, to see if there were any bites.
At the time, I explained that I wasn't sure about how much we'd be able to pay, but I'd offer what we could.
About a week later, he brought the article up again, and we hashed out details and came to an agreement on December 21. (I won't disclose figures here, but I will gladly say it was a fair price, given my own freelancing experiences. I made up the shortfall out-of-pocket.)
We agreed that it'd be best if we published this after the Christmas holiday.
The invoice was signed and paid a day later, and we went through the usual rigors of the editing process before finally publishing on December 29.
